I think they will get plenty of use, and increased crowds.Especially with decent cover.

There is nothing wrong with Allianz other than a shit roof and no transport.

- Make Homebush rectangular and roofed
- Fix Allianz roof.
- Finish new Parramatta
- Rest of the money on revitalising boutique grounds of 20-30k. Eg Manly could have a nice 17k seater like St Helens. Panthers, Campbelltown etc same but a bit bigger.

Why reward those SCG trust scumbags? We have an opportunity here to spread the GF for a few years for a legitimate reason. Give Suncorp, Eden Park, Etihad or the MCG a go. Let Sydney pine for it for a few years.

State cabinet signed off on the ANZ and Allianz reconstructions yesterday, ending years of politicking and speculation over stadia investment.

Work will begin on Allianz in 2018 and ANZ the following year. The developments are a win for the Sydney sporting public, but will have knock-on effects for clubs displaced during the construction periods.

One of ANZ Stadium's main tenants, Canterbury, are already making contingency plans. The Bulldogs already take two home matches to Belmore but are planning to boost that figure to six while the Homebush Bay precinct is under construction.

"The Bulldogs have got to look at what's in the best interest for their fans and members and if we can improve the amenities and facilities a bit more at Belmore, I can't see why the board wouldn't entertain the idea of taking half a dozen games there," said Bulldogs chairman Ray Dib.


"We could take some games to the new Parramatta Stadium and also keep some games up our sleeve to take interstate.

"The reception at Belmore has been positive. It's been a shame that we've had bad weather and bad timing, with Thursday night games the last couple of years.

"It would be a great reward and a sign of appreciation to our fans to be able to take more games back to Belmore."

The Bulldogs will be one of several teams looking to take games to Parramatta while the other two major stadiums are off line. When not playing at Campbelltown or Leichhardt Oval – they have also locked in a "home" game at Tamworth next year – Wests Tigers will venture to the Eels' new home ground. Canterbury will do likewise, while South Sydney fans will also have to make the trek from their Homebush base for some of the games they host.

The Roosters already take some matches to Gosford and may take more, but their temporary home base will likely be the Sydney Cricket Ground until Allianz is finished. A-League side Sydney FC and the Waratahs will look to host some matches at the SCG.

The NSW government's financial commitment will ensure the NRL grand final remains in Sydney long-term, but there will be issues regarding its placement during construction.

The SCG is likely to host at least one grand final during that period, marking the first time it has happened since the 1987 Manly-Canberra decider.

Sydney's sporting stadiums have been neglected for decades, while interstate rivals have stolen sporting events after upgrading their facilities. NSW will now be able to compete for premium content when Allianz is rebuilt with a capacity of 45,000 and ANZ about 75,000.

Former premier Mike Baird had only allocated $1.6 billion of funding to the three major projects, but the NSW government has now committed $2.3 billion.

"It's great for the state, it's a bold and aggressive move," Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe said. "It's a great result to have three brand new stadiums of three different sizes accommodating the growth of the game and changing demographic.

"Having spent time in Melbourne and America, you can't underestimate what quality stadiums can do for the sporting experience for a state."

NRL expected to confirm Queensland to miss grand final

QUEENSLAND rugby league fans have been given a kick in the guts, with the NRL on Friday expected to confirm they won’t let the Sunshine State host a NRL Grand Final.

The move has been slammed as a “Sydney stitch up’’ by an angry State Government, who had been hopeful of luring the grand final north.

The Courier-Mail can reveal that the NRL will instead give a 25-year commitment to hold grand finals in Sydney after 2019, in a move that scuttles both Queensland and Victoria’s hopes to pry the event away.

As part of the plan, the NRL grand final will head back to the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2020 for the first time in 33 years.

Tourism and Major Events Minister Kate Jones said the deal “sounds like a Sydney stitch up’’.

“I’m sick and tired of the NRL taking Queensland for granted,’’ she said.

“There is only one state that consistently delivers record rugby league crowds and that’s Queensland.”

Brisbane was hopeful of hosting an NRL grand final in 2019 or 2020 if Sydney’s ANZ Stadium was unavailable during a rebuild.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian will on Friday morning announce the $2 billion plan to rebuild ANZ stadium at Homebush and Allianz stadium at Moore Park, ending four years of negotiations over the renewal.

The rebuild of Allianz, which is currently riddled with safety issues, will begin next year, costing $700 million for a brand new 45,000 seat stadium.

In 2019 — after the NRL grand final — the ANZ rebuild will follow, costing $1.2 billion for a 75,000 seat stadium. It will be reconfigured into a rectangle.

In return for the government providing two new stadiums, NRL boss Todd Greenberg has agreed to keep the 2020 grand final in Sydney while both stadiums are out of action.

Greenberg knocked back multimillion-dollar offers from QLD and Victoria to take the game interstate when the rebuilds are under way, instead agreeing to hold a grand final at the SCG.

The last grand final at the SCG was back in 1987 when Paul Vautin captained the Manly Sea Eagles to victory over Canberra.

Presume then 2021 will be at Allianz, and then 2022 will return to ANZ.

Unless somehow they can build ANZ in only 2 years, but that seems unlikely.

I think the dogs & Souths will play most of their 2022 season at ANZ though.

The AFL & Lions, a club in millions of debt, is asking for $30m in state & federal funding for a $70m training and admin facility at Springfield, and they are using the single season of women's afl, with free admission & bullshit attendance figures, to justify the taxpayer funding. It's beyond ridiculous.

The best way to make sure nothing ever gets built is for league, union and soccer to get into a pissing match.
