I wonder what the future southern stand capacity is and what the cost projections are. With all the future growth out west, I can see a lot of sold out games even in a 25,000 capacity stadium.

It’s more of a future desire than something that’s in the plans.

Before the current proposal it was going to be a west stand rebuild, new southern stand and doing up the aesthetics of the east stand.

The southern hill capacity right now is 3300, post rebuild it’ll be 3000. A future stand of about 6000+ would be good.

2 Grandstands same as Newcastle 24,000 seats plus 2 hills 32000 capacity. Then its set up for a 40,000 seat capicity in 10 years. when needed

So what's happening with Suncorp - any idea on what kinda money will be thrown at it and potential upgrades?

Seems like the QLD gov don't have a f**kin clue.

There will likely be a change of government later in the year and another review into the Olympic spend. So, nobody knows.

Pretty much this. It will change another 5 or 6 times in the next few years
The QSAC $1.6B option is ridiculous.

Just add that amount the the $1B for Suncorp/Gabba, spend half on each and for $1.3b you can increase Suncorp to 60k, and build a new stand at the west and of the Gabba to fit in an athletics track and push the capacity back over 40k.

Better for everyone.

In the future, what about the northern end of the ground?

Maybe, David Crisafulli has stated he doesn't want to spend billions on Stadiums either though...
Im still confused why they bid for the games in the first place without having a suitable stadium? Surely they knew they'd have to spend a lot of money creating something suitable?

Because between when the bid and now, we have seen the most extraordinary growth in infrastructure spending by all levels of government, in our nations history. Coupled with massive shortages of supplies, labour and raw materials.

Olympics are always money pits, no matter what anyone says, but by the end of the decade they could be nation ruining money pits.

My understanding was, and correct me if Im wrong, that there has always been $7bill committed to Olympic spend. Half Feds and half Qlnd.
Whats being proposed isnt changing that figure, just redistributing it to other areas? Seems from afar they are spending a big chunk of that money on three stadiums; one that has zero large crowd sporting use legacy (QSAC), and two that are not pivotal to the games success and Olympic funds are being diverted to tart up and give a few more years life to (Suncorp and Gabba).
Smacks of politics and vote winning.

This is always the spin used, by the minority, when the majority are against something. Basically its code for saying "democracy sucks"

Dutton and Abbot were very good at deploying this news speak, when in opposition.
