If the state government were serious about the idea of developing a new city centre adjacent to the new western Sydney airport at Badgery’s creek, they’d be looking to develop a stadium precinct there, along with good public transport links both into the city and north-south to connect with Penrith and Campbelltown. Then entice the Panthers, Dogs and Tigers as tenants.
That’s at least 30yrs away from having everything in place ti take advantage of it. Pencil a stadium in for Bradbury city near the station that can be parkland or something in the meantime until the area is ready for a stadium.

sorry when did Newcastle have “a motza” spent on it?

Want to look up what was actually spent?

Between 2003-2011 the whole stadium had approx $50mil spent on it (and was estimated to cost another 10 to finish… which was never done). So yeah, 50 mil and we had an unfinished stadium under construction for 8 years, and then it was never finished.

Compare that to what is getting thrown around now.
And now the Southern screen doesn't even work.

You know the area better than me but 30 years seems a long time. When’s the airport and that link being completed?

All in all, there is an opportunity there for the NRL to build an asset base

Until they build the jobs, train line etc it’s not viable. All that will take 30yrs.

Airport is supposed to open 2026. Then businesses will start appearing, work on Bradbury may commence. It will all take a while.

The land the bulldogs own at Liverpool is probably more viable in any short term. Cause any rail link will only benefit that area.

How big is the land? How big could you build the stadium? How many tenants could you realistically have? I vaguely recall the Oasis stuff back in the day

they will eventually , Vlandys won't be at war with the new guys . He will get them to see the light

PVL will long gone before it is possible.

Every teams has had some sort of funding
Assuming Penrith goes ahead, 3 new stadiums that sides could use.

The new governments aim when in will be sort out the strikes, That is going to take money

The state has a lot of things on its plate and if it’s Labour that wins the next election they will be aiming at better pay/conditions for nurses (fair enough too considering what the health sector has been through with COVID) as well as teachers. That’s how Labour win elections as that is their core base. They also have the transport strikes that are going on atm which needs to be resolved.

Let’s be honest, football stadiums will be the last thing on their mind

Getting votes in marginal electorates will be in their minds though. Won't want to alienate voters too much.

Given the desperation of the incumbent party the fact they ditched the 3 stadium upgrades would suggest they don't see them as a vote winner of any magnitude. Labors already doubled down that they wont be spending any money on stadiums. Lets hope the bulldozers move in at Penrith before the election. NRL needs a plan D!

I can’t believe the Sharks are pushing to play at shark park over the new stadium if they finish top 2 , they will be playing the cowboys or storm if they do so it will be a home ground advantage either way. If they are content with 12k crowds for the biggest home game of the year then when they are broke again they shouldn’t receive any lifeline from the NRL
