I know this won’t happen, but has any government looked at the demand for a stadium north of the Harbour? I’ve read on here how Manly supporters tend not to travel and I’m sure if Norths were still in the comp the same would apply. I would assume RL supporters in general in that part of Sydney would rarely attend RL matches due to the issues of travel. It could be used for Union and soccer and IMO would get a fair bit of use.

Gore Hill Oval would be a good place. Right near St Leonards station and the highway.

Geez that is going to be a cauldron! Take it from someone who has enjoyed the view and atmosphere from a similar pitch nib East stand, this will be amazing and when replicated on 4 sides is going to be immense! No excuse for not going to a game now Sydney!

Gold Coast Titans seek discount on Cbus Super Stadium deal to keep ground as home venue

TRAVIS MEYN, The Courier-Mail
April 26, 2018 5:50pm

THE Titans are chasing a $40,000 stadium discount in the hope of avoiding homelessness beyond Friday night.

The Gold Coast’s controversial contract to rent Cbus Super Stadium expires after Friday’s NRL clash against Cronulla.

The Queensland Government announced a review into its stadium operations on Sunday, but that is not expected to be completed until late in the year.

The Titans currently fork out about $1.3 million a year – at around $110,000 per game – to rent the 27,500-seat stadium at Robina.

The deal is worth nearly $500,000-a-year more than Newcastle’s arrangement to hire McDonald Jones Stadium.

The Titans privately believe Newcastle is a similar comparison and are hopeful of securing a long-term arrangement that will reduce their hiring costs by about $40,000-a-game.

Speaking publicly for the first time about the stadium drama, Titans co-owner Rebecca Frizelle said the club needed certainty.

“We are working with the Queensland Government to resolve the stadium issues,” she said.

“We are confident we will reach a resolution.

“We welcome the review for a long-term solution, however we still require an immediate short-term solution.”

After the Cronulla clash, the Titans have three weeks to nut out a new short-term deal with Stadiums Queensland before their next home game against Newcastle on May 19.

Given the lengthy review, a long-term arrangement is unlikely to be struck before season’s end.

The Titans have been signing two and three-game deals as they continue to push for a better deal.

The Gold Coast had a home attendance average of 13,688 last year, the ninth best figure in the NRL.

However their stadium hiring fees are among the highest in the game, although they have dropped significantly from the $220,000-a-game the club paid before it crumbled in 2015 and was taken over by the NRL.

With Frizelle and husband Brett along with Darryl and Jo Kelly assuming ownership of the club, the Titans are chasing a better deal to ensure they can invest into their football department instead of losing heavily on stadium costs.

The Titans only stand to make a profit from two games a year when they host the popular Broncos and Warriors.

Titans CEO Graham Annesley said the club was in discussions with government to ensure they could strike a new deal before the Knights game.

“We’re continuing to negotiate with the government,” he said.

“We’re hopeful of an outcome that will allow us to enter into a long-term agreement rather than these short-term agreements we’ve been entering into for the last three-and-a-half years.”

In 2015, the Titans threatened to take a home game against Brisbane to ANZ Stadium, only to reach an agreement a few days before the match.

I know its not league related but very interesting.

http://www.france24.com/en/20180426-england-fa-football-soccer-sell-wembley-stadium-us-billionaire

England’s Football Association is in negotiations to sell Wembley Stadium, the home of its national football team, to US billionaire Shahid Khan, owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars American football team, in a deal worth up to £1bn (€1.1bn).

It is understood the approach includes £500m for the stadium and £350m for the Football Association (FA) to keep the Club Wembley unsecured loans and hospitality business.

Under the plan, the FA would keep Wembley as the main venue for major matches, including England internationals and the FA Cup Final, but the national football team could play elsewhere in October and November due to clashes with the US National Football League season, British newspaper The Sun said.

A spokesman for the FA said: “We can confirm that the FA has received an offer to buy Wembley Stadium.”

That Travis Meyne is really on top of his NRL.
The Titans play Saturday night.

$220,000 a match was highway robbery and $110,000 a match is still ridiculous.
The Qld government will have a big empty stadium (even emptier than it is now) with no tenants if they’re not careful.

Even at $220k it would have taken 61 years to recoup the cost of building it. Stadiums are a funny tax payer expenditure when you think about it. Goes back to Roman days I suppose.

Stadium business cases for govt are never simply about direct revenue. The increased business activity from a professional sports team & the building of the stadium plus associated infrastructure isn’t a complete sunk cost for govt. A lot of that money comes back to them in taxes.

That’s a stupid way of looking at it.
When they committed to building it, there was no professional sports team based on the Gold Coast. Having the titans announced, and the name “Gold Coast” mentioned up and down the east coast and NZ every week for 8 months of the year for the past 10 years is huge for the region being recognised as Australia’s #6 city. The tourism and business that comes from that probably almost pays for the stadium alone. Then you have the naming rights, the fees from using the corporate function rooms when the stadium isn’t in use, rent from rugby union, the soccer team that were based there, Indigenous All stars, Kangaroo test, using the stadium to attract the Commonwealth Games, and all the economic benefits it brought, concerts, monster trucks or whatever....the stadium has more than paid for itself already.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but further development at Shark Park has been approved.

This includes

  • More retail space, including an upgraded Sharks Leagues Club with large north-facing terrace.
  • A 75-room hotel.
  • A sports Centre of Excellence adjoining the Andrew Ettingshausen Stand within Southern Cross Group Stadium.
  • An extra 400 car parking spaces and 77 bicycle parking spaces, and revised landscape designs.
I’ve heard woolies is moving in to the retail section.

For those of you who don’t know the place.
The terrace they are building will over look Botany Bay up towards the city.
We’re talking million dollar water views .
It’ll be awesome just to go to for a beer.

It is a massive boost for the clubs financial situation.

I am thinking the stadium will get a huge upgrade itself in the future.

The hotel at the ground will be great for fans from inter state or out of town.

This concept drawing jumped out at me.

If they do it like that it’s really going to restrict the ability to build a new eastern stand in the future.
