Err newcastle has had phased development and has imo the best two grandstands in the state. Plus WIN got a new grandstand and gosford is sorted. Sydney is longer overdue new or improved stadia. We have a multipurpose white elephant that is good for neither oval or rectangular codes and it seems somes some of the monies will go towards rectifying that at last

However, i still beleive that they have no chance of getting penrith to host games at parra. An outside chance for wests playing some at parra, but i would have thought they would continue to base themselves at homebush to take advantage of reciprocal rights with the bunnies and doggies. There is a long way to go on this and any predictions of the end of suburban grounds is rubbish st this stage. 10 years from now i can see

Roosters- SFS and gosford
Bunnies - homebush (maybe some at SFS?)
Manly- brookvale or nowhere
Sharks- shark park and SFS
Dragons- wollongong and SFS (bye bye kogarah)
Eels- parra stadium and homebush
Panthers- penrith park (eventually based at proposed western sydney stadium)
Bulldogs- homebush
Tigers- homebush and Campbelltown (bye bye leichardt)

Is there any design chosen for parra yet or a proposed start date for works?

they were talking about building another western sydney stadium. that might not be at penrith, since they already have a decent stadium for penrith. the new stadium might be at liverpool or badgerys creek..

So out of a Billion $ we still get half the teams playing in big empty stadiums, one (maybe two) teams playing In a decent modern correct sized stadium and the rest playing in outdated poor facility grounds? Great outcome!

When has the NRL/ARL/NSWRL averaged 17,000 or more a season?

If people answer that question and think maintaining the status quo (i.e. boutique, tribal, home grounds) is the solution, how much more longitudinal data do you need?

We have to face upto the fact that cronulla , roosters ,manly and Penrith. Should always play in their region, they have a fixed supporter base

The other Sydney teams have very much a location agnostic base and have supporters from all over the state and the country.

It's a national/international comp. If some clubs can't grow their brand inside their own city then they belong in the NSW Cup.

I agree with that 100%. A new and god help us bigger stadium at moore park can not be justified, nor can any more money being spent on the SCG which has snuck under the radar so far.

My big concern is that stadium quality is currently a lesser problem than Sydney infrastructure and location at the moment. The solution they have chosen really does nothing for the problems most league people have with Moore Park, its almost as far as it gets form the centre of population of Sydney and in particular the strong league areas. Parking is complete shambles and any sort of crowd cripples the surrounding road infrastructure. Another problem, although I disagree with this one is its 10-15 walk from central. Therefore, putting a shiny new bigger stadium on the same piece of land with the same tenants (nobody else will play there) and no infrastructure solutions is reckless and an inappropriate way to spend public money.

A new build homebush with 75K capacity should be league HQ in Sydney.

Agree with that, rebuilding the SFS is a stupid idea. It's not a bad stadium, but it could have nicer seats and better food facilities- that doesn't require a rebuild, it requires a refurbishment.

The NSW government must see the new tram line as being one of the key thing justifying an SFS upgrade, it sure is a massive improvement on the current method of accessing it from Central (I.e. a bus or long walk), but it's not anywhere near as reliable as a heavy rail line would have been.

If whinging was an Olympic sport rugby league fans would be morals for the gold.

The new stadium at Moore park will be lucky to even be finished in 10 years, it's not being built with today's needs in mind. Those arguments saying there is nothing wrong with it are stupid, what will people think of it in 2026? It needs to happen, so it's either now or later when it is really dilapidated.

What is missing out by building a new stadium at Moore Park? Parramatta are still getting their new stadium, Homebush is still getting redeveloped into rectangular stadium, another stadium at Penrith has been flagged. What's the issue if you are a rugby league fan?

The issue is that there's still no team in Perth.

Darn, if only there was some way for time to move forward and for things to change....

Oh wait, that already f*cking happen. Its their own fault that they have done nothing to widen their fanbase and the ARLC should not be rewarding this level of mediocraty.

Either they invest in growing their support or they play in empty stadiums and haemorrhage money....

I'm flabbergasted at people saying leave the SFS as it is, no need to knock it down. Really? Obviously many of you have not been to games at the ground when it rains. Unless you are one of the lucky 20% of people who have seats under cover you get soaked, or have to stand out in the concourse and watch the monitors to watch the game.

Additionally, as much of the infrastructure of the stadium is built out of concrete, it is quite often cheaper to knock the whole thing down than renovate.
