Or the deal?

This is the concern. If they spend a shed load on ANZ then they will want tenants there so it isnt seen as a massive white elephant. I can see Souths and Bulldogs being offered some very generous deals to stay using it as their home ground.

If a "shed load" is spent on it, it will be with the idea of making it not a white elephant, but instead a good large rectangle stadium.

Won't Wenty's direct affiliation with Parra stand in the way of that?

Maybe...

But other State Championship clubs jump between NRL affiliation all the time. I reckon half an NRL team would be more appealing than subjugation to the Eels (who i imagine would be a local rival).

It would be a very weird situation though. The Wests Ashfield Magpies and the Wentworth Magpies sharing control of Wests Tigers.

LOL and how could you (or anyone) possibly know that?
If it’s still a 70k to 75k stadium then of course it’ll only be 1/4 (say 18k) to 1/3 full (say 23k) for the vast majority of games we play there. Bulldog and Bunny crowds ain’t going to triple or even just double in anywhere near the short term. That’s just not being realistic.

If there was any way to negotiate with the new government a cheaper substitute for the ANZ upgrade, both clubs would be better served by leaving ANZ untouched and getting a new smaller Parra style stadium at Olympic Park. For less than half the $810m budgeted for ANZ they could build a 30k-32k venue. Both clubs get a more intimate proper club game sized stadium and the government gets to tout massive savings.

Leigh.

It'll still be crap 3/4 empty

Not if it is designed well...

If the acoustics are good, it can blast the crowd sound back instead of losing it in the rafters. And intimate mode (blocking out the nose bleed seats) can make small crowds feel decent and middle size crowds enormous.

But this depends on a decent rebuild. Not just a patchwork on the existing stuff

On the chances of probablibility a 75% empty stadium will feel crap, I could be wrong but I doubt it lol. Hopefully the dogs game at bankwest gets 20k plus and you can learn first hand how much better the game day experience and atmosphere is in a 20k state of the art 30k stadium compared to anz.

You seem obsessed by having smaller stadia, it's odd.

Why would they build a new "Parra style stadium" a stone's throw from the new Parra Stadium?

ANZ will need some work at some point soon - it's already 20 years old - and now that no oval sports use it, it's ripe for rectangular redevelopment. The technology in design that's already proposed for the SFS can actually help mask the atmosphere issues that bigger venues have - no reason that couldn't be implemented at ANZ if it's budget conscious.

If you where going to abanadon anz rebuild for another 30k stadium surely one somewhere geographically suitable for bulldogs and tigers to share would be the go? Souths and eels could then use bankwest and anz could host the few big event games it’s actually suitable for
