When kick off times are the same how will they make it more family friendly? And if you think TV are just going to allow the NRL to do what they like then you are pretty naive and must be new to the game. Friday 6pm is better for families? Maybe unemployed ones.

Expansion is dead, won't happen in the next TV deal cycle so you can stop throwing out unrealistic hypotheticals.

But keep positive eh?

The kick of times are not the same FFS.One is changed to an earlier time with Saturday following.
There is school on the next day after Monday 7pm start.ch9 andFoxtel control the current scheduling meaning at least the NRL and the clubs to a lesser extent would have input to which they are better suited.
The TV stations got what they wanted 9 and Foxtel re the number of games, the NRL got the scheduling control, which you even noted:roll:

New to the game  I've been following this game before you invaded this planet. Had a cousin who played for the Tigers .

I've stated Friday is not ideal, but it is better than a Monday night, and better chance for kids/families with an earlier time slot .

Expansion is not on their(NRL) radar at present, not dead.No one knows the lie of the land in 5 years.Of course you know what is going on ,you are the Rebecca Wilson of the west.;-)

I'm glad you don't run a business, just splash money around you don't have.

The second problem is not the facilities but the expensive and poor quality foid and drink at these places. Nothing to do with the seating or having a roof. Homebush is a poor design for footy Nothing short of demolition will ever fix that.

](*,)

Demolition is effectively what they're doing , look at the plans.

I've seen the website. They are claiming substantial changes and that seats will be steeper & closer. Good on them if they get it right. Feels a lot like an example of decisions made on the sunk cost fallacy.

I don't see any reason to doubt them , the govt has committed funds on the premise of making it a proper rectangular venue.

Sunk costs absolutely apply here because the roof is a seperate structure to the main stands , they do not rely upon each other at all. Foundations are another extremely costly part of development , much of that can be re-used.

And with control of fixtures and removal of Monday nights and Fridays now in at 6pm ,the NRL will be better positioned to place a schedule that is more family friendly than it currently is.
Monday nights is a sh*t for families.Friday night 6pm(whilst not ideal) is at least a little better for families with no school next day.
For example there could be more Warriors games on a 6pm Friday slot in NZ (8pm here) or Broncos games 6pm or Storm.
ATM the Tv stations dictate scheduling all the flipping time.

And who knows down the line with a Perth team and a 2nd Brisbane side just what they could do.
Your negativity is all encompassing.

There won't be any 6pm Friday games in SE-QLD without a legislative change - Stadiums Queensland cannot legally take bookings for Suncorp or CBus Stadium as the public transport network doesn't have the capacity for dedicated Stadium services during peak hours.

Suncorp Stadium can?t legally host 6pm Friday night game
November 12, 2015 7:00pm
PAUL MALONE

PROPOSED NRL games scheduled for Suncorp Stadium at 6pm on Friday night are not just unpopular ? they?re illegal.

Stadium management say they cannot lawfully take a booking for the new timeslot being put forward as part of Fox Sports? new broadcast deal because Suncorp requires full public transport capacity under the conditions of the ground?s development application.

Effectively, the state government will not allow 35,000 Broncos fans arriving by public transport on a Friday night as the CBD is emptying at peak hour for the weekend.

A letter explaining this was sent to the NRL on Thursday by stadium general manager Alan Graham.

Stadiums Queensland advised the NRL that games in the timeslot would not be able to be played at either Suncorp Stadium or Gold Coast?s Cbus Super Stadium.

The 6pm kickoffs, which would probably become 5pm during daylight saving periods in NSW, would not permit the number of dedicated train and bus services to move enough people into Broncos home games, who have averaged about 33,000 for each of the past two seasons.

?There are genuine concerns about this potential impact on patrons, the ability of Suncorp Stadium, Cbus Super Stadium and (Townsville?s) 1300SMILES Stadium to service patrons, the impact on hirers and also the heightened pressures on transport services,?? a Stadiums Queensland spokesman said.

While Channel 9 would want most Broncos home games for one of its Thursday or Friday night telecasts during the next rights period, the NRL insisted in August that it had taken back from Nine the right to schedule its own fixture list.

Graham said Suncorp Stadium events were obligated to be staged at times when a public transport plan can be effectively put in place, with tickets carrying a right to free public transport travel.

?It makes it difficult to put the event on legally otherwise,?? he said.

?The transport operators are telling us of their ongoing commitment to post-school and peak-hour commuters.

?We have pointed out (to the NRL) what all the practicalities and the legal circumstances are which we are required to have so they can make an informed decision on this.

?For a Friday night game, 85 to 90 per cent of people come by public transport. If you can?t provide public transport you can?t get the spectators here. ??

Like the three Queensland clubs, Stadiums Queensland and Graham say they know about plans for the timeslot only what they have read in the press.

These reports spoke of the 6pm matches for proposed Fox Sports telecasts being played in Brisbane, Auckland and Townsville ? but not Sydney.

?We have been in touch with (Broncos CEO) Paul White because it?s important they know what our view is,?? Graham said.

As well as the NRL clubs having flagged seeking compensation from the NRL if the new timeslot is introduced, stadiums and contracted caterers may also want compensation from the NRL.

The SQ spokesman said a 6pm kick-off at any of the three NRL venues in Queensland would ?actively discourage patrons from attending??.

?Even in Townsville, there is still a reliance on the a shuttle bus services to get Cowboy fans to the venue from the CBD and other parts of the city,? he said.

?Stadiums Queensland has let the NRL know of the issues this proposal will create at the three venues (Suncorp Stadium, Cbus Super Stadium and 1300SMILES Stadium) and subsequent impacts on hirers.??

Good they will still probably get Friday 8pm.That'll mean the NRL would have to get more input from the other clubs for the earlier time slot e.g. Storm and Warriors 8pm their time.
Look I agree it's not an ideal time slot, but it craps over Monday nights.

6pm Friday is worse than Thursday night game. Who gets home in time to get changed and get out to a stadium before kickoff?

First experience of Suncorp on Saturday night. Obviously a fantastic ground but was a nightmare to get out of and away from after the game.

You're lucky that the game was over at HT.
If it was a tight one & everyone stayed(crowds were pouring out with 15 min to go on SAT)
Then it is a lot worse .
From top tier it can take 45min - 1hr just to get out & up to Milton RD .station .

Been twice, its a fantastic stadium...just wish they could make it abit bigger..

Could "safe standing/rail seats" be a option for the lower bowl behind the goals ? That could push capacity upto 60,000

Something similar to this is being put in at the northern end of the new parramatta stadium fwiw.

That is such a cool idea...

You would get better atmosphere there than anywhere else in the studium.

I think the best we're looking at is a 10-15% increase going off other cities experiences. (Suncorp , Melbourne)

Perhaps a roof might be able to push it to a 20% increase.

Anything more than that in the short term is fairytale stuff.

I think that is fair
Better viewing should bring in a few extra that don't like the current layout
Better shelter should mean a rain affected crowds are closer to 10k rather than 8k

Would need a transport upgrade such as the Parramatta light rail to get any bigger increase

Read it carefully. My two examples Storm who obviously play in Melbourne ,then 6pm so be it.Warriors can play 6pm their time 8pm our time.I do trust that clarifies it for you.

Perhaps you should relocate to NZ,then you can be two hours ahead of us.
