Why? AAMI is a better ground for a start and isn’t owned by the AFL
AAMI is locked out for the women's world cup, options were docklands, geelong or princes park

delay in the announcement was because docklands and geelong were both locked out for the AFLs floating fixture

unfortunately Victoria doesn't have another rectangular ground that could fit every ticketed member, but if we can actually get 30kish crowds it'll be a good compromise, 30k with the roof on should have a decent atmosphere

Just over 200k. 65k were sold to interstaters. Assume people went to multiple game so maybe 30k - 40k travelled.
We will soon get some clues as to what a GF is worth. Reckon the AFL GF will be at ACCOR is 2028.

You could throw in players and partners spending money there too. Similar numbers will be this week for NRL's

Wow they are getting 25 million pa

and an nrl grand final would probably have more tourists coming in if it’s not in Sydney

That is capped though.

52k capacity, Stadium members, Corporates players, Officals.

Lucky if 20k is there for the general public that limits what they will pay

So

it shows what state govts will pay for elite events

Granted the wasteland states aren’t as keen for league as afl but it’s a grand final

So did someone just say SA is paying $24m a year for garter round ?

Makes the below look pretty shit

The Government of Queensland paid approximately $2.1 million per year for the event to be held in the city in 2019 and 2020.

Victoria pays $30m for the F1, doesn't mean every event is going to get that.

That gets 300k in attendance and international tourist

$10-15m is likely what the NRL GF gets. Over 10 years that is $100m the game can invest elsewhere

That is a whole round. The GF you are only going to get fans of the 2 teams that make it.

Especially when flights go up crazy high that weekend
And if its two teams from that city by chance then sports tourism value is virtually nothing for a GF.

$73mill for F1 according to the commentators.

Whether its 10, 20 or 30 mil its new income for the NRL regardless, it'll sell out wherever it is, and cities with smaller capacities can be asked to compensate loss of ticket sales in their bids. Will help fix the image that the N in NRL stands for national not NSW.

Let the NSW gov fix its stadiums when it feels it needs to (with lobbying pressure of course) and not tie that in with the GF and the potential revenue raiser it could be if taken on the road super bowl style.

Best case scenario you'd try get the stadiums that need fixes fixed with good lobbying with the other rectangular codes and keep the GF rights completely separate and sold for actual cash, not half baked promises for stadiums in 1 city in a national competition

can't have both ,
its either venues in the burbs up to an acceptable standard with the GF as the trade off to get them to that level

or
shitholes & the GF on the road

I'd prefer option A

The SA Government paid $8 million for origin in 2020. What are they paying this year?

What did Queensland pay for AFL Origin? Scratch that...

What is Queensland paying for Magic Round in 2023?
