Fair bit of residential shit all around Suncorp, don’t think Optus has this issue yeah?
Yeah, Optus isn't near suburbia. It's in the casino precinct by the river. nib would be another thing altogether as its in the east Perth, highgate suburb.
Also Optus only has 2 tenants

SUBURBAN FOOTY PUSH

THE push to get funding for the NRL’s suburban grounds continues with some powerful government and opposition figures wanting to get on board.

It would be outside of the government’s commitment to build a new Allianz Stadium and rebuild ANZ Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park.

Spending money in the lead-up to next year’s election on the outdated facilities at Brookvale Oval, Belmore, Shark Park, Penrith and Leichhardt Oval is seen as a much smarter move to win votes across the Sydney metropolitan area.

I thought you were saying a second stadium won’t happen? Bit confused about your original response.

I agree with you about the need to differentiate a new team from the broncos, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be a geographical difference in where the team plays. The Adelaide & Perth AFL teams share a venue, but they still have clear seperate identities.

You could for instance create a member owned club, that would be in stark contrast to the corporate identity of the broncos. Or a western Brisbane team which is based out of the west, has a leagues club there, but still plays at Suncorp. More than one way to skin a cat.

The issue in Melbourne is much more identity than it is geography.

Yep, the point of difference for Bris 2 would be the ownership model. QRL or member owned with a community focus.

Suncorp Stadium is a must their games against Broncos, Storm, Warriors, Dragons, Cowboys and Titans would all pull bigger crowds than Ballymore can handle. Let the Reds and Roar play at Ballymore and the two NRL Clubs play at Suncorp.

what possible case is there for a 2nd a league side in Brisbane ?
the one they've got can barely crack 10K fans a game lol

It’s not a good case, but the Aleague are desperate to expand. 10 team comp has made things very stale.

If it was up to me I’d expand into Tasmania, could be a perfect fit for the Aleague, however Gallop is obsessed with large markets getting teams. Most think it will be Southern Sydney & a second Brisbane team.

its borderline suicide business wise , truth is there is just no market for 2 more sides anywhere including Sydney or Brisbane
I suspect Foxtel as part of the negotiation for this current tv deal told FFA they ... must .. increase the content if they want 60 million a year , if they don't expand , they'll stay at 40 million.
FFA will hope they can get 2 more teams running for a lot less then 20 million a year , but I suspect they won't & it'll be Gold Coast & Nth Qld mark II

its going to be a train crash

It’s a massive catch 22.

They’re really in a bad position either way, current 10 team comp is at its lowest ebb, they need something. Huge roll of the dice though.

If the new teams fell over, or some current teams due to the league spreading themselves too thin, it could be goodnight nurse for the league.

They’ve opened up a formal expression of interest process for expansion. There’s actually 2 Brisbane teams applying for expansion, strikers and Brisbane city. The latter is the one who wants to play out of Ballymore.

SOCCER’S PAY TV LIFT

DAVID Gallop is expecting a huge boost in A-League TV ratings next season as a result of Fox Sports’ new deal with Australian cricket.

Gallop says pay-TV subscribers who often cancel their services after the NRL and AFL grand finals until the start of the following seasons are now more likely to sign up for 12 months.

Soccer will be competing against cricket over the summer months but more homes will have Foxtel boxes to watch soccer.

“It will be a good result for us in terms of ratings,” Gallop said.

“The more people who have Fox Sports, the better it is for us.”

Meh, from an NRL point of view the new A-League side only need to stay alive long enough for a stadium to get built/redeveloped..

oh I'm not concerned for soccer
I hope they do it in Brisbane only for a 3rd QLD side to fail spectacularly , I just don't think it'll be Brisbane tho ... because I suspect they know it'll fail.

I agree with the need to differentiate and have a point of difference between the teams but from where I'm standing there's not really much difference between Adelaide and port except everyone hates port and here in Perth freo just seem like a team for people that don't like sport and like losers.
Surely the bombers would just be Brisbane mark 2

those extra subscribers are coming on board to watch cricket not soccer
& because they happen to go up against each other at the same time of year
subscribers will have to choose
so
the Cricket will annihilate soccer for ratings , like everything else does

They would obviously be coming for the cricket but there's a chance that they watch soccer or something else. More subscribers to the sports package is a good thing for all codes.

The quote from Gallop that El D posted just goes to show how clueless Gallop is. FFS, relying on another sport to boost his own sports ratings? Is the guy really that f**king stupid? I suspect yes, and it is this guy and his cohort Stephen Lowy that has taken football to new depths.
Pay him out ffs, and bring in someone that not only knows how to run a sport, but actually understands it.

I want football in this country to succeed. Not as a competitor to RL, because I believe these two sports can work together harmoniously. It's because football is the biggest danger to AFL and has the best chance of reducing ALF's footprint in this country. Junior football players are smashing the ALF in VIC.
Is it any wonder that ALF were so anti FIFA World Cup during the bid, while the NRL supported it.
