Pfft trees are the best thing about a ground? That’s great for a quaint cricket oval

How old are you?! You told me once. Maybe you have little life experience. Lots of metal & concrete stadiums these days. Leichhardt has something which makes it stand out. Would be great feature even after redevelopment

Bulldogs setup is that the football club controls the leagues club. They get whatever money they need. So the grants vary depending on what they want to do.

That is the crux of it.

Those League clubs are flushed.
Boards have rich guys, With all the capital should they need it

I think when people say these football clubs aren’t making a profit. But then you have certain clubs like the bulldogs and roosters whose football clubs are not designed to make paper profits. It’s all about the leagues clubs generating money so the footy club can do what it wants. Some clubs like south’s, manly and the broncos need to make profits. Different clubs are setup differently. I do like the bulldogs and roosters versions. Parra and wests the leagues club controls the football club. Not the ideal situation.

Mark Bouris and Nick Politis will put in extra if the Roosters need it. Most clubs have extra resources but don't need it

I am old enough to know that necessity lends itself to progress and development of thought and practice, and that change is the only constant in life, regardless of what any one individual wants.

So with that in mind the best thing you could ask yourself is why there are lots of metal and concrete stadiums nowadays? Why are sports predominantly being played in full seater stadiums with roofs when they could be played at local ovals or unclosed stadiums? That might not be a romantic view but it is pragmatic view

Now Leichhardt Oval, NS Oval, Dolphin Oval, Shark Park etc do have heritage unquestionably but does that mean you should use them in the NRL if there is a necessity to improve crowd size, encourage new attendees and increase corporate sponsorship.

Yeah, won't cost that. Apia want to put 6k stand at Lambert park (along with indoor courts below) for 30 million
Bollox, we’ve spent $150millon on hbf park so far and it was no where near as big a dump as these places at its start point! Despite spending that it still needs another $100mill at least on it to get it near a commbank standard.
Basically your looking at around $80mill for a main stand $20mill for an uncovered end stand and easily $125 mill plus for a large main stand with signifcant corporate facilities. then throw in two big screens, modern day led lighting, electronic signage etc. you could throw $200mill at LO and it still wouldn’t be close to commbank.

Very much the same set up by the Roosters. The football club is in charge of the leagues club.

Yes also the Roosters are sponsored by those little, non-national organisations like Steggles, Red Rooster, Unibet, Budget, Castore... 🙄
You’d think catering to the big end of town the roosters would be up with the big clubs for sponsors and corporate sales yet they only brought in $6.9mill in 2020, well behind clubs in other cities.

Every $ a LC has to give an nrl club to bail it out because it isnt making enough money is a $ lost to community sport.
Other clubs have shown you don’t need a LC at all if you are run well and can build a decent size active fanbase and have a decent stadium that attracts corporate spend.

Apia putting up 6k seat stand for $30 including entire facility underground. Dolphins entire ground would've been less.

Lots of metal & concrete because developers charge more for it.

It's just the structure of how the club was setup. For some clubs the football club is not designed that way. AFL clubs who have pokies and the like have them under the footy club banner, while NRL clubs have them separate.

I think you overlook that the leagues club was setup to support the football club, so it's not a handout. It's about using the grant money to get as good a footy club and facilities as possible, and then anything else as needed from the leagues club.

This has been explained to PR on numerous occasions over quite a number of years now. He won’t budge on this particular hobbyhorse of his.

Don't forget the alliance which has formed.
Remember that PVL and Abdo were in a legal stoush with the NSWRL earlier this year, reason being: Dino was blocked from that board, Peponis and Politis resign because of the decision.
A little mafiosi group that Dino is part of, along with Dr. George, Uncle Nick and PVL.
Except Greeks aren’t mafia
