Some of these stadiums built for MLS teams are the perfect design for a Manly or Cronulla. Shame neither have the funding to build something similar.

Well no club has the funding to build something similar, hence why the government has paid for them all.

And you'll find most new stadiums being built have significant public funding.

I wasn't talking about private funding, although Manly has said they are exploring that.

there's no return for investment in it really for private IMO

at todays prices , rounded up again you are looking at 15k per seat
a 20k ground is 300 million dollary donuts.

how do you recoup that money invested?

It depends on the design of the venue. The Sharks could move to Loftus. Build a stadium similar to old Pirtek, a modern version of Pirtek where behind the goalposts at northern and southern ends, there's uncovered seating. Have two main grandstands on the eastern and western sides with a roof.

A few years ago at Kayo stadium, they completed a $6.5 million build at the northern end of the ground. It caters for 3170 grandstand seats and change facilities suitable for female athletes.

So maybe build 3,500 seats behind the goalposts at each end without a roof. On the western grandstand with a roof , have 8,500 seats along with corporate, broadcast and more change room facilities. And on the eastern grandstand, build 9,500 seats with a roof. Takes capacity of the ground to 25k.

With funding, Sharks do need for the NRL to contribute. Additionally sell Shark Park, and the rest of it from the state government.

How NRL contributes? Well when PNG comes in, it is expected that each club will receive $3,5 million. Although that is federal government money. Similar amounts could occur with Perth Bears in 2027 and team 20 in the early 2030's, but money from those two teams could come from tv rights. So Cronulla could pocket up to $10 million and save it towards a new venue. Also if the NRL strikes a $3 billion tv deal, then they may contribute a few more million.

Just some thoughts....

Wests Tigers have committed to playing home games at Leichhardt Oval and Campbelltown Sports Stadium for at least the next 15 years after securing $100 million in government funding.

The bombshell concludes months of tug-of-war between government officials and Tigers chief executive Shane Richardson, who had threatened to withdraw the club from the suburban venues unless funding could be secured for upgrades.

But at halftime of the Tigers' match against North Queensland on Sunday, Richardson confirmed both grounds were part of the Tigers' long-term plans.

The announcement was met with enthusiastic cheers from a packed Leichhardt Oval.

"Super happy for the players, the fans, both here and Campbelltown," said coach Benji Marshall after a loss that looks to have ended the Tigers' finals hopes.

"I think it's important for us to know where our future lies, especially for our fans. It's a credit to Richo."

The club has yet to confirm how many games will be played at each venue per season, and intends to play NRLW fixtures at both grounds as part of the agreement.

Consider the Campbelltown area's vast and blooming junior talent pool, the decision to keep playing there for the long-term looms as particularly pivotal for the Tigers.

Leichhardt Oval, meanwhile, has been the Tigers' spiritual home since before their merger with Western Suburbs to form Wests Tigers in 2000.

"We face a unique set of challenges as a joint-venture club and it was vitally important to ensure this strategy supported the long-term financial sustainability of the Wests Tigers, while maintaining a strong connection to the communities we represent," Richardson said.

"We set a very clear vision for the club, and this strategy is a significant part of that.

"It lays the platform for an exciting period for our members and supporters and we look forward to sharing more developments on these projects as they are finalised."

$50 million for the doggies?
Doggies would need 800 million to a billion

They are proposing a 40k roofed stadium so no idea how they are funding it

They are getting a new centre of excellence at Belmore which is taking out half the back of the hill and joining the playing fields behind

Tigers should play:
2x blockbusters at accor
4x leichardt
6x campbelltown

With a bit of form, upgraded stadiums, I can see them averaging 20k+ with the above setup.

Pulling 40k+ to Accor games vs bulldogs and Parra could see them well over 20k average.
It will be interesting if it increases the capacity at the 2 grounds. Richardson seemed to make it all about corporate facilities, which is fair enough.

That’s actually a very good breakup up grounds

No more than 3 grounds.

Since they’ve committed to both grounds now for 15 years

SMH implies that LO will have a capacity of 20K again https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/first-look-at-40m-redesign-of-leichhardt-oval-20250422-p5ltgj.html

Everything else just talks about the upgrade adding 3,000 extra seats to the venue (https://www.pm.gov.au/media/40-million-upgrade-historic-leichhardt-oval), but not how much extra capacity.

I'd imagine, at worse, it would still push it to closer to 18K. From a Tigers perspective, it's easier to sell a membership or a ticket to a seat than a patch of grass, so they'd be happy about that.
