Glad to see the NSW government continues to acknowledge the rest of the state exists.

Oh whats that?

Carry on then.

We had to beg for half a job... we still have shipping containers for corporate boxes and a 50inch HiSense for a "big screen".

But no, Allianz definitely needs to be demolished and rebuilt first.

Rest of the state? You mean that place where we can sell off their rail corridors to developers?

Why the hell do the Eels need a 30,000 seat stadium? Have they promised the government they'll stop being completely shithouse at some point in the next 50 years?

for tigers, panthers and eels to play out of.

if the eels can finish bottom 8 and sell it out a couple times a year i think they deserve an upgrade.

if they won a GF theyd be avging 25k there with 1 or 2 40-50k games at ANZ

exactly. expect to see tigers, panthers and eels playing out of there instead of ANZ. was always going to happen and makes a huge amount of sense. well done David Smith!

don't really get the allianz one though, hopefully souths return

Stuck with the Eels forever it seems, maybe the NRL have plans of adding them to their collection of wayward clubs and take over running the joint

I honestly cannot see wests and especially penrith playing at parra stadium. I think smith has misjudged the extent of sydneys tribalism and over estimated peoples willingness to travel an hour to watch their team at "home"

It's a myth. You'd think Sydney was the only city in the world with district sport by the way some people talk.

Fans will want their clubs to play at these shiny new stadiums asap. Gameday experience will improve, crowd averages will jump and the DT readers will be asking why it wasn't done years earlier.

I love that we're finally getting a decent stadium but I just don't see how this is going to work for the further out teams.

If Manly and to a lesser extent Cronulla and Penrith are forced to use these stadiums for the majority of their games it'll be the end of them in Sydney. The transport links simply aren't good enough. No one wants to travel more than an hour to watch a home game. The NRL could be banking on the idea that moreso than ever in the next 10 years fanbases will be more de-centralized, looking at Souths Western Syd fanbase as an example. Or, they are purposely pushing some teams over the edge to force relocation or folding.

Again, I love the new stadium plan for Sydney but I hate what it might do to Rugby League's tribalism. Going to Homebush to watch Cronulla or Parra to watch Penrith just wouldn't feel right.

Sharkies won't be forced to use another stadium as they own their own stadium.

It would be nice to see brookie and shark park upgraded to a 20-22k boutique stadium. All the other Sydney teams should use the new parra stadium, new Moore park and anz.

Unfortunately we probably won't see any upgrades for brookie or shark park any time soon.

Err newcastle has had phased development and has imo the best two grandstands in the state. Plus WIN got a new grandstand and gosford is sorted. Sydney is longer overdue new or improved stadia. We have a multipurpose white elephant that is good for neither oval or rectangular codes and it seems somes some of the monies will go towards rectifying that at last

However, i still beleive that they have no chance of getting penrith to host games at parra. An outside chance for wests playing some at parra, but i would have thought they would continue to base themselves at homebush to take advantage of reciprocal rights with the bunnies and doggies. There is a long way to go on this and any predictions of the end of suburban grounds is rubbish st this stage. 10 years from now i can see

Roosters- SFS and gosford
Bunnies - homebush (maybe some at SFS?)
Manly- brookvale or nowhere
Sharks- shark park and SFS
Dragons- wollongong and SFS (bye bye kogarah)
Eels- parra stadium and homebush
Panthers- penrith park (eventually based at proposed western sydney stadium)
Bulldogs- homebush
Tigers- homebush and Campbelltown (bye bye leichardt)

Is there any design chosen for parra yet or a proposed start date for works?

Which stands for us allowing you into our comp. The FA cup final never moves in England.
That was correct when it was still run by the NSWRL but after the Super League war the competition has been the National Rugby League. Do try to keep up.

ANZ Stadium is the only stadium which can accommodate the huge crowds which want to see

1. NRL Grand Final
2. State of Origin
3. rugby union internationals
4. soccer internationals

A new 65,000 seater at Moore Park will not be big enough for the above games. The existing 45,000 seater now named Allianz Stadium is big enough for Roosters and Souths home games, and is the best location for such games, as well as Sydney FC home games, and Waratahs Super Rugby games. That is why a new 65,000 seater at Moore Park is a total waste of money.

The existing grounds that can be most profitably improved are ANZ, Allianz, Pirtek and Campbelltown.

The best way to spend the available money is:

1. Upgrade ANZ Stadium with the rectangular seating option and a retractable roof.
2. Upgrade Allianz Stadium with better food and toilet facilities and a retractable roof
3. Enhance Pirtek Stadium (Parramatta) to seat 30-35,000 for Parramatta Eels and Sydney Wanderers home games
4. Enhance Campbelltown Stadium with more covered seating, and better toilet and food facilities

The above priorities take account of where most residents of Sydney actually live.

i agree with most of this, but i don't think that souths will move back to the sfs when most of their supporters live in western sydney now, and are spread all over sydney, and olympic park is alot closer to the centre of the sydney metro area

Any money spent on ANZ is a waste of money unless it is demolished and rebuilt.

that's what should happen

the sfs only needs a retractable roof.

parra stadium just needs another level of seating behind each set of posts. that should give them around 30,000 capacity. if the wanderers or eels ever need a larger capacity than that for some games then they could just play those games a few suburbs to the east at a new olympic park stadium

So basically all we are doing is knocking down pirtek and rebuilding it bigger. By 2019. The rest happens after that. Baird probably be back in Hong Kong working for HSBC by this stage. And labor in power may scrap all plans

Anz is being reconfigured to a rectangle stadium and about 75k capacity. That's probably what would be built if they knocked it down and started again.

It would be easier than travelling to ANZ for most of Sydney given all train lines go to central, whereas only 1 train line goes to Lidcombe.

Coming from my place in Caringbah is a 3 train proposition to ANZ but would only be a train and light rail to moore park. And that is the same story for all but 2 train lines in Sydney.

not everyone travels by public transport though and moore park is right on the east of the sydney area, where as olympic park is alot closer to the centre. olympic park is easier and quicker to get to travelling from areas like parramatta, penrith, campbelltown, liverpool etc
