Randomly checking public transport times now on a Sunday afternoon so quite relevant for footy attendance. I live in Marrickville so pretty central in relation to venues:

Leichhardt: 44 min (1 change)
Jubilee Oval: 45 min (direct)
SFS: 49 min (1 change)
Stadium Aus/Accor: 1 hour 4 min (2 changes)
Bankwest stadium: 1 hr 5 min (2 changes)
Brookvale: 1 hour 21 (1 change)
Shark Park: 1 hour 26 (2 changes)
Penrith: 1 hour 38 min (1 change)
Campbelltown: 1 hour 40 (direct)

WIN: 2 hours 6 min (2 changes)
Central Coast Stadium: 2 hours 9 (1 change)
McDonald Jones: 3 hours 26 (1 change)

So only 3 Sydney stadiums under an hour away, and only two or three reachable without a change of train or bus. Average of just over 70 minutes to get to any of the Sydney stadia.

you're going the wrong way lol. You can get train marrickville 1.13pm to central (12mins) then central to paramatta 1.42 to Parra (31min). 59min trip even with a 17min wait between trains.
How can it take 49min to accor when its only a 12min train trip Marickville to central station according to NSW transport? Or are you including a pub stop off?

I just punched the times into a transport app. Also factors in the walk to the station and walk from the final station to the stadium.
You still have 1-2 more trains to get to Accor once you reach Central.

you have touched on the main problem with Sydney though. For most journeys it requires a trip into Central Station because cross-town links are rubbish or non-existent.

and that's why sensible cities build their shared stadiums in the centre where the transport runs to!

Works for maybe half the sides, but the far western/southwestern areas like Penrith and Campbelltown are still too far away with direct transport links, and Manly has no train line. Cronulla is a borderline case.

I agree, I've advocated for a long time that Penrith needs its own stadium. Ideally Dragons and Sharks share a new one at Loftus and possibly Manly. The rest should all be sharing SFS and WSS. Sydney only needs 5 NRL stadiums. Maybe Tigers move to SW fulltime in a couple of decades when that new city concept is finished and new stadium is built there.

With Penrith to be built hopefully the NRL should have been lobbying for the other 2 new ones. Not fixing up out dated dumps. Penrith was committed. Next $250mill to Manly for a rebuild 20-25k stadium. Then Southern stadium for Sharks and Dragons if they agree. If not Dragons can move sydney games to SFS and sharks can seek private funding for its own property development.

Tigers should just go to Commbank and be done with it. For 20 years I've been hearing about how the Southwest is the fastest growing place in Australia and that it's going to be a city the size of Canberra blah blah blah. They're building hectares of new estates and Campbelltown Stadium barely pulls 5k.

He keeps upping the clubs grant, he's buying their votes. Last year Cowboys got $18.2mill in NRL grants compared to just $13.5 in 2019!
That's a lot of good will he's buying with the what should be grassroots funding.

If the state government were serious about the idea of developing a new city centre adjacent to the new western Sydney airport at Badgery’s creek, they’d be looking to develop a stadium precinct there, along with good public transport links both into the city and north-south to connect with Penrith and Campbelltown. Then entice the Panthers, Dogs and Tigers as tenants.

How about after the upgrades are done over the next 10 years?

100%. At least two of them. Two others could play at Commbank fulltime. Two others could play at SFS. Manly to play at Brookvale, Sharks at Shark Park and Dragons at Wollongong with some select big games at SFS for all three (maybe as part of double headers)

I think another thing is scheduling. Let’s look at double headers in Sydney at least every fortnight (Saturday or Sunday afternoon)

The problem with that area is the transport. Once the airport goes up and the transport is connected into that area, the area will explode

Tigers really should of had their CoE out there.

I guess putting it at Penrith you can get the non sport use of people walking their dogs, picnic etc.

Not sure you would get that out there, without the Tigers full time would end up even more unused
