The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Most cities are now aware that centralised, or very easy to access, stadiums are a big plus for sports tourism. The closer you can get to the city and where sports tourists will be staying the better. Ease of access is def a factor in deciding to travel to a city for an event.

For sure. Even me and the misses would go to more games in the city with a stadium there as it'd be easy as anything from the central coast.

A stadium over central would never happen. It would be brilliant but way more expensive and disruptive than current plans, which are already deemed excessive by the hanky head clan.

But, hypothetically, if a 70,000 seat stadium was built over central, then yes, you could knock down ANZ and put apartments there to fund the central stadium. You could also consider a boutique stadium at the site - around 25-30,000 would be great for bulldogs and souths.

I think the idea would be to do it in 10-15 years, there’s an even chance the ANZ refurbishment doesn’t go ahead. So it may not disrupt any current plans.

Idve thought the idea would be to replace Allianz, not ANZ. Not much point having two stadiums that close to each other catering to the same sport. Mid size stadium at central, and keep a refurbished ANZ for the really big games as it’s nearer the geographical centre and has parking and it’s own train line etc.

On that part I wasn't aware of, so thank you for the clarification.

Thing is it would not address the strain doing what you propose would put on the NRL's revenue though as it would not be a 1-2 year thing, it would more than likely take decades, and if interest rates should rise during the term of the lone then.... yikes

Yes, of course doing this on a bank loan would be a bad idea. What i want to see at least looked at is securitizing future events and effectively pay for it now...

What the AFL seem to have done with Docklands was to lock the GF to Melbourne for 40 years at no extra cost.

The State government take the risk and get the benefits of any growth over the life of the contract. The AFL forgo match-payments for the GF to pay off the stadium.

Basically, the government has paid the value of the stadium for 40 years of GFs. No interest involved, at worst the AFL GF grows and the find out that they sold it for a low price

It wouldn’t matter if they were close because they’d have different sizes, catering to different events.

I don't know a stadoum at central would be brilliant. Much easier for everyone to get to from various parts of the city.
Currently if a fan from the Penrith area wants to attend an NRL match, for the most part they have a what, 30-odd minute ride on public transport to the city? Add 10, 15, 20 minutes to that - possibly more in peak - that's not enticing people, no matter how 'central' you claim it to be.

The population centre of Sydney is closer to ANZ and Bankwest Stadiums - not Central station.

The place is a wasteland even if they do fix ANZ. f**k all to do before and after games

Was a new Penrith stadium part of Gus's 5 year plan? If it happens in 15 years it'll be right on schedule.

Is someone talking about taking Penrith games to this theoretical stadium above central? (Sincere question)

That would be very silly.

To me this would be a major event stadium. Concerts, SOO, NRL GF, Touring EPL teams etc.

If reports are true that a south-west Sydney team are entering the A League then the new "greater western Sydney stadium" should be built near the airport as I have previously mentioned in this thread.

The stadium can be shared by the Tigers, Panthers and the new A League team. A 25k modern all seat stadium would be perfect.

Take advantage of the new road and rail upgrades that are happening in the area.
