The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Have you been?

No.

But this is exactly what @Timbo was talking about. Your anecdotal evidence beats out an actual expert.

My point was this. The bigger you build the stadium, the more compromises need to be made. The expert confirmed exactly that. So even if you’d knocked down ANZ and rebuilt it to a 90k seat stadium, you wouldn’t be able to have an amazing lower bowl. I would prefer 70k because of that. For 90% of games only the lower bowl will be used, the Australian market isn’t the European market.

lol.

you’re the stadium expert because you’ve been there, but a guy who actually designs them gets dismissed as just an opinion...

Seriously, dude.

Do you not get sick of continually beclowning yourself in these threads?!

Come back when you’ve experienced it not just read something second hand and we’ll chat about how you found it. In my experience it was a great stadium with great viewing. Still can’t get over that they tore down the twin towers but that’s a nostalgia issue, pulling up in the tra8n and catching a glimpse of the twin towers was one of the most exciting things ever as a rugby league fan. Walking up Wembley way with the crowds towards the towers was heart pumping. Outrageous they didn’t heritage list them and rebuild them into the new stadium design.

Once again, anecdote does not equal fact.

What facts?when your discussing quality of stadium or rake of seats it’s subjective.
In my opinion, based on actually having been, Wembley is a pretty amazing stadium and viewing is great even given its size. And i’m not alone in that opinion given it makes pretty much every top ten list of best stadiums in the world.

Anyway back to ANZ, do we know how many seats are being brought closer and how many are remaining as is?

Can't believe the centrepiece of our game is being played in a rat shit stadium where the majority of the seats may as well be located in outer space, relative to the playing field.

I don't care what the government/s do, just give us a f**king stadium that fans can go to know whatever seat they get will be great to watch from.

The NRL and ARU rejected the low cost lower bowl only reconfiguration before

why are they accepting it now.

They have no choice. Politically they were outmanoeuvred.

Also the ARU preferred more money going into Moore park.

A rebuild at 1.2 billion would’ve been the best option, but the politics just became too hot. The govt needed to find savings somewhere and this was it. The NRL tried to get the govt to reduce the spend on Moore park but the political connections of the SCG trust were just too strong.

There is a trade off between the rake on the lower bowl and the capacity of the stadium

Its easy at something the size of Bankwest that has 15 rows on the bottom level. And its ok up to about 60K. At 60 you need a mid level. But its still manageable.

At 90k yikes. In the top tier you are going to be either a long way back or way high. A really steep rake on the bottom puts the top of the upper tier in the clouds. A lesser rake puts you further back.

Imagine banks west with another 2 tiers on it + a ring of corp boxes. At that rake you are going to be issued with parachutes to get out

50 - 60k is about the top of the capacity that allows everyone to be closeish. The giant stadiums have a lot of problems. Look in Aus, the AO, Marvel and Optus are perfect for their primary functions, as are Suncorp, AAMI, Bankwest, Robina. The biggest is Optus at 60k.

The MCG is a fine stadium but in the top tier you are a long long way away.

Agreed, and for club games 30-35k rectangular stadiums are perfect, anything bigger is unnecessary waste of money for most Australian cities. But for a national stadium 70k with half the seats still being as where just seems very underwhelming and lacking in any ambition, not to mention costly for hirers in lost capacity.

Borussia Dortmund is interesting 65k in all seater mode and 80k with the terrace stand activated. Even at 65k it looks a damn sight better than anz will be.

Half the seats are not “where they were”

50,000 seats will be new.

The upper decks have a reduced capacity leaving only 20,000 seats where they were.

Facts.
