Check out the gallery. Look at the state of WSS in June 2018.

Hard to tell without much further knowledge. But I reckon they are probably pretty close to on time.

The biggest issue with completing on time is that they still have another wet season to get through.
Bankwest was blessed with fine weather for a lot of the build.
In saying that, by the time the wet season rolls around, the roofing should be completed so it allows all the internal finishing to continue.
It's looking tight, but they may just get there.
They haven't even started the complete lower bowl yet.

Go to the link. Have a peek at July 2018. WSS has almost no lower bowl.

A major milestone has been reached at North Queensland Stadium with the first section of roofing installed, while the first ticket to the opening event has been sold.

It’s all happening at the new Townsville Stadium, with the venue also having officially begun the search for an inaugural naming-rights sponsor.

With the majority of the grandstand now in place, the first of the venue’s 36 unique roof trusses was carefully lifted into place recently. When complete, the roof, with its design inspired by the pandanus plant, will ensure the stadium becomes recognisable around the world.

The Queensland Premier said the complex design of the stadium’s roof had not been attempted before on such a scale.

“The horseshoe-shaped roof will cover about 75 per cent of the stadium’s 25,000 seats, all of which offer a fantastic experience for fans,” she said.

“Construction is on budget and on track for the stadium to open in time for the 2020 NRL season opener, which is a credit to the contractor and to the local workforce.”

Sir Elton John will officially open the new stadium when his touring concert hits Townsville on February 29, 2020. Tickets are on sale through the venue’s official ticketing partner, Ticketmaster, with the historic first ever ticket sold on June 25.

It was also recently announced that a new $7.4 million pedestrian bridge will be built at Reid Park, adjacent to North Queensland Stadium.

The new Reid Park Active Transport Bridge will be located 450m to the south of the new stadium and will provide pedestrian access over the railway line from Reid Park where there is car parking for 1,100 cars.

Meanwhile, local Townsville Company Mendi has been awarded the pitch works contract and will work directly with local turf farm and sporting surface specialists HG Sports Turf to install and manage the playing surface at the new stadium.

By the time the SFS and Homebush are redone we are going to have a great selection of top quality stadiums available to us as a code. The Olympics set us back, but 20 odd years later we are where we need to be.

Light rail that will move people up to Allianz Stadium. They’re very long at 67m, more or a hybrid between a metro and a light rail in terms of size. 450 passengers.

View attachment 31083

They're only that long because RMS wouldn't give them priority signalling at traffic lights. They were meant to be half the length but more than double the frequency. The double-length trams were originally only going to be reserved for major events at the SFS, SCG and Royal Randwick.

It's going to cause problems with the pedestrianized section of the city with trams that long rolling through, and I can only imagine what it'll be like at the intersections of Anzac and Dacey, and Alison and Darley during peak hour when they're rumbling across.

does anyone know if the new light rail at parramatta go past bankwest?

It doesn't go exactly past it but there's a stop that's a very short walk from it.

The Eastern Light Rails first stage (allegedly) opens in December, with the spur line to Kingsford opening early next year.

That type of length isn’t unusual around the world now. There’s even 8 car sets in Germany.

It’ll take some time for people to get used to.

Thurston to be immortalised in bronze with own statue at new North Queensland stadium

A bronze life-size version of NQ Cowboys great Johnathan Thurston will “stand watch” over a time capsule at the North Queensland Stadium, but the statue’s pose remains unknown.

The State Government has asked for expressions of interest from artists to develop a statue of Townsville NRL king Thurston.

Tender documents obtained by the Townsville Bulletin revealed the base of the statue would be mounted to include “provisions for a time capsule with the view that JT ‘stands watch’ over the capsule”.

Townsville MP Scott Stewart said it was still unknown what would be put in the time capsule.

“This is something we’ll probably talk to the community about and of course to the Cowboys and what the people of Townsville thinks should actually go into that time capsule,” he said.

“But I think it should be more than just a celebration of the stadium and Cowboys, this needs to be a celebration of North Queensland and a celebration of the people of Townsville.”

It is understood the statue will be similar to those installed outside Suncorp Stadium of Wally Lewis and Mal Meninga.

The statue will be designed to reflect an “action pose” of Thurston “reflecting his playing career” but the final pose will have to be agreed upon between the State Government and the successful designer.

It is understood the statue “must be” on site and ready for installation by January 2020, which gives the artist about six months to complete the project.

Bronze JT must be made out of materials “structurally robust” enough to withstand the weight of fans climbing on the statue, as well as all weather conditions.

It will be installed at the northern entry plaza of the North Queensland Stadium and will be about 179cm tall, the same height as Thurston.

The expression of interest stage will close at 2pm on July 22. The State Government will then make a shortlist of suppliers to move on to the tender stage.
