The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I don't know how correct the security report is, but I'd hate to have to get out of the place in an emergency. Too many bottlenecks and areas to set up secondary attacks for my liking.

Im guessing they have received updated security reports after recent attacks overseas so saw this as an opportunity ti get their way.

Absolutely.

Which is why I think they won't get anything more than a 40k seat stadium. It's the area that's difficult just as much as the stadium. Though I'd rather see 30k.

Imagine if they got their initial wish for a 65k seat stadium, add in a sold out swans match and you could have 120k people in a very tight area.

So the trust is basically using the deaths of people overseas as a political power play ..

Nice people at the trust

Give them $134m and say do your best

But it has to come out of the budget for the new bill oreilly and brewongle stands that they also want built.. at the scg

100% that is what they are doing, but that is not new in this country

The issue the trust are raising now is the SFS' inability to deal with a terrorist situation, if there is a terror attack or some other major emergency at the ground, the ground does not have the ability to move a large number of people out of the venue in a short space of time. The venue was built with inadequate entry and exit points to allow a large number of people to get out of the ground safely in an emergency situation.

The problem we have in combating this is they are actually correct in this assessment and with the empthasis being placed on terror at this point in time it is a very difficult argument to counter.

Isn't it the trust continuing to build shit in the precinct, further limiting space in the area?

How about they demolish SFS, the Roosters play at the SCG, and they rebuild ANZ property.

Oh yes, I can see it now, the Waratahs, Swans, Sydney FC and Roosters all trying to use the ground on the same weekend. No logistical problems there at all

Also as someone who has watched plenty of rugby league games at the SCG, the other reason I wouldn't want the Roosters or any other RL side playing out of the SCG is that when used for rugby league, the SCG is absolutely manure to view the actual game. You are a lot further away from the field, and you are on oblique angles to the game.

Close the SFS and move all games to ANZ

It's complicated, no real quick answer.

If they stick to the original proposal

- Parra is being built now to a 30k seat venue with the steepest gradient seats in Australia ( this is locked in) Should be finished in 2019.

- ANZ stadium should be next and reconfigured to a 72k permanent rectangle. This should start sometime in 2019.

- then whatever is left out of 1.6 billion will go to ANZ. Probably start sometime around 2022.

But,

They're reviewing it all because of a supposed blowout in the cost of ANZ stadium. Apparently the premier willl announce the new plan within the month.

My feeling is & she hinted at this last week, they'lll increase the stadium budget, which is currently 1.6 billion, to get them all done. I think Allianz will be knocked down.
Thanks for the update and fingers crossed!

Hah demolish the SFS because of a 'bottleneck' of a few hundred Tahs or Roosters fans getting out. Ive heard it all now. When I was unfortunate enough to live in Sydney it took 15 minutes just to get up an escalator at central station in rush hour, but a would-be terrorist wouldn't notice something like that I guess.

This is the reason the SCG trust is pushing

Yes. I understand where its coming from. Nothing from Alan Jones should ever surprise me .My guess a few weeks ago what the 'safety issue' at the SFS comprised was way off though. I thought they would at least fabricate that a roof was in danger of partial collapse.

It was always going to go down the terrorism route, it's a political grenade at the moment so it gives them their best chance of stealing the money from elsewhere. It is also very hard to argue as the worse part of the ground is the entries and exits. Its also a very difficult problem to fix, it just fell into the laps of the SCG trust at the wrong time.

How true.
Watching the Leichhart game on Sunday avo looked great. I look to see how it's vibe is. The crowd looked great. It is a strength to play at these venues A 10 to 15k crowd looks good. Also you are right on top of the action, you can smell it. It's a stadiums no where else in the world.
Upgrade the hill on 5 Sydney grounds, Belmore, Brookvale, Penrith etc with lightweight fabric structures.

Very affordable.

Most suburban grounds should be used sparingly, the nostalgic factor will soon drop away otherwise.

Its not a stadium and its replicated in most developing countries and fourth division sports around the world! If you want to keep crowds at 10-15k and corporate support to the local butcher and sign maker its a perfect way of stunting growth of revenue for clubs.
