They should use the 8,000 seats that they will be removing from ANZ and put them at brookvale oval.

Still an improvement...

Because its the only one people here care about...

I don't understand we play on the same field, every good upgrade we get; they get. The new and improved ANZ will benefit the Socceroos as well as us, Wanderers get a bigger Parra Stadium and Sydney FC along with the other clubs don't have to move from the SFS.

Its reality mr hill. Approx 100 games of elite rugby league are played in the metro region each year. Dwarfing the FFA and ARU contiburtion combined, so rightfully so the NSW premier sough primary input from the states primary sport.

And another everybody forgets that the NRL fills moore park on ANZAC day

No surprise, the us vs them mentality from football media/fans it's always about them, we want this, we deserve it, etc they need a reality check of where they stand in the sporting landscape. If the shoe was on the other foot, football fans/media would be gloating and do the usual 'world game', soon to be no.1 code rhetoric they usually do.

Oh don't worry that was in a few of the comments, "we going to be number 1 code in Aus despite only 30-40k watching" FFS they couldn't manage even 200k for a final featuring their most supported team.

What's the thinking about putting a retractable roof on ANZ? I understand having all seats undercover but doesn't it seem a bit of a waste of money to have a covered pitch in Sydney?

it's not a waste of money. it rains quite a bit in sydney. fans won't have to worry about getting wet at the game, which means clubs who play there may get a bit of an increase to their home attendance averages

This is nonsense. Webster is an excellent Rugby League writer, possibly the best going around at the moment.
While I don't agree with his assessment, I don't begrudge him having a different opinion.

There are clear benefits to Sydney as a city having a state of the art CBD stadium. This is an undeniable fact. The debate is around whether it should be a priority over the other options, and the requirements to get it done - we fans and the clubs mostly agree that ANZ needs it more.

Personally I think it's a pity that we can't have both somehow

the sfs doesn't need to have a larger capacity though. it just needs a bit of fixing up and a retractable roof

Rain doesn't always fall straight down so you would sometimes get wet in the first set of rows (i was out there for a state of origin and was soaked) plus the playing area is also used for concerts so they can close the roof and the audience would stay dry.

the wwe should have an episode of raw at the new anz stadium! you know it makes sense! :)

Talk about lipstick on a pig

A 4000 seat stadium that covers the hill

Hahah nice one manly

Capacity of the ground will be about 11k by then be like a redfern training ground

Why don't manly commit to one game at a big stadium a year for now

Promote the shit out of it try something

Hell get Hugh Jackman to serenade the crowd

They have, in Perth lol.

Simon Hill. What a goon.

Some of these soccer clowns in Australia still can't get used to the fact that their code is just another sport in Australia. It's not the be-all like it is in other countries.

He complains that Sydney league venues have been given cash over the years for ground upgrades. That's because there are 9 or so teams in the Sydney region that have averaged crowds of over 10k for about the last 30 years. How many soccer teams based in Sydney average over 10k. 2???

Hill is an idiot. The soccer benefit from stadium upgrades anyway.

Wanderers ground = upgrade.

Sydney FC = happy to keep Allianz as is.

ANZ now being reconfigured into an awesome place to watch big soccer games.

There are no other soccer teams in Sydney worth worrying about Simon.

Give over if the games attracted a 1000 extra people every time it rains (which i think is an over estimation) it would take decades for the gate recipts to cover the cost of putting a roof over the entire place. I can't think of a single EPL ground that has a covered pitch and it rains 367 days a sodding year.
Yet the grounds run at something like 95% capacity as a league. Us humans have this thing called skin which is waterproof and doesn't cost millions. If people are so concerned about getting a little damp they won't want to walk from the train station/car park getting wet either.

Sydney gets 30 more rainy days a year than London, plus twice the annual rain fall.

However, Sydney also gets far more sunshine hours.

Don't forget Penrith.

I must say I get more than a little frustrated when I hear commentators saying the new stadium developments at Parramatta and Homebush are a great result for western Sydney.
People who say these things really have no idea about where western Sydney ends and where the real west begins.

I grew up in the west; I was born in Tempe. But like many young couples at that time my parents bought a block of land at Merrylands in Sydney's west to build a new home and raise their family.

In those days Parramatta was the west. Most people living in the city areas think that anything west of Anzac Parade is the west. Ashfield used to be considered the west. It's not the west any more.

I no longer see Parramatta as being the west. Parramatta is now the centre of Sydney. There is a new west, a Greater West, developing at an extraordinary rate beyond the Hills district to the north-west, Liverpool to the south-west, and Blacktown to the direct west. This New West is the fastest growing area in the country.
What is becoming increasingly obvious as a is that people from the growth areas surrounding Penrith are still having to travel east for their employment and entertainment.

Penrith is at the centre of this new western corridor. Plans are well under way for this city to develop over the next decade to provide the necessary quantity and quality of housing and urban living accommodation, lifestyle precincts, entertainment hubs and the very best of sporting facilities for the sport loving residents in and around these areas.

Central to all of this will be an urgently needed upgrade of Pepper Stadium. The NSW government has already flagged that funds will eventually be provided for a fourth stadium development in the greater western area.

We certainly hope they still are working towards that end.

He just cannot help but be self-serving...

If he was working for Wests, im sure Campbeltown would be the "true west" and im sure he'd say the same about Townsville if he thought it might get him the stadium he wanted.

Good on him for advocating for his interest, but he needs to acknowledge that it is HIS interest, not some wider true everyone else is just too thick to understand. If Penrith Stadium did get the redevelopment, it would still have only the one tenant and it would still be a small outer-suburb.

If the best argument he can come up with is "Parra is halfway between the CBD and Penrith, therefore it isnt WEST..." I would counter by saying Penrith is halfway between the CBD and Duckmaloi, why not have the stadium out there in the "REAL west"??

Hell, forget where the people are. Put it out in Broken Hill; the REEEEEEEEEEEAL west........

Er, he did include Campbeltown in his description of the real west.

Nothing he said isn't true. He didn't even ask for Penrith to get upgrades right now, he's been totally supportive of the current plan, with the understanding than Penrith will be in line for future investment.

Sometimes you just like bitching.

Goulds obvious self interest aside he is right about Todd Greenberg trying to claim the outcome was all his doing. Funny, he has been silent about the Bunker lately.

You don't understand Australian rain then.

Sydney = 1200mm

London = 600mm

Rain in the UK is typically light , rain in Sydney comes down much harder.

Plus it's not just for footy , it's for concerts & other events that require weather certainty.
