Your sentiment is a bit over the top, but Souths were the silly ones locking themselves into a contract to stay at Accor until 2030 when the funding for its upgrade was not guaranteed. For mine that just poor foresight and poor business planning.
We signed an MOU, not a contract. With the redevelopment shelved, we can do as we please.

And we will.

It's all just grandstanding at the moment.

Does the State Government have to offer Souths a lease at the SFS?

Or can they pull a 'f**k off we're full' and offer another stadium for lease?

I don't know the ins-and-outs. But we're a massive club owned by Mike Cannon-Brookes, James Packer and Russell Crowe. We'll be OK.

So the Penrith area gets shafted again to pander to all you easties! The real NRL heartland in Sydney suffers because they don't have an AFL, ALeague or RU team to share with.
Penrith are the biggest RL nursery in the world and reigning premiers, but don't deserve a decent stadium.
But somehow perennial underachievers like SGI, MW, CS, WT all deserve upgrades first.
Makes good sense

it comes down to the fact only 1 team plays there all year and the Panthers are seen as anti women's RL. Some really dumb decisions have been made by them.

because our MPs are all dodgy dealers?
because the game is all over the place with too many dinosaurs leading the conversations

2018 NRL is praising NSW govt for plans to redevelop SFS, 2022 Vlandy's is slagging them off for it being a waste of money. Sigh.

I don't think the one main tenant is that big an issue as long as it secure 5 or 6 decent events for the region. Better we get a new stadium in penrith for one Ft tenant that waste money on 3 suburban dumps with the same, or less!

5 You beaut stadiums for Sydney is about right
SFS - Tick
Commbank - Tick
Penrith - Hopeful Tick
Then
Southern Stadium
Northern Stadium

WIN -new stand with better corporates to take current 13k undercover seats to 20k.
Newcastle - end stands

That's all that's needed. Spend a few mill on the suburban grounds to make them safe and fit for local sport. Sorted.

They applied this year but didn't get chosen.
They wanted to buy WSW but were rejected because they were an NRL club. NSW Rugby doesnt want a team west of Concord.
so how do you get another tenant?

The last 3 years have been covid sellouts for nearly every home game.
How do you justify the SFS and Commbank that will be less than 50% capacity for all their tenants except for the odd blockbuster?
Penrith have had very few attendances in the last 10 years less than 10k which is 50% of the current capacity.
It is currently 90% where Parramatta is less than 60% at Commbank.
Because your winning atm.

Penrith normally average 12k unless they are in the Top 4.

You probably lucked in with the weather as well. Have Penrith had a wet home game yet.

NRL has said it wants 18 NRLW teams by 2028. Everyone is going to have one eventually, not that is anything to do with building 30k new stadiums. That's about building clubs fanbases and helping them get financially sustainable without constantly upping the NRl grant.

They have as much wet weather as everyone else in Sydney. The fans just keep turning up.
The home crowds have been steadily climbing for the past 10 years, and will grow more if they had better facilities and more undercover areas.

All clubs challenge is to turn their 12k hardcore to 15k, and their 17k success years to 20k plus. New stadiums along with a host of other initiatives can make it happen. RL is a great game, there is no reason we should set our ambitions so low when it comes to crowds. The benefits of increasing them can be massive for the club and the game. Dave Smith knew this a decade ago!

CEO Dave Smith said the NRL’s goal was to attract an average 16,500 fans per game this year. So far the average crowd is 16,006.
“We are on track to meet that target,” he said.
“The competition has never been closer and the quality of football this year is fantastic.
“We have worked hard with the clubs to encourage families back to the game, with most offering family tickets for $40-50.
“That is making the game more affordable and, combined with children’s activities, is creating another reason to go to the footy.
“We have also broken our all-time membership record and we know that members are more likely to attend games.”
mith said there had been virtually no growth in rugby league attendances over the last 10 years and structural change was needed to drive bigger crowds.

This includes providing better facilities for fans from the time they leave home, throughout the game and on their trip back home again.
Smith said NRL’s longer term goal was to attract an average 20,000 fans per game.
“That’s why we are moving to use the bigger stadiums, which are able to cater for crowds of 20,000 or more,” he said.
“But, having said that, we need better facilities and we need a new stadium purpose-built for Rugby League”.

Ok, so that in fact makes them look even sillier complainiung about having no venue for 2023 home games because they couldn't be assed doing things properly and only signing an MOU in November 2021.
