surely they’d have database of anyone who bought a ticket to a Souths game in the last three years? I’m always surprised by how little direct marketing using this type of consumer data is done by the clubs or the nrl. I’ve been to pretty much every RL game in Perth in last ten years yet never get any direct marketing from nrl or clubs who bring games here, beyond storm who have my details from membership.
Lucky you, I get heaps of emails from those scummy Eels and Manly clubs, I have even received Eels membership brochures in the mail.

With the host of Women’s football 2023 World Cup due to be announced this week, if Australia were to win (its now a 2-horse race as Japan has pulled out I’ve read) - surely this puts emphasis on getting the Moore Park stadium up and running ASAP?

I could see how pool rounds would be spread around grounds like bankwest, AAMI, Bruce, Eden Park etc. but big games like Australian pool and semis would need to be at bigger grounds I’d have thought.. and the final ?? (Surely not the frigging MCG..).

Hopefully we get the nod. If not.. Moore Park may drag on a bit too much longer..

I just came here to post about this and saw your post, so quoted it.

Firstly, Moore Park will be complete before 2023.
Secondly, the MCG has not been put up as a venue in the Woman's World Cup bid. I don't think that will change as FIFA don't like oval grounds so much, hence why it wasn't included in our bid.
Thirdly, if we do happen to win the bid, the final will no doubt be held at ANZ - which has become the national stadium for football over the past 20 years. All major Socceroos matches are played there these days.

What might be good about this possible successful bid is a fast tracking (turnaround from the state govt) of the ANZ upgrade.
What I was also wondering is whether this could be of great benefit to RL, as some of our rectangular stadiums might get upgrades as well. Newcastle perhaps to complete their re-build comes first to mind. They've had great crowds there for Matilda's matches before.
Canberra to possibly get their inner city stadium? They had great crowds during the 2015 Asian Cup.

Let's not kid ourselves here. This would be a huge event, far bigger than the Woman's T20 World Cup earlier this year. The NRL could really benefit from this with state and federal funding for stadiums for the event.

Anyway, we'll know on Friday morning. Knowing FIFA, the drug lords of Columbia will have the final say and we'll all be left disappointed at the opportunities missed.

Listening to highlights of PVL he is very confident about a deal for "suburban grounds". I think he already knows, will be interesting to see the choices they come up with. IMO.

- Brookvale: Plans already in place with work beginning on new centre/grandstand on the northern end. Upgrade, Manly 11 games, Waratahs 2-?, Mariners 2-?, concerts...
- Panthers: Likely too, maybe a northern stand connected with a new eastern stand. Don't think the southern end can be upgraded. Penrith 11 games, Matilda's games...
- Jubilee: Its been mentioned but with the Sharks confirming that they won't move from Shark Park. I don't see much value for a new build. St George 5-6 games, Sydney Fc ?
- Liverpool: One from left field, space is there the Bulldogs own 84 memorial ave. It's a Large parcel of land. Liverpool council has pushed for a stadium at the same location previously. Basically the Oasis project revisited. Any locals care to comment about the parking in area? Not a far walk from Liverpool station with more going on around it than Luemeuh.
Bulldogs 11 games, Wests Tigers ?
Could be ideal location for a 20k-23k minni Bankwest.
- Nominal upgrades to LO, Jubilee and Shark park.

Sydney:
Manly - Brookvale new
Penrith - Panthers stadium new
Roosters - SFS new
Souths - SFS new
Sharks - Shark park upgraded, in current plan has a lot more corporate's in western stand.
St George - Jubilee & WIN, Jubilee upgraded.
Eels - Bankwest
Bulldogs - Liverpool, not far from Bulldogs territory same train and close on freeway. Would doggies fans prefer Liverpool to ANZ or Bankwest ? 11-12 games Liverpool
Wests Tigers - Liverpool 8 games, LO 4 games

The more I think about it, the more I I like Liverpool as an option for Canterbury and Wests.

I’m thinking something in the 18-22k range, all seat. They could each play 8-9 home games a year there and play their bigger Western Sydney derbies and finals matches at Bankwest.

Something with a design like St. Helens stadium, or some of the soccer stadiums they’ve built in the US.

SFS Redevelopment Update
Author: Sydney Roosters
Timestamp: Tue 23 Jun 2020, 10:16 AM

The Sydney Football Stadium is boosting the NSW economic recovery by securing jobs and keeping our State’s construction pipeline delivering during COVID-19.

Acting Minister for Sport, Geoff Lee inspected the SFS last month as the start of piling works this week marks a major milestone for the project.

“Over 1500 support piles are going into the ground to form a strong foundation for the new state-of-the-art Sydney Football Stadium,” Mr Lee said.

“NSW already has the country’s biggest infrastructure program and projects like this ensure we continue to deliver jobs and stimulate the economy.”

Over the next two years, the project will create over 800 jobs and inject hundreds of millions into the NSW economy.

John Holland commenced stage two works in December 2019 and the stadium remains on schedule to be ready to host the 2022 NRL Grand Final.

“We want NSW to have the best stadiums in the country and this will be a world-class venue with first-class facilities putting fans closer to the action with the best sightlines,” said Mr Lee.

“The new Sydney Football Stadium will seat all 42,500 fans undercover to guarantee a fantastic spectator experience.

“Fans will never have to miss a minute of the action, with the open concourse allowing views of the field of play from the food and beverage outlets.”

A total of 1539 piles will be drilled up to 33 metres in the ground to support the stadium structure. The remainder of 2020 will see continued bulk earthworks and piling, as well as the construction of the stadium’s basement.

I know it doesn't say much, but at least it says it is on schedule.

Great stuff, cheers for the info. Particularly pleased that the MCG isn't in the equation - (or at least until after we win it, and those self-indulgent folk weigh in on why the MCG is the best ground in the universe and the only one that should host a final...)

Football (Soccer) and Rugby league can easily co-habit given the nature of the grounds, while there's rarely any animosity between the two sports that I've seen, professionally or otherwise - apart from here in the Fight Club. They generally "get on". So yes I see benefits for both sports in a unified approach to upgrading existing, and building new stadiums which both can use.

I would think (hope!) that given the success of the 2000 Olympics, and hosting World cup events like Union and Cricket previously, this gives us a huge advantage over Colombia. But then again.... yes..... Money and influence can be the biggest factors over un-rivalled experience..

The MCG could never be used for a World Cup match. Ditto for any other cricket ground. Its one of the reasons our previous World Cup bid was such a failure. FIFA don't compromise for anyone.. no matter what Victorians will tell you.

Liverpool may sound good in theory but it's never gonna happen. Any investment in stadia for the south west will be for Campbelltown. Its where the new A-League team is based and a bigger growth area.

One small thing, the 2023 FIFA Women's World cup is scheduled for 10 July 2023 to 20 August 2023. IIRC, one of FIFA's demands is that during that period venues they use can't be used by anyone else.

If that is the case, imagine the disruption for the other sporting codes.

Yeah it will be a disruption, but no where near the disruption of this year. Here are the venues for the women's world cup:

ANZ
SFS
Suncorp
AAMI Park
McDonald Jones Stadium
Perth Oval- HBF Park
York Park
Hindmarsh
Eden Park
Wellington
Dunedin
Waikato
Christchurch

So for the NRL, it will effect five grounds: Suncorp, AAMI, SFS, ANZ and Newcastle.

Interesting. Makes sense though given they'd want a pristine surface, without ghosted "lines" from other sports. They also have all the customised signage up throughout each ground.

So who would have control over the scheduling / location of matches?

I'd have thought FIFA do the scheduling while the FFA etc manage the ground selection (as long as it meets criteria etc).

I'd think they'd manouvre the ground used to fit in with the schedule - ie early pool games would be at grounds like Gosford, WIN, AAMI, NIB stadiums etc - and after last matches played their they re-open to the "usual" teams who play there. The bigger ones the likes of Bankwest, Suncorp, Homebush would be more interesting - Assume Australian matches would be played there in the pool, semi's, final etc. So they'd be out of commission for the whole tournament by those rules as I understand it.

So the NRL likely would bring Origin ahead. The Broncos could play out of the old ANZ stadium?? Unsure where Parra and the Dogs might go...

Ahh right - didnt know these. Cheers.

BTW where is "York Park"??

At the risk of a Jason Smith moment, never heard of the f***er..

Oh - also wonder how these stadiums will be renamed for the WC - ie those that are sponsored...

York Park is in Launceston. The disappointing part of the bid is the lack of a rectangular venue in Tassie. The stadiums will be named like Melbourne rectangular stadium, Stadium Australia, Newcastle Stadium, Brisbane Stadium etc.

"Melbourne rectangular stadium" haha!!

But yeah I thought something like that would happen. And just looked up York Park - gee wonder why that got a run.... basically an AFL oval.

I'd hope Hindmarsh stadium might get an upgrade.... It's a little cracker of a ground where every seat has a great view, but could use some roofing in parts. Holds about 13-15k... but an upgrade could greatly help the cause (some might say "lost cause") to ... Bring Back the Rams!

ANZ will become Stadium Australia, Allianz will become Sydney Football Stadium, Suncorp will become Lang Park, AAMI Park will be Melbourne Rectangular Stadium etc....

Also, Bankwest isn't a part of the bid.

Yeah cheers - Steel Saints also replied similar. Very surprised Bankwest isnt part of the bid - it's the most modern, and arguably the best, stadium in the country..
