TIckets are $50 so very affordable. My family pass was $180. Cheap as chips.
The best weapon RL has to grow the game is to play SOO & GFs around the country. SOO's Game 2 should be MCG every second year, with Perth/Adelaide alternating other years. GFs should be ANZ every second year, with MCG and Qld alternating. I reckon Storm would go from 18K crowds and 21K members to 25K & 28K if that happened. Would be massive for RL. But the NRL will lose their leverage with stadium redevelopment, so that won't happen. Rock and a hard place.

Once slater smith and Cronk go
Plus Bellamy I think you'll find storms support will decline.
No way they can keep it up without those blokes.
Within 2 years they'll be bottom 8.

Undoubtedly, their likely relative future lack of success will prove a challenge but the culture down there seems so good as evidenced by the kids coming through that it may not as bad as might be feared.

ACT government could scrap $350m Civic stadium to build multi-purpose arena in Canberra

The ACT government could scrap plans for a new $350 million stadium in the city to instead build a smaller multi-purpose indoor arena on the site of the Civic Pool.

ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr flagged a radical change to the government's City to the Lake vision on Thursday at a Legislative Assembly inquiry into the proposal of a new convention centre.

The government is keen to strike a deal with the Australian Sports Commission to buy Canberra Stadium and give it options to transform the city's sport and cultural landscape.

It's another twist to the government's plans to build a state of the art 30,000-seat stadium with a roof on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin to host the ACT Brumbies, Canberra Raiders and professional soccer.

Government could bulldoze Canberra Stadium 'if price is right'
Mr Barr revealed the options now include redeveloping Canberra Stadium on its existing Bruce site and cutting costs by building a 7000-seat arena in Civic for indoor sports, concerts, conferences and exhibitions.

It's understood the sports commission is locked in ongoing talks with the government about the future of Canberra Stadium, the AIS Arena and the AIS pool.

If the government strikes a deal to acquire Canberra Stadium, the AIS Arena and AIS pool, it could bulldoze the venues and sell the land or invest in a major upgrade at Canberra Stadium.

On the ACT, that Barr seems to be on a mission to convoluted and confuse the whole process. Seriously how could.an indoor venue for women's basketball as the sole sporting Tennant be sustainable. I doubt the brumbies and Raiders will ever get a stadium at civic unless this moron disappears from the scene. Meanwhile watch him funnel further upgrades to the cricket ground

I don't know Canberra that well but is the stadium at AIS hard to get to? Is Civic the ideal place to have a stadium? Does it matter which place has the 30,000 seat indoor stadium? There is nothing in the article about Afl or cricket. They have used the term multipurpose which most of us cringe at but I hope that Todd chats to union and soccer bosses to make sure they are all on the same page and hold tight on the civic stadium plan. If Barr calls their bluff though, where do they play then?

This is where the NRL, ARU, FFA and the raiders and brumbies need to put pressure on Barr to make sure Canberra get the stadium they deserve.

It's not just that this stadium would be a huge boon to Canberra clubs it's important for Canberra when it comes to attracting international matches to the city.

Not only that, it's a massive attraction to have a city stadium. Look what a decent stadium has done for Adelaide. And wait till the Perth Stadium opens. Massive income for the local economy.
The one planned here is so close and in walking distance to what is supposed to be the city of Canberra that it would do wonders to the city life on game days. It's a no f**king brainer.
Canberra is brain dead at the best of times. Surely, this type of investment would pay for itself 10 times over if implemented in expenditure in the city centre and surely, it would revitalise crowds for the nations capital sporting teams.
It's short sighted dicks like Barr that hold back cities like this.
At least the Cowboys and Townsville have seen the light and are pushing ahead with a development that will revitalise a city centre.
Barr can go eat a big one.
Fair dinkum.

Do those muppets from the Australian Rugby Union ever put pressure on the government or is it all up to league. The Brumbies being their 'flagship' franchise you'd think they would be vocal on this. Gallop is just as useless over at the soccer when it comes to the Olympic stadium upgrade, silence. No wonder the shifty bastards at the AFL can get away with 100's of millions in funds at Manuka Oval for the 1000 pet memberships that comprise GWS.

I couldn't like this post more.
Seriously, what are the leaders of the rectangular stadium codes doing to fight off the Sherrin code?
FMD........WE can all see it.
What do we EVER hear from the leaders of sports that are supposed to protect us from the invasion from the south?
f**king nothing.
It really shits me.

Getting to it isn’t that bad, getting out of it is a nightmare. Sat in the bus for 45mins before we left the stadium last year, crowd was 20k+ but still.

The multipurpose suggestion in the article isn’t about a footy ground, it’s about an indoor arena that can host basketball, concerts etc.

Re the other footy codes. FFA aren’t likely to carry much weight, they’ve spurned Canberra for the Aleague under Gallop. Brumbies perhaps but I understand they’re waiting on a possible casino licence for their new HQ, so they may not want to rock the boat.

FFA are looking to expand so surely they would jump on board. Union might be a hard one if they are after the casino license then. I'm sure the Nrl can gauge there interest in the civic stadium and go from there.

It's out of the box but Aus basketball season goes from October to march. Could a 30000 indoor stadium be configured for a 10000 basket ball arena?? Surely it can be.

It boggles the f**king mind.

Brumbies and Raiders share - sorry, need an A-League team to be viable.

WNBL team - have a quarter of a billion dollars.

What the actual f**k.

I don’t think it’s an unreasonable view that his lack of enthusiasm for the rectangular ground directly related to his love of AFL.

Usually I’d think something like that is a bit fanciful but the history is there in this case.

He’s regularly seen at AFL events, he pays the giants $2.3m for 3 games, he’s paid for upgrades to Manuka.

Gallop is very cold on Canberra. He’s regularly said his preference is to expand to big cities only. (1 million plus population)

But there is talk Gallops time might be up. So you never know.

Well he never did any good for us so I wouldn't be surprised. I had read somewhere that his name came up for the possible vacant union job.
