So in your mind, the Qld events minister would need to be reminded by Beattie that they should seek to get the NRL GF. Wow she must be really good at her job! She would be making those quotes with or without Beattie.

Not necessarily, I’m sure she would make some quotes, that’s her job. But a number of articles have quoted her numerous times which I feel is a bit more than normal for a her.

Of course a number of article have spoken about it, the discussion is being had about the GF going interstate? If she wasn't making noise about getting the GF to Brisbane then she should be sacked. She is not making those statements because Beattie told her or influenced her to, she is making them because that is her job!

That is no doubt correct, my apologies, but I’m Glad you said that. There are a few on here that have death rode Grant and the selection of Beattie. Beattie working part-time has done more in the past month than most of the other commissioners in there full tenure. Great selection in my opinion.
A self-confessed media tart. Promised the world term after term up here and lurched from crisis to crisis. If the opposition weren’t such a rabble he’d be a footnote in Qld political history.

Cricket Australia joins stadium war in bid to halt SCG fall from grace

CRICKET Australia has launched an audacious bid to have the SCG promoted up the batting order in the state’s stadium funding war.

With the NSW Government expected to hand down the final allocation of its $1.6 billion stadiums package inside the next month, CA chief executive James Sutherland has written to Premier Gladys Berejiklian to highlight the SCG’s fall from grace as a Test venue.

In a letter penned on October 17, exclusively obtained by The Daily Telegraph, Sutherland lobbies for the redevelopment of the dated Brewongle-Churchill and O’Reilly Stands (which make up 60 per cent of public seating), and alerts the Premier to the fact that in terms of “public facilities and amenities” the iconic stadium is now ranked No. 5 out of the 6 Test grounds around the country.

It’s understood AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan has also joined Sutherland in personally writing to the Government to push the funding claims of the city’s two oval venues the SCG and Spotless Stadium as mass speculation points towards ANZ and Allianz Stadiums being the high priorities in provisions for the billion dollar stadium network.

The bold argument being levelled by Cricket Australia and the AFL to get their slice of the pie is that the SCG is the only ground in Sydney that plays host to two clubs that regularly draw 30,000-plus crowds in the Sydney Swans and the Sydney Sixers.

Sutherland’s letter also lobbies the Government for a second cricketing “hub” at Sydney Olympic Park to fix NSW Cricket’s facilities crisis.

The Daily Telegraph understands it would take an estimated $400 million out of the $1.6 billion pool to facilitate the requests CA is making for urgent facility upgrades and ventures at the SCG and Sydney Olympic Park.

Amid all the talk about Sydney’s rectangular stadium deficiencies, Sutherland has implored the Premier to not forget about cricket.

“I am writing further to your recent meetings with Cricket NSW to outline Cricket Australia’s priorities in relation to planned NSW Government investment in its stadiums network and Cricket Australia’s support for the plans developed by Cricket NSW to improve cricket’s ageing and inadequate high performance training and administration facilities in Sydney,” writes Sutherland.

“… Cricket’s specific stadiums priorities are:

“Completion of the SCG, including redevelopment of the dated Brewongle-Churchill and O’Reilly Stands, which constitute more than 60 per cent of the public capacity at the SCG. With the launch of Perth Stadium, as well as recent developments at other major cricket venues, the public facilities and amenities of these stands now rank 5 of 6 of the Test cricket venues in Australia (with Hobart’s Bellerive Oval ranked 6).

In addition, both of these stands were constructed prior to the neighbouring Allianz Stadium where significant safety and compliance issues have been recently identified by the SCG Trust, due to the venue’s age and condition. We expect there are similar issues with the Brewongle-Churchill and O’Reilly Stands.”

The NSW Government say they aren’t dismissing the claims of any of the major sports to lobby them directly, and will go back and brief the major stakeholders when final decisions are made.

“NSW deserves the best sports stadiums in the country. We need world class sporting facilities to attract national and international events. The stadiums plan will be an investment in a network of stadiums,” said a Government spokesman.

“We’re now working hard to get the sequencing in construction that will result in the best outcome for sports and fans.”

Sutherland points to the 380,000 fans that attended cricket at the SCG and Spotless last season.

However, Cricket Australia is just as concerned about a facilities crisis in Sydney, where there are limited net and practice facilities for NSW, the state that makes up 55 per cent of the players in all Australian teams.

Women’s players are regularly unable to train on turf wickets at the SCG due to the lack of space, and Cricket NSW is proposing a model called “two clubs two hubs” — a push for centre of excellence style facilities at both Moore Park and Sydney Olympic Park, which would mimic the set-up in Melbourne where there are facilities at the MCG and Junction Oval.

Sutherland stressed the importance of this being given sequence priority over any planned redevelopment of Moore Park’s Allianz Stadium, which could impact upon existing nets at the SCG.

“… It is critical that any new and improved training facilities are delivered at both Moore Park and Sydney Olympic Park prior to any potential impact on cricket’s current facilities at Moore Park in the event of a redevelopment of Allianz Stadium,” he wrote.

The SCG has had more money spent on it in the last 3-4 years than either the SFS or ANZ combined. I mean the new stands at the SCG didn't come from no where. The hide of the ACA to say the SCG has "fallen from grace". What a f'en farce of a statement

this whole thing has always been about siphoning money out for the SCG.

After the Government spent $200m buying back the ANZ Stadium lease they are going to have a hard time justifying prioritising Allianz/SCG. If Ayres weren't corrupt, using the Trust to advance his political ambitions, the decision to rebuild ANZ would have been made and finalised 3 years ago.

The new Labor candidate for Penrith was announced yesterday and she has already had a dig at Stuart Ayres regarding this issue.

“It is imperative that we have someone who is representing our local people and not fixated on providing stadiums in the eastern suburbs,” she said, referring to Mr Ayres’ role as Sports Minister.

NSW Treasurer reins in stadium spending

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet is set to put up a substantial roadblock to Sports Minister Stuart Ayres’ plans to rebuild two major stadiums in Sydney — starting with Allianz Stadium at Moore Park — with the Treasurer understood to be insisting total stadium spending stay at $1.6 billion.

It is understood Mr Perrottet has also cast doubt on Mr Ayres’ ambitious plans to start work on Allianz Stadium in 2018 and rebuild ANZ Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park, starting in 2019 — effectively rebuilding the stadiums at the same time — saying such a plan could provide “cashflow” problems for the government.

On a visit to Japan in August, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she wanted to build both stadiums and would not rule out a start to Allianz Stadium before the March 2019 election.

Mr Ayres will present a plan by the end of the month to cabinet, which has leaked and includes a plan to build Allianz first, followed by ANZ, with NRL grand finals at the SCG during the overlap of construction.

But Mr Perrottet is understood to be steadfast in saying the government should spend only $1.6bn — which includes $300 million already spent on Parramatta Stadium — or as “close as possible” to that figure.

The costs of substantial rebuilds of Allianz and ANZ have been put at as much as $1.8bn — with a potential $1.2bn required for ANZ and $600m for Allianz.

The two-year stadium saga has also turned into something of a battle between the NRL and the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust.

The trust, backed by Mr Ayres, has lobbied furiously for an Allianz rebuild and is supported by Allianz tenants the Sydney City Roosters, Sydney FC and the Waratahs.

Last week The Australian revealed those tenants and the Australian Rugby Union had written to Ms Berejiklian urging her to get on with the Allianz upgrade.

The NRL, Football Federation Australia and selected rugby league club chiefs wrote to Ms Berejiklian late last month, urging ANZ to be the priority.

That letter said: “As you would remember, when the $1.6bn stadia funding allocation was announced in April 2016, the two dominant sporting code administrations in western Sydney, the NRL and FFA, were unanimous in their moral and commercial support for a major redevelopment of ANZ Stadium into a rectangular configuration — an endorsement matched by an unambiguous decision by the NSW cabinet to prioritise this important project (and applauded by our respective regional organisations.)

“This commitment, which included the NRL Centres of Excellence Fund and the long-term content agreements with the NRL and FFA, still has our full support as being in the very best interests of all stakeholders, the broader sporting public and the people of NSW.

“The NRL’s and FFA’s content commitments are based on the understanding that the proposed investment in ANZ would see construction commence by March 2019 on the best rectangular stadium in the country with every seat closer to the action. “

Mr Perrottet said in a statement yesterday: “The Treasurer remains committed to the upgrades being delivered within the best possible time frames and budget.”
