I was worried there for a minute...

For the SFS, they basically need a decent roof and a few touch ups of amenities. Im glad ANZ got the funding, it was by far the better option for many, many reasons.

I wonder if another small stadium out West (Liverpool or Blacktown?) is still on the cards. It was in the original announcement back yonks ago, but i havent heard it referenced since.

I think you are looking at at least 20 to 30 years for another western sydney stadium. The current plan is going to take 10 years to implement.

Now we all get to experience the utter devastation when they somehow manage to f**k the redesign up at the last minute to keep AFL happy

They are doing that mate, easy access from Central.

http://www.sydneylightrail.transport.nsw.gov.au/information/maps

I heard a guy on the radio yesterday saying how great a new stadium at the SFS site would be because the new light rail would go past.

I then remember some anti light rail person saying the capacity is only 2,900 people per hour on the new light rail. Doesn't seem like anywhere near the capacity needed for a 55,000 people stadium if you want to get them out quickly after an event.

I have been to many sporting events in Sydney it is far easier to get in and out of Hombush than it is at Moore Park especially on a week night. Heavy rail and train stations are what is needed to move people quickly.

Pretty sure thats not correct. They def can put on extra services for special events. Not sure of capacity per hour though.

What's the deal with the video attached to the SMH article, talking about the Moore Park plan (from 2013). It talks about developing Moore Park East to include "new training fields for:
- cricket
- football
- rugby union
- rugby league; and
- soccer"

Was this script written by a Victorian, by any chance?

Sfs just needs some new seats and it'll look like million bucks again

It needs a bit more than that, but certainly not a rebuild.

Anyway, it won't get anything after the inevitable cost blowout at Parra and Olympic Park. This state is f**ked when it comes to construction projects. Half of the allocated funds will be spent before a sod of soil is turned over with consultants raking it in.

The AFL have a way of charming NSW state politicians NRL execs can't.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Showgrounds get more allocated funds before the SFS does, particularly with the increasing popularity of Big Bash T20.

Big bash/ GWS provides 14 games a year about 240k patrons

Roosters/Tahs/Syd fc provides over 30 games. over 700k patrons

Highly unlikely they would use Alliance funds to fund Spotless.

Especially as part of the deal to get the funding for Parramatta, ANZ and Allianz was that the NRL and its clubs have to guarantee to play a set number of games at those 3 stadiums or otherwise the Government won't fund them. Can you imagine the uproar if, at the last minute, they divert funds to Spotless?!

Can't help but find it funny every other code wants nothing to do with Homebush but the NRL is pushing more games out there.

While I agree that the right decisions have been made, this has always been a concern. If the SFS gets any money, I hope they prioritise a weather proof roof over anything else.
