Well we got what most of us wanted, a purpose built 75k rectangular stadium, basically in the middle of greater Sydney...

When it is built can we please turn up... this time

Making it a viewer-friendly venue is the main issue being fixed plus talk of adding more bars/restaurants turning it into an entertainment destination will certainly help. We won't have any excuses.

That simply can't be helped when you want to seat 75K. Maybe they can strap the supporters to their seats and make the stands vertical?

you need to scroll back and work out what they are going to do.

they are leaving the roof structure, knocking down the interior and rebuilding the entire interior to turn it into a 75000 AAMI park / Lang Park. It will be new.

how can they do this. the roof at ANZ is supported by the arches on each side. it isnt really held up by the stands.

and yes if you are at the back of the top deck of any 75000 seat stadium you are going to be a fair way away

No, that is completely wrong.

They are re-building basically everything except the shell. So ALL tiers will be re-built. Seats will be something like 45m closer to the action.

ALL Seating will be rebuilt, incl the top decks
ANZ basically will be leveled leaving the roof structure and a shell
It will be a true 75k rectangular stadium
I really dont know what more you can ask

Can't help but find it funny every other code wants nothing to do with Homebush but the NRL is pushing more games out there.

wrong. the FFA want a rectangular venue at Olympic Park over a rebuilt SFS too.

your 'every other code' is just rugby union. they'll never fill 75k except for a Bledisloe, and their base is Eastern Suburbs and North Shore anyway same as the Swans.

Rugby League and Football have their heartland very much across the whole of the metropolitan.

I heard a guy on the radio yesterday saying how great a new stadium at the SFS site would be because the new light rail would go past.

I then remember some anti light rail person saying the capacity is only 2,900 people per hour on the new light rail. Doesn't seem like anywhere near the capacity needed for a 55,000 people stadium if you want to get them out quickly after an event.

I have been to many sporting events in Sydney it is far easier to get in and out of Hombush than it is at Moore Park especially on a week night. Heavy rail and train stations are what is needed to move people quickly
.

Homebush was designed to accommodate 100k visitors on any given day...

Add the Parra light rail for people looking to hang out (get a bit smashed) in Parra beforehand and the inevitable development of the precinct itself, and homebush will be a f*cking amazing day out.

The ARU is fine with ANZ being the premier stadium as they only want to play Bledisloes there, and any potential future World Cup finals. They've already moved all non-Bledisloe internationals back to Moore Park. There will be no objection on their part.

It does pose an interesting question as to where the big matches will be during the re-build. Origin will almost certainly revert to Allianz, but the Grand Final? Suncorp seems obvious - I'm not so sure. The Victorian government has never seen a sporting event that they don't want to steal from another state. If they offer big cash to take the GF to the MCG for a year or two and if they offer to fund a week of festivities like they AFL have then it will be hard for the NRL to say no.

the last piece in the puzzle will be a rail extension to the south from strathfield to hurstville.

this wouldn't be just for the benefit of attending events at Olympic Park, but for the effective function of the metropolitan generally. the north connection from strathfield to hornsby is already there. get the south connection built and ease the congestion on the A3 thoroughfare which is clogged to the shizenhausen because there is no rail link south of strathfield.

the metropolitan needs efficient rail service which doesn't require a trip to Redfern/Central from one part of it, to get to another.

How many years will ANZ be out of action ?

Let's say they start the re-build the day after the grand final - you'd have to imagine it'd be out of action the entire following season, possibly two or even three.

This would be a tricky re-build as the demolition of the existing seating bowl has to be done very carefully so as to not damage the shell of the stadium. You won't just be able to blow the whole thing up.

They're not going to do a staged rebuild so minor games could be played?
