More people live in the Penrith region than in the whole of Tasmania, and more than the ACT. The Penrith region deserves it share of federal funds as well.

Hobart already has Blundstone
Yea, but we don't have the NRL saying there won't be a team at Penrith if there isn't a new stadium built do we
unlike the aflol which has linked a new team down there directly with a new stadium , without the 2nd , there won't be the 1st

Idk
Take it up with Albanese

marginal seat at federal level probably
There aren’t any. It’s just a really dumb decision. The only two seats relevant include an inner green suburb with an immovable independent, and a safe labor seat. All three other seats will be against the stadium. If anything he’s hurt his chances in those. It’s perplexing.

It's in the worst location on offer in the city though. The nearest major road (Tasman Highway) is nearly 1km away and the local streets surrounding the ground are a nightmare to get in and out of for major events either by car or bus. Bellerive Oval makes Brookvale look like the Adelaide Oval for access. It's just a ground in the middle of suburbia that the TCA in the 70s thought it would be a great ground to move to from their old ground in Domain, near the Hobart City Centre

So why is Hobart.
1. Because the Tas govt is putting in $375m.
2. Because they had a strategic plan, and the asked for $240m.

If the ACT puts up $200m, and puts a business case together (even one as flimsy as Tas), they would have a good chance of getting another $120m from the feds.

It’s not as bad as that. It’s not a comfortable arrival and departure but it’s doable. Crowds of over 18000 have managed it on multiple occasions.

Describing the tas business case as flimsy is being generous. It’s also really unpopular as shown today. I’d give it a 20% chance of going ahead now. As for Canberra, there is no excuse for our nations capital to have such a lousy stadium but here we are.

Nrl gets proactive about Canberra.
The usual whiny anti RL ..AFL loving twat has a giant bitch over it.
It's a massive stretch to call responding to a federal inquiry after being invited to do so proactive. It's also the only significant thing they've done after more than a decade of almost completely ignoring the situation.

Successive NRL administrations and ARLC commissioners would have taken up residence in the parliament if this was happening in NSW or QLD, but none of them could even be bothered to make some phone calls to help with the stadium in Canberra.

You’d have to feel pretty dirty about the situation if you’re a Raiders fan compared to the amount of boosting Allianz got.

Agreed. We should have a premium stadium in Canberra, use it for test matches and other high profile games and it should be home to an ANZAC day game every year. It’s the nations capital, has the war memorial so an ANZAC day game is a no brainer.

1. The ACT Govt dont want feds to build a stadium there, Tassie Govt did
2. A new stadium meant Tassie finally getting a top tier sports team to follow, Canberra already has 2 and a bit
3. Until ACT actually ask for funds then its a bit unfair to say the Feds are doing Canberra wrong by not funding something!
4. Tassie is a marginal seat area
5. This is the first time we know of that the NRL has actually shown any interest in lobbying on Raiders behalf, and tbh as far as lobbying goes it was a bit weak. Wheres the cost return analysis they could have provided re the benefits of a new stadium they've seen in other cities? The 'threat' of no major NRL events was pretty hollow given there arent any Canberra would be in the running for with a new stadium.
Nonsense.
