That said what we need to look for in the announcement is specific dollars for each stadium.

If they allocate specific funds with a specific plan it’ll make it harder to borrow money from one stadium to use on the other.

A coalition of state MPs, and the Sydney Lord Mayor have called for an urgent meeting with the premier to discuss growing community alarm about plans for Moore Park.

Today’s bulletin, shared with the Inner West Courier, follows an open letter sent yesterday by Saving Moore Park Inc president Michael Waterhouse on behalf of the group who represent about 3000 people. Mr Waterhouse’s letter raised several concerns about plans for Moore Park and asked why the NSW government is reported to be rebuilding Allianz Stadium at a cost of about $700 million.

Today’s missive expressed “growing community alarm about the lack of public information and consultation for proposals regarding Allianz Stadium, Alexandria to Moore Park road widening, the former Showground Entertainment Quarter, Hordern Pavilion and Royal Hall of Industries, Driver Avenue and traffic and car parking”.

The letter was signed by mayor Clover Moore, Sydney state MP Alex Greenwich, Heffron state MP Ron Hoenig and Newtown state MP Jenny Leong.

“We are concerned that the NSW Government is holding private discussions with vested interests on a series of proposals that would further reduce and commercialise this precious public land, without consulting local communities,” the memo read.

They complained when it was going to be built on Moore Park proper, now they’re complaining about a rebuild on the existing site.

First complaint was reasonable but now they’re just taking the piss.

I guarantee you they’d even complain if it was rebuilt to a reduced capacity of 35k.

Those stadiums have been in that precinct for over 100 years, drives me nuts when people who knew they existed complain about it.

Some of this is correct, but the last line is hilarious.

Reports that cabinet will consider a proposal to demolish and rebuild Allianz Stadium at a cost of about $700 million.

“No business case exists to demolish and rebuild Allianz Stadium,” the letter said. “The stadium is rarely full and only averages 40 per cent capacity across the NRL, Super Rugby and A-league.

“Sydney Swans oppose rebuilding it and refurbishment to improve safety would be more responsible.

SFS is 30 years old, but not much wrong with it - apart from maybe having single pour guns at the bar. the issue at moore park, and the reason there may be security issues, are the buildings the trust have built/building that are closing the venue in. NRL HQ, waratahs, roosters, ARU and the sports medicine centre have all been built after the SFS and basically make getting in and out of there a f**k of an experience because you're funneled into narrow access points and need to circumnavigate half the stadium to get out of the area. how is all this going to change with a new stadium? they won't be knocking down the buildings and reduce the lease revenue they get from them!

and homebush bay oval is shit, but WCQ qualifier against Honduras was shit for everything else too......no food options apart from marquees outside the ground, and it took 1 & 3/4 hrs to get from the exit of the stadium to central station after the game.

If the NRL is to follow through with their threats about ANZ being done first , then they should take the very first opportunity to stick it right to Gladys, her Govt & this horrendously corrupt decision , by having a perfectly usable ANZ sit idle while Allianz is being built & the 2 grand final teams running out onto Suncorp Stadium

Eventually rugby league overall will be a winner.
At least the NRL lobbied the State Govt to secure decent infrastructure.Our do nothing CEO predecessors were too flipping timid.Right Mr Dave um and agh????

Stadium bill to soar above $2b following cabinet approval

Two of Sydney's major sports stadiums will be demolished and rebuilt at a cost of $2 billion after state cabinet signed off on an expensive conclusion to the long-running saga on Thursday.

However the $2 billion price tag to rebuild both Allianz Stadium at Moore Park and ANZ Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park does not include the cost of rebuilding Parramatta Stadium.

This blows the cost of the Berejiklian government's stadiums package to $2.3 billion – well above the original $1.6 billion price tag announced by former premier Mike Baird two years ago.

Fairfax Media has confirmed cabinet has signed off on Allianz being demolished and rebuilt in 2018 and ANZ the following year.

Allianz will be rebuilt with a capacity of 45,000 and ANZ with a capacity around 80,000.

This will allow the NRL to continue holding matches, including the grand final, at ANZ while Allianz is unavailable.

Fairfax Media first revealed the revival of the plan to build a new stadium at Moore Park to replace Allianz in August.

The decision is a reversal of one announced by Mr Baird and Sports Minister Stuart Ayres last year, and follows bitter clashes among Sydney's sporting and political elite.

Surely thats enough for a roof on both stadiums and maybe some leftovers for a Dallas style jumbo screen. Get everyone up close to the action at ANZ and then they watch on a big screen anyway.

SCG. since other than Anzac day thier biggest crowds are in Adelaide and CC anyway so take a few more on the road.
