Guys it has more to do with their contract with SCG trust. The trust have a long term deal with Roosters, Waratahs, Sydney FC. As part of this redevelopment, they don’t want to lose 3 years worth of business. They still need content so that companies pay to advertise at their ground, so that members have content they can see etc.

There is no way in the world the Trust let the Roosters play more games at Gosford/NSO/Kogarah etc

I doubt that contract was that ironclad that it required the games to be at the SCG. For instance the Waratahs are taking 3 games on the road this season, they usually take none.

They pushed hardest for the redevelopment, why should the clubs shoulder all the loss?

The NRL, Roosters, and SCG Trust all have campaigned for this development but the Roosters are the only ones taking any hit in the interim.
Similar for Parra at ANZ.

The good news for crowd watchers is that's our last truly awful timeslot at the SCG for this year.

Other games should be helped by being on Saturday or Sunday arvo.

Sure, not iron clad. But there is no way they’re letting the Waratahs, Roosters and Sydney FC take the bulk of their games away.

Because at the end of 2-3 years of pain, they get a $700 million stadium. I would have the dragons play on Mars for 3 years if Kogarah had $700 million spent on it!

The SCG Trust contracts are notoriously difficult to budge. Apparently the Waratahs have been trying to take games out of Sydney for years but the trust kept refusing to let them go. It was only this year with concerns about overburdening the SCG turf that they let them take games away from Moore Park.

Sydney FC have taken the bulk of their games away, they can’t play at the SCG during summer.

Also you said *anymore* of the roosters games going away, not the bulk. They could easily shift more games, particularly given the state of the pitch.

I’d be surprised if the contract wasn’t venue specific. No venue, then the contract is broken.

Waratahs need to keep most of their games in the region, but it’s the perfect opportunity to take some on the road.
