Does not matter what stadium in Sydney area you talk about the problem will always be getting people to go to matches. If your team is winning people go if not only the hard core supporters watch. The other problem is parking and the time spent getting away from matches when it is easier to watch on TV with no hassles.

What is it like watching games @ SCG?
Better or worse than ANZ?
Could they have downscaled SFS to 30K?
Play a big Roosters final @ SCG?

Original SFS was built for $68M ... and was only designed to last 25 years..

it would be easier to knock it over and start again

I'm flabbergasted at people saying leave the SFS as it is, no need to knock it down. Really? Obviously many of you have not been to games at the ground when it rains. Unless you are one of the lucky 20% of people who have seats under cover you get soaked, or have to stand out in the concourse and watch the monitors to watch the game.

Additionally, as much of the infrastructure of the stadium is built out of concrete, it is quite often cheaper to knock the whole thing down than renovate.

Agree about the terrible drip lines but problem is sydney isnt Brisbane. Whilst Suncorp is very rarely less than 50% full a big 60k replacement is going to be rarely more than 30% full and often 75% empty. Part of the issue the game has at the moment is big empty stadiums giving the impression it is a minor sport that nobody watches and run down suburban grounds that look great full but don't have corporate facilities or suck on the rain. this plan is only going to continue that. Better for nrl would have been replace it with a 35k new stadium, improve ANZ but don't use it for club games, rebuild parra to 30k and then let Penrith, sharks, st George and manly fight it out for the remaining $200mill.

It's an extremely poor venue for rugby league.

For over a century, it was the only major sports arena in the Sydney metropolitan. That's why it's tied with rugby league heritage.

The move to SFS in '88 was a quantum leap for spectating rugby league and any other rectangular arena sport. The downside of the SFS when it opened was its capacity and that limiting BS spacebowl design by Phillip Cox. There may have been space concerns due to the northern end of the ground being a strong piss stream from Moore Park Rd, and likewise with the southern end and the SCG, but new Lang Park rectangular type design with a 2nd tier right around the ground would have been ace. I think there may have been issues at the time with maintaining the SCG as the biggest capacity venue in the metro, too.

This guy gets it.

Greater Sydney is one of the worst designed metropolitan in the world.

And then you have every game broadcast practically live. What's the incentive to get out to a match when it's all provided for in the comfort of your home or at the pub/club without all the hassle of traveling and arse-raping by venue concessions?

These Sydney finals on the weekend should be broadcast on delay unless they're close to being a sellout (or in the case of Canterbury vs St George, around 35k tickets are sold).

Yep. The SCG is a terrible ground to watch a rugby league game at, in fact in terms of sight lines it is worse than ANZ Stadium. The "best" seats in the stand are all at oblique angle to the rugby league field whilst those which are at a 90 degree side on view are so far away it is ridiculous.

The Roosters have taken a few games to the SCG over the years and every time I've hated it because the view is so poor. People forget the SCG is a complete oval, so the middle of the rugby league field is further from the fence than at ANZ.

As to the SFS, yep it has problems as you mention. You only had to look at what happened on ANZAC day this year when it rained during the Roosters v Dragons match. the worst pooling of water was at the tunnel where the players enter the field.

Can we build a replica of ibrox at moore park? 51k capacity and holds atmosphere like no other. Grandstands are multi tiered and on top of the action, plus i dont think its footprint is that big.

If they rip down the SFS, we'll be without a home for a couple of years. So where would you like to see us play in that time, Captain?

As poor the viewing is at the SCG, I'd rather play our home games there (provided the SCG Trust/Swans allow us) because of the location with maybe three/four games up at Blue Tongue. I couldn't hack going to ANZ for two years.

Realistic options for roosters are SCG and Gosford.
Kogarah would make more sense than homebush.
They may look to take games on the road...I.e Wellington for warriors, Perth for storm etc

For smaller teams..... I can imagine .. Leichardt for 2 - 3 games..

Using those years to invest massively in a Gisford connection would be ace...

And, given that would reduce the Roosters Sydney games to 6ish, the rest could be played at the SCG without too much fuss.
