The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I don't see how. The Government has put a lot of work into that defence budget and I'm sticking up for it. You want it reduced based on a gut feeling.

Really, the NSW Government has a defence budget? That would be news to everyone, considering the States haven't had their own defence forces since 1900. Defence is an area the Commonwealth Constitution stipulates is the responsibility of the Commonwealth Government and the Commonwealth Parliament.

I call bs on it being unusable. They didn’t put in massive jumbo screens thinking the place would be shut down. And if they did, that’s a scandal in itself.

Even if you allow for that, I don’t believe in the expenditure on other stadiums Because:

A) there are very few events that wouldn’t already be held in Sydney. Every travelling show will stop here because it’s the biggest market in the country.

B) most of the events that will be held are home games for domestic sports clubs that are already being catered for with the current stadia.

C) The number of remaining things not covered in a) and b) are so limited that they probably don’t cover the cost. It’s probably 1 or 2 events a year. If that. And the appeal of the new stadium will quickly fade off- probably within less than 5 years.

BS about unusable eh? Mate even a parliamentary committee which examined the whole shebang found -

"Finding 5 - The committee is convinced that the safety and security concerns identified at the Sydney Football Stadium are of significance and require immediate attention.
Finding 6 -The committee finds that the safety and security concerns at the Sydney Football Stadium support the case to proceed with the demolition and rebuild of the stadium facility in the Moore Park precinct."

So if you doubt it, go read the report - https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/lcdocs/inquiries/2483/Final report - Sydney stadiums strategy.pdf

Did I ever make the claim that they do?

I happen to agree re: the screens, although thankfully they were repurposed and sent next door so there's no net loss there, just the labouring costs. Still scandalous but perhaps not severely so.

A) relying on other venues to hold the events by way of having one less venue diminishes the return to the Government. They don't own Stadium Australia, remember, by proxy of the SCG Trust, they do own SFS.

B) I disagree, the current stadia aren't adequate as it currently stands. Venues like Brookvale, Leichhardt etc continue to fall further behind from a lack of investment by local councils, and the existing stadia that can cope are ageing and require either upgrading or replacing.

C) Disagree about the appeal fading too. AAMI Park is entering its tenth year if I recall correctly and it remains very popular - because it is well designed and maintained and easy to access.
My share of the $700m this will cost is $300. I support 2 other people. I don't see Roosters or Waratahs fans chipping in for upgrades at Panthers stadium.
Do you understand the basics of stadium ownership? Panthers Group owns the stadium, doesn't it? That ain't the government.

Precisely. I've objected to the obscene levels of defence spending by the federal government but I accept that it happens.
Do tell of your personal experiences that support that Defence spending is obscene.

So we currently have the State Government receiving the positive flow on effects from having a stadium, without having to fork out for a development in exchange for a piddly return on investment from tickets sales. Sounds A-okay to me.

Never mind, I've confused operator and ownership. The Government does own S.A. via a nine-member board Venues NSW who also oversee McDonald Jones, WIN, Newcastle Ent Ctr and soon Bankwest (WSS). It's operated by VenuesLive who also run Optus (Perth) and Bankwest.

I'm still trying to establish what you want the SFS's future to be though? Do you hope it just sits there decaying now its beginning to be demolished? Do you want it replaced?

If Labor wins and goes through with the loan thing then the SCG Trust will have some tough decisions. Does it take on a massive loan to build a 45k stadium as planned and carry financial risk, does it take on a much lessor loan and build a smaller cheaper stadium, does it put the seats and screens back in and continue to operate as is or does it do nothing and leave Allianz to fall into disrepair, thereby forcing the Govt to act?

Have Labor said what their plans are for ANZ? Spend less or do nothing?

Given they want to do the bare minimum for SFS, my bet is they'll do absolutely nothing about ANZ.

he wants them to build a school and hospital there, that is somehow paid for by the SCG trust, while Labor pisses the money saved up against a wall

I really don't know now.

f**k it.

Spend up. Build the best f**king thing you can. Money doesn't really matter.
Good. I hope every seat in the joint is an electric recliner with beer holders in each arm.
