Intrigued to see how it differs from Parra and Townsville in design. Also how big of an impact it will have on crowds.
It will give them every opportunity to grow their active fanbase. If they take it or not will be on them. For too long we've just relied on winning games to boost crowds, with quality stadia with spare capacity there is no excuses anymore for not having a very active fan engagement strategy.

Great news for the Panthers and to see another new quality stadium in Sydney. If we can get another new stadium out of this money then 4 brand new state of the art stadiums is a pretty good outcome.
They're still 20 years behind Queensland's infrastructure.

Parramatta, Penrith and SFS is all they need. One's built. One's getting built. One's planned to be built.

Stadium Australia doesn't really need to be refurbished. Just use it to play games that draw more than 50k. So things like Origin, GF and major soccer games.

Manly, Cronulla, St George, Sydney and South Sydney can use SFS. Manly can always take half their games to Gosford. st George can take half of their games to Wollongong. So that's 48 games at SFS.

Canterbury, Parramatta and Wests can play at Parramatta Stadium. 36 games in total.

Penrith to play 12 games at Penrith Football Stadium. Maybe look at putting an A-League or Super Rugby team there.

Maybe Macarthur will move there and rebrand if their current pathetic crowds continue?
Penrith should take over the club and rebrand it the Penrith Panthers. All those kids who play soccer in Western Sydney would then be under their radar. The ones who are good athletes can be encouraged to take up rugby league when they're teenagers.

That'd be a lot of investment for not much return. Its not like the Panthers region is short of kids playing RL.

Manly fans have been dealing with their own home ground and travel since 1947.

The Dolphins are a new team with new supporters who will have to adapt to the situation.

If you can't see how these two things are different I don't know what to tell you.

The clubs in Sydney have loyalty largely around where people live. A northern beaches team playing the middle of the eastern suburbs? Ridiculous...
One advantage in Brisbane is that there are a large chunk of Dolphins (Redcliffe Dolphins - QRL) fans that probably also support an NRL team (not necessarily Broncos but there will be a cross-over). Because we've only ever had one team, we are used to travelling from all corners of SEQ to go to Suncorp.

Its not their ground so will Panthers get no benefit from any other tenants. Macarthur have been bought recently by someone else, cant see them surviving on crowds of 3k at Campbelltown.

I presume management/ownership of the new stadium will move from the council to the NSW Govt?
If Panthers are the only team that will be playing there then it's a waste of money.

It probably is but I'll take all the stadium money in the world that benefits RL.

AFL get it all the time. Any time some of that sweet stadium money is on offer we should be at the front of the line no matter how unnecessary the project may seem (provided it benefits RL).

Yeh NRL should just be trying to push their priorities to the front of the spending queue constantly regardless of result.

A few battles left to fight still, in no particular order, some less important/urgent than others:

Stadium Australia (rectangular),
Campbelltown (rebuild or upgrades),
Brookvale (rebuild or upgrades),
Wollongong (upgrades),
Canberra (new stadium),
Newcastle (upgrades),
Auckland (upgrades or new stadium),
Suncorp (upgrades),
Shark Park (upgrades),
Kogarah (upgrades).

Sigh…get off it.

clubs and NRL won’t move to playing out of one stadium, as the cons outweighs the positives. The clubs, NRL and most fans are aware of this.
do I need to rehash on these again?

Not really there are a shit ton of reserve grades who can play there also, as for no. of games we will be there 10-11 times a year as there is always a bathurst home game and possible bi-yearly magic round.
Regardless having this ground built and used, will give a massive kick up the arse for other clubs like manly, tigers, dragons to push for bigger and better facilities...
And thats only rugby league related, concerts or other main events= boxing, soccer, internationals will get taken there when the stadium gets built, something that wasn't a draw card previously due to it being a normal park stadium..
As for Macurthur Bulls, they kinda should be playing in campbelltown, but since the mariners are at brookvale, and Roar are at redcliffe, i see no reason why bulls cant share the facilities with penrith

And conversely, the Sharks should be courting the women soccer clubs to make it their ground. Look to steal some of those matches going to Penrith, or court the Sydney Blues or whatever they are called women team to play out of Shark Park.
Sharks had women leagues World Cup only a few yrs back.

I think we’re on the precipice of a significant moment in the sport’s history with clubs trying to fetch cash for their stadiums so they can help remain viable in the modern age. In the span of six years potentially up to a third of the comp will have moved to a quality all seated stadium.

The longer clubs stay indecisive about their location the harder it will be for them to compete against clubs with top facilities. The solutions are staring the Tigers and Dragons in the face but their chicken shit boards will prolong and dither till reality gives them the far worse alternative.

Barr and ACT govt’s inaction will hurt the Raiders and the tax payer as the eventual rebuild becomes more expensive through inflation.

Shit’s gonna hit the fan in the next ten years.

Reserve grade games won't generate revenue.

Super Rugby games could be held there. Maybe 1 or 2 a year. Socceroos AFC and World Cup Qualifying games would be good at a ground like Penrith and Parramatta.

I can't see any more stadia getting built after the $800m is spent. NSW Gov only spent the money on stadia to keep the GF in Sydney. There's nothing left for the NRL to bargain with. Whichever clubs don't get new stadia will fall further behind the ones who do, which spells trouble for them over the next 25 years.

That will be the job of the SMC to try and entice others to use it.

From the Govt point of view they can justify it by saying it is to service the growing West and in the interviews they talked very heavily about culture it attracting music events and other opportunities for the far west of Sydney.

What will be harder is trying to use the same lines for big spending elsewhere. The hardest justification will be Manly and Shark Park unless they can show other tenant use. At least Win they can pull out the investing in regions line for justification. Be interesting to see what they decide to do about Leichardt and Campbelltown. Both get so little use it would be very hard to justify big spends on them.

We await the announcement of how the remaining $500mill gets divided up with interest!
