it really isnt, one of the reasons I couldnt get into it when I first arrived was that once the ball goes over half way you are so far away if behind the opposite sticks you end up watching most of it on the big screen!
There are shit seats at AFL just like any other sport.

When people say AFL is better to watch live than TV they are referring to the fact there is a lot happening off the ball or more accurately out of the view of the camera. That is in contrast to rugby league where at any given time you can see all players apart from the defending fullback on the main camera view.

I give up trying to get a sane answer from Sydney RL fans. They contradict themselves trying to convince us that their small crowds at their dilapidated suburban grounds are good while denigrating big crowds for AwFuL games at the SCG and Donkeys games at Lang Park. One of them just said Bulldogs fans travel to the SCG to watch the Swans. But apparently we need small grounds all over Sydney because they won't travel to big grounds that aren't shit holes.

If they're willing to travel to watch The Swans at a world class venue but won't go far to see their NRL team play at one then maybe it's not really an RL city.
I get where you are coming from, I really do and I am a fan of a world class centralised stadium model but you also have to understand the communities you are talking about.

I have spent a good chunk of my life living in the shire and I can tell you the locals who are born and bred don't like leaving... for any reason. As far as they are concerned they are their own self sustained community and there is absolutely no reason to leave other than work nor would anyone in their right mind want to leave. For example, people living between Menai and Sylvania would find it just as easy to get to Kogarah as Woolooware for footy depending on traffic however one is in the shire and one is not and you just don't leave the shire.

That's just the culture in the area so I don't think the sharks moving to the CBD would ever work. If given financial incentives I could see them having 2-3 games a year at the SFS against the bigger drawing Sydney teams.

We did try that in 1997 during Super League and it flopped.

The first home game against Canberra at the SFS had three men and a dog in the stands for want of a better phrase.

I was supposed to go that night (was 12 years old at the time) but didn't as my dad was sick with the flu on the morning of the game.

As you stated above, people from the Shire generally don't leave and don't want to leave the area.

I've always said had I been able to get work in the area and not get lumped with travelling to the city or North Sydney for most of my working life I would've found leaving for SA harder than I did.

the first SL game at the sfs had 22,683 people at it, according to rugby league project.

whether the people of the shire leave etc, may become an irrelevance if the corporate dollars (sponsorship and corporate tickets) dictate where a team plays.

it will come down to the bottom line.

No wonder people refer to the locals as "Hobbits" then :p

I've been a season ticket holder for along time but don't live in the area. And I'm ok with them moving to a new fancy stadium but unless the incentives out weigh the lack of season ticket holders we'll get, at least for a while it's not going to be worth it.

Going to Kogarah was actually easy for me but it's an awful stadium. Oval stadiums usually are for league but spending money on that if the Sharks won't commit and Dragons will only play 6 games is why it's never going to happen.

Also who the fug goes to an NRL match and the internet is a decision factor ? f**kin lol. You're there to watch the game, if you need to post a Tik Tok video use your own damn data.

I’d be surprised if it ever happens RCB…. The leagues club and the precinct are being set up to cater for the game day experience. Sharks need the game days to introduce the casual fans to what the new club and precinct has to offer. If we’re lucky enough to get a grant for the ground happy days…. If not I’m hearing the plan B will include some nice tweaks to improve the experience for the patrons regardless.

Um, kids? You know not all of them are engaged in the game. Especially before the game even starts. At times you want them to be entertained, and ipads/internet are the go to option these days.

Wives too, not all females are there to watch the game or are involved in participation, most are happy to come to the game with the family, have a few bevies and watch the kids run around, while rusted on dad is yellin obscenities at the rival fans/players and/or referees

I think that applies to most of Sydney tbh cos it’s a pain in the arse getting in and out of places due to traffic, poor public transport and poor planning from the very beginning.
Poor public transport has been a blight on every capital city in this country.

Don't start me on the rail network down here.

1980's diesel trains are still predominantly running on suburban rail tracks here.

Maybe RL clubs need to copy the Adelaide Oval's Village Green set up. SACA members have access to the grass area out the back for women to drinks Pimms and the Barossa's finest wine while their hubby watches the cricket.

You've got full banana like GROTD and GroundZero.

You have completely missed the point of what I was getting at.

Why do you think the Adelaide Oval Members waitlist is so long?

It's so people can join to get into the Village Green.
