Divert the Tigpies to Perth

Yes or Easts Tigers in Brisbane for team 18. I'm okay if they take Ben Elias north of the border with them. We will keep Wayne Pearce here.

And of course re-instate the Magpies. The might of the Wests Leagues Club will secure their finances for centuries.

So they wouldn't do it then.

Because the purchase price + upgrade would be prohibitive.

The Dolphins would never sell anyway, selling your own house to rent it back is stupid business.
Governments have wasted way more than that in the name of a major sporting event.

As for the Dolphins, you probably right. They probably won't sell, but there would be definite benefits to doing so if they chose that route

Ballymore got an upgrade and it’s owned by the qru
Yep, and GWS have had money thrown at one stadium just for them to abandon it and then got another one.

Lions AFLW side has a prime spot of land with a 10k stadium on it so 200 people can watch them play.

Governments waste money, it's a fact of life and it is the NRL's job to get them to waste it for the benefit of RL.

It's not owned by the QRU, they have a Deed of Grant in Trust which means they administer it, but it can never be used for anything other then sporting facilities.

And the funding was a few mill or so, not the 500M+ being suggested for Dolphin Oval.

I'm not suggesting the govt spend money on a Dolphins owned ground. I'm suggesting the govt buy the land and upgrade the stadium as an Olympic 7s venue and as a legacy project for QLDs newest NRL club
One of the main selling points of Dolphins was the extra 9/10 games @ Suncorp, which the govt owns. Suncorp needs those games. Better to put the money into Suncorp when the time comes.

I'm interested to see what happens to Suncorp when the time comes. IMO all they can do is bulldoze and start again, but shift it 30m eastward and build it over the top of Hale St and make it 65-70k capacity.

The west stand is roughly 30 years old but has held up pretty well. The concourse isn't as spacious as the east side and the toilets are pretty small (this is repeated throughout the stadium) but it's not going to be any better without over a billion spent on it.

When they bulldoze I hope they take out the Matilda’s statues and just leave the king and Lockyer

If the overall strategy sold to the QLD govt is Broncos, Dolphins and Jets with Dolphins and Jets hosting their major SEQ derbies at Suncorp, then Suncorp will get its extra content while Dolphins and Ipswich get boutique grounds for the rest of their games in the area they represent.

Besides that point, Brisbane is getting to a size now where you need at least a second smaller stadium. You can't arrive at a situation in the future where Broncos, Dolphins, Jets, Reds and Roar are all playing out of the same ground.

Reds have Ballymore which suits their crowds

roars crowds are too small for Suncorp too

This part is 100% true. Problem is the solution probably doesn’t involve a stadium that’s club owned, or one that’s suburban located. From a strategic POV upgrading Ballymore actually makes more sense.

It probably does make sense, but it is QRU owned and the transport links / parking aren't the best. I would go the showgrounds at Bowen Hills and use the Exhibition train station on game days.

I was actually hoping out of all this they could do something with the old QSAC. That site is pretty huge. Needs transport though. But if Sydney can build a new train line and station for the Olympics so can Brisbane.

Make QSAC Brisbane's Homebush (but good). Suncorp becomes the inner city big but too big Allianz equivalent.

Yes i read what you wrote about that
... they wont do that, if they own the stadium, they aren’t going to sell it just to rent it off the govt, that will jack up the price, whenever it suits them
..
Its like selling your standard house, for the govt to build it into a mansion, but charge you mansion rates, when you already owned the standard house already in the 1st place,

i would prefer the NRL to start pushing and investing into getting as many clubs trying to buy and own their stadiums, Manly, Canberra, Kogarah,
Leichardt, Penrith, these clubs should own thier stadium, any club that doesn't use the larger stadia on offer should be buying their home ground

I don’t think you could actually do it with Canberra considering there are other tenants

A lot of nonsensical money gets spent on stadia for AFL, it is PVLs job to push our case, not point out the flaw in his own argument.

Deals can be done and we have to start getting them done more.

Re: Kayo and being privately owned, refer my previous sentence.

A lot of people are just silly and naïve. They seem to think that the world is fair and that everyone plays by the same rules. I am astounded at some of the child like questions or statements by posters on this forum. Seriously...babies.

The world is a eat what you kill type of place, no matter how much people think it has been tamed. Always was, always will be. If we don't stand up for ourselves and lobby hard for what we want for RL then our competitors will.

We have been to meek for way to long, we need to be more predatory and cunning like all great businesses or we will keep forfaiting the spoils to our competitors like we have been for so long.

That's the real world.
