The Oasis site may as well be called the Mirage site because it's been only 5-10 years away from reality for a LOOOONG time. (Correction, got my desert terms mixed up!)

I agree that it's a game-changer when (if) it happens, BUT if the Tigers can pull-off this development first and really bed-in to that south-west corridor then it may be too late.

It's definitely interesting times with two resurgent clubs shaping up for a battle in the west/south west!

If doggies get approval to build on the oasis site and find the funding they will lock out the tigers and own all of Sydney from belmore to Liverpool and push into Campbelltown

Sure getting funding for a 40k stadium is going to be a push but it could change them forever

I suppose it`s telling that the Bulldogs don`t use Commbank despite its` proximity, but I just can`t see how they`ll get financing for Liverpool despite Gould`s claim of the Dogs` becoming the biggest Rugby League club in the world, you wouldn`t write that boast off though.
I just wonder if they can bide their time and base themselves out of an up-graded Accorr, but can they average 30k - 40k so they don`t look like lost in a 70k plus stadium. Biggest Rugby club in the world, possibly. Then they could own from Belmore to Liverpool pushing south towards Campbelltown as you say.

Yeh even at 6 percent interest a loan of 500 million is 30 million interest vs Canterbury lc profit of around 10 million plus whatever the stadium makes

They aren’t mucking around though

Their planning proposal could’ve had another 500 to 800 units instead of the stadium which they would add tens of millions to the land value

They could potentially do a jv with a developer that they get the land for free and makes hundreds of millions from the units and retail and give back half to the dogs to help fund the stadium

Maybe the nrl could also chip in money if they can get enough events there

A 40k stadium out there is a pretty good spot for rugby league in Sydney

Fair point, BUT putting a COE there signals a shift in the Tigers focus towards the South-West instead of the inner-west.. and if that gathers pace & momentum, that can mean more games there - which adds to the business case for ground upgrades.

I suspect that's Richardson's strategy.. get things rolling in that market & see it snowball from there - much how Penrith invested in local juniors & gathered momentum.

It makes sense, because surely there's comparatively less growth potential in focusing on the inner-west (traditional Balmain & Wests pre-1980s territory).

The council is building the CoE, Not the club. They will use it as will soccer but they picked Concord stupidly

If they moved to Wellington due to stadium issues in Canberra I'd be a fan of theirs right away.

If the Raiders shift games to NZ they should shift to a modern RECTANGLE stadium. Shifting games to Wellington will make the ACT Government think ovals are acceptable.

If they moved to Wellington due to stadium issues in Canberra I'd be a fan of theirs right away.

If this was the major leagues they'd have been sounding out cities about relocating years ago, and Wellington wouldn't be on the short list unless they were willing to build a built for purpose rectangular stadium.

Don is too afraid of the backlash of jumping into the relocation discussion that the club needs to have, so he's trying to just dip his pinky toe in instead. He's trying to threaten the government with taking games away without fully committing to it, and all he'll achieve is the worst of both worlds.

Taking the odd game away won't be enough to sway the government or public opinion, and it'll compound most of the issues the club is facing. It'll lower the value of memberships here in Canberra, hurt attendance numbers, and put his supporters offside, while giving a free kick to his political opposition to argue that investing in a new stadium is even more of a waste of money if the Raiders are going take high drawing games out of town, and that they're greedy and only doing it for the cash.

Threating relocation is the nuclear option, but there's no half pressing the big red button.

Canberra would only be moving the warriors game to nz

And maybe the Brisbane game to Suncorp

They would make a shed load of money doing this in terms of bigger crowds and money paid by host cities

Nz would be Wellington Hamilton Dunedin chch or even rotarua or taranaki

Loads of the smaller clubs should do this to make more dollars

This isn't about money and you don't grow your fanbase by ripping them off.

In the long run taking games away from Canberra will just hurt the club and RL in the ACT and Southern NSW. Not that anybody at the NRL seems to care about that TBF.

As has been said elsewhere here, the oval of Wellington's stadium is pretty small by cricket standards - and reasonably accommodating to rectangular codes.

Is it ideal? No, however it's hardly the MCG.

Also, given the austerity mood that's set-in over here, it's unlikely it'll be replaced anytime soon - barring a Christchurch-type earthquake scenario.. and even then, look at the time it took Christchurch to get a new build done.
