The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I read on another stadium site that to work out the perfect capacity it should be two-thirds full, two thirds of the time. I reckon a stadium needs to be 2/3 full to have a decent atmosphere.
The reason that Adelaide Oval is 90% full every week, it that they did not rebuild it for the maximum crowd (they could fill 100K 2 - 4 times a year), but for the maximum atmosphere (50K).
What is the point of a 75K capacity that will be filled 3 - 4 times per year? Just to compete with Melbourne? Put the ego aside and build a 30K - 35K stadium similar to Parra at Moore Park. Could even get a roof for $400m - $450m. Refit ANZ to hold 50k - 55K max. Forget the upper bowl. Just drop it down, and fix the gradient.
If NRL just wants to boast about 80K three times a year, you might as well leave ANZ as it is.
Building stadiums bigger than they need to be is a surefire way to ensure that they are empty most weeks.

This, a 35k fully roofed stadium in moore park would be far far better option, would likely attract more events and clubs as well. Sydney does need a 75k stadium though, happy for it to be anz as long as no club football is played there other than big events. Seems another 30k stadium somewhere for Dogs and Wests to share and you've gone a long way to sorting out sydneys problems, outer clubs are always going to be fcked tbh as they don't want to move in to the city and wont get funding for a 25k new stadium.

Roosters, Souths (with maybe a couple at WS stadium for the westie Souths fans) and 4 non Wollongong dragons games at a 35k roofed allianz replacement
Eels at WS Stadium
Bulldogs and Wests at a new 30k SW Sydney stadium
Big event games and sunday double headers at ANZ

Sorted for 75% of Sydney clubs

A large stadium in Moore park could plausibly attract 50k + crowds for
2 Origins
2-3 club NRL games a year (if we take lessons from ANZAC day and apply it to other events)
3-5 NRL finals matches a year (depending on who gets home finals
(Roosters, Souths, St George, Manly, Cronulla should use it for big events)
NRL Grand final
1 Kangaroos match (if we invest in International League)
+
Beldisloe Cup and other Wallabies matches
+
Sydney FC derbies and Socceroos matches
+
Big pop and rock concerts

15-20 big events a year + weekly Roosters, Waratahs and Sydney FC matches.

As much as we'd like to put NRL first this is a wider issue than just Rugby League

As long as the venue can be made intimate for club games it'd be great to have the major venue at Moore park. If we can indeed fit a 65k stadium there.

If the upper bowl of the current SFS went all the way round it would likely hit that capacity without any loss of atmosphere

Yeah but I'd like to see something extra, like the "intimate modes" they can create with lights.

Also something where the members had to sit in the lower bowl for club games.

There's just some basic stuff we could do to make it a better game day experience across the range of matches.

Has anyone actually seen a real stadium with this intimate mode idea operational? Sounds great in theory but does it really make it feel less like you are sat in a 2/3rds empty stadium?

At the SFS (currently) I'd like to see smarter use of seating.
Below certain expected crowd figures, sell more bays G, and close the ends and outer bays so that everyone's pushed in a little bit more rather than scattered.
Create a better atmosphere, make more people likely to attend again.

I haven't, but the concept doesn't look too bad. (I'll try and find a video and put it up later)

If a city of 5 million people in a first world country , can't have a stadium purpose built for its favourite sport with a capacity of 70K
then theres something seriously wrong
we are already forgoing 14K seats to get it right , giving up 29K seats is plain ridiculous

$400 grand final tickets would be the norm
F that crap ....

I am trying to think what ANZ might look like if the upper decks stay as is

If they continue with the reshapping of the lower area by droping the field 2m Square the ends with a upper deck at each end

The slopes on the seats could still increase up the current L3

Probably not that bad. Getting rid of the oval at both ends will make a huge difference

And capacity should still remain at a 80k capacity

For the SFS the number one issue is the roof

Take it off and add northern and southern stands. Maybe 20 rows deep

Fix the access issues. Then put on a proper rectangular roof like Suncorp

BUT also transform the current car park into a 6 level multistory car park

And add another in the old showground land east of the SFS

It's the squaring of the ends that reduces capacity. 2k seats lost from each corner.
