SO ayers wont even be mentioning ANZ to Baird today ??

Is he crazy, he must really want a seat on SCG trust board ...

You got to look after your future employers. Especially with so many being well connected. Plus how else do you explain the location of the Tibby Cotter bridge. It all makes sense now, the plan has been underway for a long time.

Why would Baird engage the clubs though?

Delaying the decision might by them breathing space , but now they're about to make it right before a federal election , right next to the sitting PM's own federal seat.

Now I don't think Turnbull could lose his seat over this , but it could force him to spend valuable time trying to either defend the decision or go against it.

At the mere mention of this last year there was a huge community backlash & they quickly dropped the idea.

This could be a real shit storm.

There is so much mis information and its not helped by piss poor journalism.

Cannot believe that he would go against the clubs on this. The only winners are the SCG trust and union

Saw something in today's terrorgraph this morning at the coffee shop that expansion of spotless stadium is part of the plan for western Sydney! Are they for real? The least favourite football team in Sydney getting more handouts.

You would think they need to sell out a few games before upgrading the stadium, well at least looking likely to.

But yes they do want to expand to 35K.

It better not be part of this $1.6b

Spotless potentially needs expanding for cricket , not for AFL. But it should come well after the rectangular stadiums are done.

If CA want to keep playing the odd international in Sydney's west then I can understand why Spotless might need an upgrade. Should be last on the list though.

Baird has come out again & said the new stadium will be built on the exisiting SFS site.

So now you'll have 3 pissed off tenants..

This is such a clusterf*ck it's beyond words , this government is completely directionless

Well if your going to displace Roosters, Warraths, and Sydney FC for 3 years...

Wouldn't you want an awesome rectangular venue for them to use in the mean time, (and no not parramatta)

I dont get the roosters crying about having to move away for 3 years when they are going to get a world class stadium.

As if they would move to ANZ full time.

Because the increase in business won't be matched by the loss of moving.

SFS is already a very good stadium for sight lines , there will be minimum benefit between a $400m upgrade & a $800m rebuild.

That's what they're looking at. It's not a difference between the current stadium & a new stadium.

$400m gets you (going off their 2013 plan)

A roof
New corporate facilities
New bars
New change rooms
New seats
Improved lower bowl

Plus likely much more

During the renovations of BC Place Stadium in Vancouver for the Winter Olympics, part of the construction cost was set aside for a temporary stadium that seated about 20,000. They literally built it in a park using the kind of scaffolding grandstands you see at motor racing and other events that don't require permanent stands, as well as parts of the old stadium that weren't going to be recycled (such as the video board). It only cost about $10 million, took just three months to build and as a temporary venue apparently worked just fine.

Could something like this be an option if constructed on Moore Park West (far side of the Tibby Cotter Bridege on ANZAC Parade) for the duration of the construction? The below image is of the temporary stadium:

It's also not dissimilar to the 18,000 seat stadium they built in Christchurch after the earthquake.

If it was only for a couple of seasons surely it would work?

Considering they went thru this when the SFS was built they would have some idea what they are talking about and have a fairly good idea what the preferences of their season ticket holders are.
