Why is the NRL talking to the government that likely loses in March, The opposition being for stadium funding is the key ones here

The real problem is that for a proper shared stadiums approach to work, the NSW government will need to invest a hell of a lot more money for new stadiums in better locations. It's fine for AFL in Melbourne because the clubs are ridiculously close to the two stadiums on the outskirts of the CBD. The equivalent would be if the NRL's Sydney teams remains Eastern Suburbs, South Sydney, Balmain, Annandale, Newtown, Glebe, Western Suburbs (Ashfield) and North Sydney. Not to mention the ease of public transport in Melbourne with train lines heading directly to these grounds without multiple changes.
The NSW government could just build a few new train lines e.g. Dee Why to SOP, Miranda to Parramatta and it would help sports fans and the rest of the population as well
Will likely cost more like $250 billion than $250 million though

I think last state election labor had a policy of diverting stadium funding to other areas

There you go. So no matter what the Govt agree to, it gets scrapped soon anyway
Not if the arlc gets a legally binding agreement the new government would have to honour it or face damages

looks like the nsw govt want to reneg and spend the money on areas that get more votes

this is a real test of vlandys leadership if he allows the nsw govt to walk all over him it’s a loss for the game

No such thing when it comes to Govt's, any new Govt coming in is not encumbered to the previous Govt's policies. We've seen some massive reversals in WA over the years, including Roe 8 H'way which cost somewhere between $40-100mill not to build!

This. New governments always change things.
QLD won't do stadium spend to host it, Why does NSW have to pay for Stadium's to host it

$800m is counting SFS
the sfs cost $800mill on its own. I thought there was another $800 mill still going to be spent? $300 committed for Penrith and $500 for other which could have been suburban grounds, new stadiums or accor roof if that got the nod? Its short sighted sticking lipstick on suburban pigs thats never going to keep them up to spec for next 20 years. Much better if they used that $500mill to build two new sydney stadiums (South West and South) for clubs to share. Manly, Newcastle and Win could be done at a later date.

That mob went to the last election on a platform of NOT re-building the SFS.
How did that play out for them? Parties change policies. Up to the nrl to be talking to labor now. But it’s better to get it all in writing before the election so it’s guaranteed

Bit of an out of the box idea but could the NRL use this as a bit if leverage with NSW govt to buy Commbank? We all know NRL needs to build a decent asset base and rather than buying pubs it would make more sense to invest in something that will benefit the game directly. Buy it, rename it Sydney NRL Stadium. Eels, Tigers and Bulldogs to call it home. Finals and tests etc to be played there. Along with WSW for summer and it could provide a good return not to mention the asset value on the books. The Govt could then use the funding to build another stadium for Manly or Sharks and Dragons if they ever saw sense. If AFL can buy Marvel for $200mill why couldn't NRL do same? In 2017 Marvel stadium turned a $5mill profit for AFL.

Shared stadiums will not work in Sydney. You're a fool if you think otherwise.
Hang on, dont we have three clubs currently sharing accor?
You'd be stupid to not want your club to be playing at WSS over Accor or some run down suburban ground.
There is literally no reason it wouldn't work if its a great venue and in the right location.
Many Clubs are not growing their fanbases and havent for decades. If the suburban strategy falls over then something needs to be done. Sydney is heading for a very big transition of haves and have nots. Seeing all the impressive corporate suites full and 28k people paying up to $90 for a seat at Commbank on Friday night I can only imagine the profit Eels made out of that game. That is what every NRL game should be like in Sydney.

Well what do you propose? It’s unreasonable to expect 5 or 6 stadiums to be built/refurbished. There are also other areas like Wollongong that might be wanting to be refurbushed
