Manly has a site to build a stadium, it’s called brookvale, what they dont have is $250million to make it happen!

and the idea of Manly playing in the Bears district.

And this is why Manly will always be a small time park footy club.
They need to go for the kill in North Sydney.
If the Sharks had been kicked out, the Dragons would have gone hard at the shire, and vice versa.
Confining yourself to like 8 isolated suburbs that young families can't afford to live in is a death sentence

At least the Dragons could say they are reclaiming what was once theirs.

But they don’t have a site. They have no site that has access to mass transit rail or a link to the motorway network. They might have a site in the future if the crossharbour North Shore motorway is built and the North Shore Metro extension is built. If a government was to build a stadium for the north side of the harbour today, the site would not be Brookvale.

Where would it be?

Travelling through Chatswood on the train for years, I've looked at that oval and thought "what if...?". If they could somehow raise the funds to buy back the land on the other side of Orchard Road, it would be an absolutely amazing location. Unfortunately, you'd have to think that that ship has sailed...

The grandstand at Chatswoos Oval is hysterically listed. Should have happened in the 1990s when you could have had the Bears, Eagles, Spirit and even the Waratahs all sharing the ground. Ship, sailed and all that.

People always bitch about Manly not moving into the North Shore, but never seem to be aware of the fact Norths always chuck a tanty when Manly so much as visits a school and the NSWRL put a brake on it. Can't do much with an obstructionist club and governing body in the way.

Couldn’t they just pull it apart & put it up somewhere else?

The place is quite rammed on the weekends, and if the articles in the North shore Times complaining about the lack of sun on the grass are anything to go by, These days the Nimbyism would be through the roof. What clubs could play there? Would Norths crack a sad about Manly playing on their hallowed turf?

No busier than downtown parramatta though. And much closer to the train station.

Obviously it’s pie in the sky, but such a location is perfect for a ground. The closer to a train line the better.

I’m not sure the nimbyism would be a huge issue in Chatswood, all the residents are pretty used to living in tight quarters. Many Asian people who for them it’s pretty typical of home.

Parramatta stadium is a bit set off from the core district, which is fairly larger and more spread out that Chatswood to start with. Chatswood Oval is like a hundred metres from the Carpark for Westfield.

The core of Chatswood is 'Asian', but I don't think those Asians who can afford to migrate to Chatswood are used to living in cramped quarters! But they aren't the problem. The only place in greater China where the wealthy live in shoeboxes are HK and Macau, and they ain't the ones moving to Chatswood.

All those nice houses surrounding Catswood Oval to the West and South are full of rich white people who woukd blow their top if their leafy boulevards were used for parking by elements from the West! They've still got a lot of power and pull. They've actually stopped a few residential towers going up because of the impact of the local area and there is an informal height limit near Chatswood Oval on account of that precious grass not getting enough sun.

Pie in the sky yes, for sure.

The Bears aren't an NRL club. They shouldn't have a district. Nothing they say matters.

Spot on

Also spot on, if the NSWRL have supported Bears in this rubbish.

Let's be honest.. the Penns (and since they're majority owners, the club) could afford to upgrade Brookie many times over. But they don't. They know it's money down the toilet. They know 25,000 people aren't suddenly showing up every week. It's a single tenant facility in an shitty location for transport access by any method unless you happen to live within walking distance of Pittwater Rd.

The government trying to buy votes with it is their best chance, and it's a safe seat so the promises just fall through the cracks anyway.

Zero arguments from me.

I think if the club was serious about it they could move to the Moore Park precinct. There's enough people who support the Swans and the Waratahs who also come from the Beaches and also have some interest in Manly. There are enough people who follow Manly from outside the beaches to whom this would be an easier trip. We could probably extort a bit of cash out of the government. With a bit of imigination and some engagement in a decade people would get over it. It's also closer than Gosford.

It might work. Throw in a blitz into the North shore to offset the people who crack the shits about leaving Manly.

If the northern beaches tunnel happens it will improve the situation significantly. Military road can be an absolute nightmare.

Manly possibly needing to move to Moore park is another reason I’d prefer to see if he 30k and not 45k. Also fear they’ll drop the intimate mode from the stadium.

Yep, Manly have realistic options:

1) stay at brooky until the stands collapse (lets be real, no one is paying to have it upgraded)
2) Move to one of the big new Sydney stadiums
3) find a new location where they can preasure the pollies into giving them a new stadium (Gosford seems most likely given they already have the bones of a good stadium and the are a swing seat at both State and Federal level. But really, any margin electorate can be turned into porkbarreled cash; just look at how much focus WS gets each election.)

I’m just saying currently Manly choose to represent this area

When they should be aggressively gunning for this area
