Not the same

arlc receives the cash in hand it doesn’t own the stadia

clubs still pay large rent to use them and other codes benefit too

it’s much better for the govt they get assets they make their money off and also get the tourism from the grand final
or from the govts POV, pay just $10mill a year for 20 years, defer the upfront $300mill expenditure and not face any political backlash from the schools and hospitals brigade.

The NRl is highly unlikely to be able to sell 20 GF's for $300mill let alone $800million. Especially if NSW govt has a dummy spit and offers a knock down price for just a few of them.

And lets say they could sell 20 GF for $300mill, whats the NRl going to do?
Put a little bit each year to stadium upgrades for the next 20 years?
Borrow to build something on the back of the future revenue?
Keep all the money and screw the clubs and their stadiums problems?

I dont see how selling Gf's fixes Sydney's stadiums problems?
Over 30 years it would increase to way more than 20 million pa

between brisbane Perth Adelaide and Auckland nsw can get none if they don’t want to pay

after all they have the a league grand final sewn up

They could bid ten million but would probably not get it with the competition from Melbourne and Brisbane

Theyd get it every other year in reality even with other bidders. And if they said its a twenty year deal @ $10mill a year or we'll negotiate year on year and may not bid at all do you think the NRl would blink?
Would Brisbane be willing to buy 4 out of 5 GF's for next 20 years?
Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide might buy one every 5 years or so.
As a one off the GF is worth $15-20mill Id say. But as an annual event its unlikely to fetch more than $10mill.

The other thing the NRl could do would be say you can have the GF but all NRL games and events in Sydney Govt stadiums are rent free. That would be a major positive for clubs, encourage more clubs and events to use the best stadiums and be a real saving for the NRl come finals and for origin etc. Not sure what the cash value of it would be, anyone know what stadium rental is in Sydney?

If the nsw govt loses the grand final it will be a disaster for them

it will actually be good for the nrl and not just from a monetary viewpoint

Which makes my point, for occasional hosting $15mill is the tag. For hosting every year $10mill is the price tag range. The article doesnt make sense though. If Qlnd are offering $15mil a year for occasional hosting over 12 years how can they be offering $200mill?

If brisbane was offered the grand final for the next 30 exclusively they would jump all over it

where’s your faith in rugby league

every state govt and Auckland would love to host it

we’ve already got two excellent stadiums and a load of centre of excellences already funded with no commitment to host it in nsw they would be stupid not to take advantage of the situation they are in

a tiny state like tasmania just came up with 600 million plus for stadiums I’m sure nsw can afford it if they want

It is what people overlook here. NSW will match what the others do and end up in front

Not if it loses them money, governments aren't charities
