It'd be f**king hilarious if the government built a stadium in Port Moresby before building one Canberra lol.

f**king over your own people to virtue signal to an international community that only cares in so much as you're useful to them is such an Australian thing to do.
Well they're f**king over the people in Perth by funding a PNG team so they may aswell f**k over the people of the ACT too.

The PNG govt hardly is flush with cash, its rann massive budget deficits for last few years, thats why the whole folly needs Australian $'s. They arent spending on a stadium upgrade.

Png govt in the past has promised to build infrastructure like an athletes village for visiting teams

The PNG Government is deeply corrupt and massive budget problems.

The second biggest city in PNG is Lae. It’s 300 kilometres from Port Moresby. Do you know what year the road connecting the two cities was built?

TRICK QUESTION! There is no road connecting the two biggest cities in the country! It’s just sort of peters out when you get into the jungle and the mountains. You have to go via boat or plane to get between the two.

This really seems like a country that will be able to deliver on a major infrastructure project!

There was a proposal to go to 25k but imo that’s not big enough

should be 40k

also current ground has poor security and they were talking about an athletes type village for visiting teams for safety
I'd say a village or hotel adjoining the stadium would be good for travelling players and also fans

So how did they manage the two stadia they already have ? Was it by magic

What would be the protocols for serious injuries suffered in PNG?

Can't imagine the local medical facilities would match up to what's down the road from current NRL stadiums.
Gould mentioned on a podcast earlier this year that when they played a trial there with Penrith (I think?) they had medical helicopters on standby to fly them to Cairns hospital.

Edit: Just caught up on reading this thread and the helicopter controversy... sorry to bring it up again - lol

You've nailed the biggest issue, besides the crippling poverty and crime.

Any half decent player will immediately bolt to Australia.

But everyone knows that, this is why most LU people support it,

Whilst I agree that it's not ideal, isn't that why Cairns is being floated as the base? To address the social and economic issues associated with attracting players and their families to play for the team?

It should be on the other png bid thread anyways, ive mentioned this before a few times, its only now that the bid is being looked at seriously that the dreadful know-it-all experts are shooting it down, i bet if i post something similar on the Ipswich bid that it wouldn't even be a eye blinked, but since its whatever is in the news now, its getting all eyes looked at and massively picked apart...
Found another video from Gus visiting there 13 years ago...

Even allowing for the f**king medivac…

You’ve just gotten a compound fracture to your leg. Do you want to:

(a) Be taken by ambulance to an airport. Loaded into a plane (or magic helicopter). Wait for clearance to take off. Fly three hours. Land in Cairns. Be loaded back into an ambulance, and taken to Cairns hospital.

or

(b) Be taken by ambulance to a hospital ten to fifteen minutes away, which is about as far as you are from an Emergency Room from any major stadium in Australia?

Not sure how applicable this is when piloting a helicopter, but I've heard that many planes don't fly when its raining. Another hurdle to consider.
