When the thing's finally built and everyone's loving it, no one except a few people looking to score a political point in the next election is going to remember minor delays or typical budget blowouts.
And when it's packed out for finals, Anzac day, Socceroos games, Wallabies games, etc, no one will be wishing it's smaller.

The atmosphere at the SFS has never been a particular problem. It's not like 45k is a giant oval-field cavern like ANZ.

The anti-rebuild people are all saying it was perfectly fine before. So if it was perfectly fine before, it will be more than perfectly fine with modern facilities, functional food and beverage outlets, enough toilets, concourse areas that can actually fit crowd movement above 25% capacity, and a roof that covers the seats.

Boo hoo we're getting a state of the art facility on the doorstep of the CBD that's big enough to host finals and international sport, what a disaster.
Next we'll have the people that used to whinge that it was too hard to get to, instead whinging that the new tram takes 8 minutes to get there from central instead of 6 minutes so we never should have bothered building the thing

Yeah I don't get the hate for the fact a new stadium is getting built at Moore Park.

A world class stadium at the foot of the CBD will only be a good thing for the economy. The CBD based businesses especially will be lapping up the corporate side of it.

There is no shortage of tenants with the roosters, Sydney FC and the Waratahs already committed full time meaning it will be used year round. Add to that wallabies games, the smaller socceroo games and many other ad-hoc sports events and concerts and it is a no-brainer.

Probably because the majority of sports fans think that spending $300mill on a 35k Bankwest clone at Moore Park that is more fitting for the club games majority usage and the other $600mill going to rebuilding ANZ into the countries national 80k rectangular stadium where the big events would take place would have been a better outcome?

It's on trend to criticise any government when they blow out a budget but once it's all said and done, no one will care what the cost was.

Its less about the cost and more about the outcome and missed opportunity. A new 45k SFS and a patched up ANZ or a new 35k SFS and a brand new world class 80k big event stadium. Cost aside I think most seem to prefer the latter option. Looking at Bankwest it is hard to argue SFS needs to be anything more than that. Throw in also it seems to be for the appeasement of the SCG Trust rather than what sport needs in Sydney doesn't help.

How many games a year will need more 35k-45k capacity, (anything over 42kish would be better at ANZ) then how many sub 30k games a season would benefit from a smaller capacity? It really is hard to justify the decision.

That leaves 27k seats for the Punter.

Last time i looked old Parra stadium was 20k max tickets to the public before we remove the corporate seats.

But the same people are arguing for a similarly large amount of money for ANZ to host a similarly small number of games that reach capacity

The fact is the number of games at SFS between 30-45k range will be pretty much bang on to the number of games at ANZ that exceed 45k, so what's the difference?
Sydney needs a mid-sized premium stadium - the event demand is similar to the high capacity ones.
There needs to be a premium stadium close to the city - Sydney is a major world city and the South-East and Inner west are the highest population density regions.

This argument is ridiculous. This is as close as we'll get to Melbourne's famous sporting complex.
Has anyone ever looked at the budget? This wouldn't come close to the most offensive wastes of taxpayer money but has somehow become a major issue through clowns like Fitzbandana

Ask any Eels member whether they would prefer the new stadium over the old and there wouldn't be much disagreement.
At least now you don't have to queue for a half an hour for a beer, and the food options and toilet facilities are 21st century like.
It is a far improvement on the shit hole that was there previously.

Why does it? Why wouldn't a you beaut new national stadium suffice for all of Sydney's mid and large size events? 85% of game played at the new allianz will be sub 20k. 15-20k in a 45k stadium are never good so for a couple of events a year you are sacrificing better experiences and tv coverage in 85% of usage and spending 1/2 billion $'s unnecessarily in doing so! Still makes no sense. Be nice when its done but still ranks of a major missed opportunity to sort out Sydneys stadium needs for next 40-50 years.

Whole city? I don’t see how people in Penrith travelling an hour into one of the most tolled cities on earth to go to one of the stadiums is being serviced for.

By city do you mean Moore Park to Parramatta?
