That's a kick in the balls for AFL, and a win for sanity

Nice! Surely a Kayo stadium upgrade to 25k (or another northern location) justified by soccer and 7s needs to be a legacy project.

The NRL should announce Ipswich for 2032 entry and push for a 25k stadium for them too.

@Wb1234 Hey Govt can you fund the upgrade of privately owned stadium which has one tenant?

And can you fund the upgrade of a park footy oval that has no tenants?

Govt - "Are you high?"
A lot of nonsensical money gets spent on stadia for AFL, it is PVLs job to push our case, not point out the flaw in his own argument.

Deals can be done and we have to start getting them done more.

Re: Kayo and being privately owned, refer my previous sentence.

So, like the sharks, you think a state Government should pay to upgrade a facility owned by a private company? Sorry but no they should not. Regardless of what sport it is, I'm tired of public moneys being transferred to private entities for the ultimate benefit of those private entities (and please don't go on about the other organisations who use it - its owned by the Dolphins, and ultimately they would benefit if the Qld Govt spent money on it. I bet many of the organisations who use it have to pay rent).

No, I'm saying a deal can get done with the Dolphins, NRL and QLD Govt, the Govt can buy the land and build the stadium which the Dolphins could then take out a long term lease on. The NRL could commit rep fixtures to the state such as Pacific Championship and All Stars

Deals can get done and we should look to get them done more often.

Why would the Dolphins sell? Well the cash injection for starters that they can re-invest into their asset base to make even more money. Plus the opportunity to get a state of the art boutique ground built for all their games except the big QLD derbies.

Where do they plan on playing soccer and Rugby 7's in the Olympics?

That is different then The Sharks

Sorry but i gotta agree with Apollo on this one, you own the ground, upgrade it yourself, then you can charge rent to the Brisbane Roar or Qld Reds to use it, which would still be cheaper than using suncorp..
Maybe try to get it completed asap so when in future Suncorp ever needs an upgrade then you can charge the bronx massive coin to share it muhuhauawhawhaw

With the ends, there’s also an option of 2,500 to 3,000, one tier temporary stands. It doesn’t need to be permanent. Eastern and Western grandstands are very important in a rectangular venue.

Queensland Country bank stadium sytle?
If they have that ability to build a temporary stands on one end, then they could use them for more finals matches and internationals or other events

I'm not suggesting the govt spend money on a Dolphins owned ground. I'm suggesting the govt buy the land and upgrade the stadium as an Olympic 7s venue and as a legacy project for QLDs newest NRL club

Yes i read what you wrote about that
... they wont do that, if they own the stadium, they aren’t going to sell it just to rent it off the govt, that will jack up the price, whenever it suits them
..
Its like selling your standard house, for the govt to build it into a mansion, but charge you mansion rates, when you already owned the standard house already in the 1st place,

i would prefer the NRL to start pushing and investing into getting as many clubs trying to buy and own their stadiums, Manly, Canberra, Kogarah,
Leichardt, Penrith, these clubs should own thier stadium, any club that doesn't use the larger stadia on offer should be buying their home ground

I guess it depends what their long term goals are. There is little chance of them ever financially a 25k stadium themselves so...

Qlnd Govt is trying not to upgrade much other than the obvious main stadium. The rectangular sports venues are the ones already done plus some regional spend, mostly temp seating. Little sign they will have appetite, or need to for Olympic use, to upgrade significantly kayo, Cairns or Ipswich.

As is:
Ballymore - Hockey
NQ stadium - Football prelims
Gold Coast stadium - Football Prelims
Suncorp - Union and Football finals

Minor upgrades
Barlow Park - Football prelims
Sunshine coast stadium - Football prelims
Toowomba Sports ground - Football Prelims

And their Leagues Club on the doorstep.

So they wouldn't do it then.

Because the purchase price + upgrade would be prohibitive.

The Dolphins would never sell anyway, selling your own house to rent it back is stupid business.
