State bullshit aside, having these sorts of articles come out has to start mounting some sort pressure on Ayres to come to the party and do the right thing and do up ANZ first.

The game and the people of sydney deserve a world class rectangular stadium. The f**k assing around is starting to get very frustrating and suspicious. The merkin needs to put his AFL/SCG trust love aside and do what is right. And the NRL really need to start playing real hardball with them as well.

I’m loathe to see a GF taken away from the home of league in this country but if the gov is gonna f**k with the game I love then bring the chaos I say. I love coming down to Sydney every year and soaking it all up for the GF but if the powers to be want to f**k with us then bring it to Brisbane. I’ll pay more in game tix but less in flights and accomodation.

I think Greeburg should go ahead and sell the 2019/20 gfs to Brissy, Melboure or Perth NOW...

Either ANZ will be under construction and unavailable or te gov will have tried to f*ck us, in which case they shouldnt be rewarded.

Tell them theyll get the gf back as soon as anz is suitable and until then, we will be taking the show on the road.

It will show them te ARLC is serious and that this "do SFS first to take gfs there while ANZ is out" will not be accepted.

Being punished by the afl as you put and being on the payroll are two different things.

I have read as well, the heavy handed way the afl treats the reporters/journalists access to there game. The Nrl should do something similar. Only allow Nrl accredited reporters/journalists to speak about nrl issues on rugby league related shows. Force fox and nine to use our people. The afl have over the past 5 yrs developed a heap of young journalists that move on to other media jobs. Even for 7, 9, 10, Fox Sports, smh, dt, state/fed parliament, council etc. There knowledge is afl and always will have a pro afl bias. That’s needs to change.

What’s the Buzz: Queensland’s bid to pinch NRL grand final from Sydney

The Daily Telegraph

THE woman who brought boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao to Australia this year is now trying to pinch our NRL grand final.

Queensland sports minister Kate Jones is determined to cash in on Sydney’s stadium wars with a multimillion-dollar bid to take premiership deciders from our Olympic venue to Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Jones’ NSW counterpart, Stuart Ayres, has put at risk a 20-year agreement for Sydney to host grand finals at ANZ Stadium by his failure to sort out the major venue mess.

The signed agreement will become null and void if Ayres gets his way and prioritises a new 45,000-seat stadium for the SCG Trust at Moore Park, which will push back several years the plan to transform ANZ Stadium into one of the world’s great rectangular stadiums.

If Ayres is successful delaying the Olympic stadium works, the grand final will go to the highest bidder from 2020. And this is where the Queensland government steps in.

“We have a proven record of staging big events like Jeff Horn and Manny Pacquiao,” Jones said.

“We have invested $750 million on events since coming in to government. We will take one or even two grand finals.”

Jones is highly critical of how poorly Ayres has handled the stadium funding issue.

“We’re getting very frustrated with the NSW government,” she said. “They’ve been saying all year that they are going to find a solution for their stadiums.

“Yet here we are and they’ve been dithering for 12 months.

“I’ve said to Todd Greenberg Queensland has consistently demonstrated our passionate fans turn up to games in huge numbers throughout the year.”

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Greenberg, soccer boss David Gallop and the chief executives of the Canterbury Bulldogs, St George Illawarra, Wests Tigers, the Rabbitohs and the Western Sydney Wanderers have written a joint letter to NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to support the ANZ redevelopment as a priority.

So, too, has the chief executive of the NSW Business Chamber, Stephen Cartwright, who pointed out Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne were all trying to take major events from Sydney.

And here is the Nrls reply.

Wonder who from the Nrl has contacts at qld gov level? Surely it couldn’t be Grant.

Not sure that’s the greatest idea. I get the feeling they will try and cushion the impact of building Allianz first by promising all nsw rl clubs a CoE and/or stadium upgrades. If the Nrl show there hand now they could pull those deals. Once the nsw gov decide on the stadium strategy the Nrl need to get contracts and unconditional agreements signed and sealed then if Allianz is being built first take the gf away from sydney. Blame the gov for the interstate move.

Clubs and the Nrl have to stay united in there approach or it will all fall apart.

Grand final at the SCG? Get ready for whinging rednecks

I’d say there’ll be more Sydney locals up in arms over an SCG GF if by rednecks you mean QLDers.

SCG is shit for league though, the sightlines are horrendous for a rectangular sport.

Yeah the SCG isn't designed for Rugby League, I remember watching the Wallabies at the MCG once and it was for away from the action. Just hearing the amount of whingy qld'ers carrying on about how the evil from the south got us again would be hysterical.

Suncorp is the best stadium for the GF if Olympic park wasn't available but would any Queenslanders go if there were no Queensland teams? I've come across so many people here that tell me when all the QLD teams are gone they don't watch the GF because there are no Queenslanders to cheer for.

Well speaking for myself I try to fly down every year. I try to have a boys weekend away with lads fromw work. I’ve been to 7 of the last 10 GF’s I couldn’t care less who’s playing. If NQ are in it, then it’s a bonus for mine. I think it would sell out in Brisbane no worries.

ANZ STADIUM REBUILD NO.1 PRIORITY

No wonder soccer boss David Gallop has joined forces with NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg to push for a 75,000-seat rectangular stadium at Olympic Park before money is spent at Moore Park.

On Saturday night only 34,000 fans turned up for the Sydney FC v Wanderers derby at Allianz Stadium. The same game at ANZ attracted 61,000 last year.

Surely Premier Gladys Berejiklian cannot ignore these attendance figures.

Clearly more soccer fans are in Sydney’s west and would prefer ANZ Stadium, especially once it becomes a rectangle and fans get closer to the action.

As for sports minister Stuart Ayres’ scare campaign about Allianz Stadium being a death trap, he is treating us all like fools.

I sat on halfway near the tunnel for the first half on Saturday night. I sat with the Wanderers’ supporter group the RBB for the second half. Everyone behaved and there were no safety issues.

Outside of the Jeff Horn fight and the Anzac Day game between the Roosters and Dragons, it was my favourite sporting event of the year.

The lack of female toilets and lack of emergency power supply is a real "death trap" apparently. $600 million should just be enough to cover that though.

its not Ayres decision , he can push his line but in the end its the premier & the rest of the cabinet who'll decide. That trumped up little muppet might have a few on his side amongst the decision makers , but hopefully theres more front benchers who can see the potential shit storm a decision to redo Allianz first will cause.

I can't believe people get their panties in a twist if the NRL GF moves from Sydney.

Like, really?

Surely Suncorp, or the MCG or the Adelaide Oval or the new WACA...it doesn't matter...could host it? Even Auckland? And people would still watch it? And Sydney siders would go visit another city for GF weekend?

Sheeshh.
