Haha nothing screams top notch sports stadium like letting people take their dogs for a sht there!

BREAKING: We’ve just officially opened Leichhardt Oval for access as a public park.

You can now walk into the 8th wonder of the world from dawn til dusk, Monday - Friday, for a trial across summer as a public park.

You can go to the Wayne Pearce Hill for a picnic, to walk your dog or for a few late afternooon beverages.

Our aim is to make this permanent, all week, at the end of the trial.

Please stay off the playing surface because with so much high quality sport played on the ground we don’t want to jeapordise the surface quality.

Considering we are restricted to the existing location and $309M max spend and which would include demolition. 25K in 2 main sideline stands is ok, sounds better than the original proposal of western and southern. The stands will be top of the line with plenty of corporate, which would be more expensive than just a stand with seats.

Lets compare..

In 2012, Perth was upgraded for $90M. That's great, you should feel proud PR with that awesome price you keep telling everyone about. However, that was in 2012. Inflation from 2012 to 2022 rose 26%. However the Penrith redevelopment won't commence until 2025, so we need to add additional inflation to that. As per RBA inflation calculator, inflation between 2021 to 2022 was 6.6%, so lets use that number for 2023 and 2024 (as we don't know the actual inflation % yet), so 13.2% over the 2 years, but in reality would likely be much higher. That gives a total inflation of 39.2% (again would likely be higher) between 2012 and 2025. $90M is actually $125M in 2025

Same goes for Parramatta. Construction started in 2016. Inflation of 16.7% between 2016 and 2022. Plus 13.2% is 29.9% total. $300M build is 389M in 2025

Townsville commenced in 2017, 14.5% inflation between 2017 and 2022, plus 13.2% is 27.7%. $250M is $319M in 2025.

This is just general RBA inflation rate not specifically for construction which may actually be higher.

We don't know what the details are on the stands yet. How many seats? How much corporate? Whatever it is, the budget is set with both the overall capacity and actual seats to increase - thats a great thing we should all be excited about. Importantly, the number of quality (and likely undercover) seats should dramatically increase also.

Perth also doesn't have a roof.

So you are adding to that $125m for Perth double that because there a 2 new stands and the 2 costs are similar

Not really as the perth adjusted $125mill inc a main roofed stand and an unroofed end stand, as well as a number of other improvements. All you're getting in penrith for more than double is two roofed stands and no end work. The corporate stand will obviously be more costly than just a seated stand admittedly, depending on number of corporate facilities in it.

Not sure the Hills can be updated but yes removing Hills alone doesn't do much.
Yes they can

Newcastle has plans to do either end when they money becomes available which is exactly what Penrith willl do

plus keeping the hills keeps an affordable option now for families

If hills can’t be upgraded later it would only be for reasons that mean they can’t be upgraded now either. There’s no other practical reason you can’t replace an end hill with a stand at any point in the future, unless you build other stuff that completely obstructs access- and even then the site could be accessed from the pitch in the off season.

They do have a major sewer line under one hill or near it so the cost at one end could be prohibitive

You're also getting a team to play there. Unlike perth.

Yes, that fits into what I said. It has nothing to do with whether they upgrade it now or later, either way they’d have the same challenge of dealing with the sewer main

Newcastle doesn't have the sewage pipes.

The moment they said no to the paceway site, the hills were always going to stay.

Not a horrible thing it will give the ground its own feel

Hills are fine at the end of grounds, as long as there are stands along each sideline.
Newy looks great
