Accor fully roofed will be great for the grand final and origin

as Vegas showed a roofed stadium provided an excellent surface which is conducive to fast quality football

it might even help improve the atmosphere too by enclosing the noise

One day in the future Sydney will get a proper rectangular 80k roofed stadium but accor will be ok for big games in the meantime

Allegiant has a full roll in pitch. Unless there’s planning that for Accor it isn’t comparable

I can’t see the 15k stadium ever getting built but if it does, Storm should play trial games there.
That stadium has Waverley Park vibes - in the middle of a cow paddock with zero public transport options. Storm would be better taking trials to Bendigo, Ballarat or Geelong. If they want a rectangular ground Morwell has a 12k stadium ready to go.

Roofed stadium will require fake turf.........

Unless you want to throw another bazillion dollars at a roll in style pitch like Arizona and LV........ ontop of the roof construction.

This idea needs to be shot into the sun IMO.

20k stadium specifically built for an EFTE roof vs 85k stadium with a retro fit.......... the cost would be ridiculous.

This still doesn't resolve the absolute shitful view for 70% of patrons.

Now is the time for Souths and Canterbury to be honest with the state government. They shouldn't be excited with just having a roof.

Whether it's a rugby league game or a Taylor Swift concert, you are still sitting too far away. And Sydney continues to have a habit of building stadiums where the roof structure behind the goal posts is relatively low. They did it with Allianz.

The main stadium needs to have a flat roof on all sides just like Commbank and Suncorp. You are better off demolishing Accor stadium and start all over again with a flat roof 80k rectangular stadium.

And the whole stadium doesn't need to be covered, but just have extended roof coverage to cover every seat.

My understanding is that grass needs natural light to grow. Allegiant goes through the trouble of rolling the entire field out of the stadium to get it despite have a semi translucent roof.
they would have to use artificial lighting to maintain the pitch, big running costs. Check out the new Real Madrid stadium where the pitch is stored underneath the stadium!

All big stadiums use lighting to maintain the grass. The MCG rolls out the lights at night, as does Marvel and I would imagine ACCOR Already does.

The article says one of the tenants asked if the lower bowl was moving in (my guess would be south’s)

I know Sydney gets a lot of heavy rain, but I am not sure that a roof will actually increase crowds. There are already 40k undercover seats at ACCOR. It is more the getting there and back that puts people off. Also a fixed roof can restrict the ability to host some concerts. The roof as Marvel is almost always open for concerts - sometimes it has to be to fit in the artists stage/screens, etc.

If you have been to Marvel you will know that the roof does not necessarily improve the atmosphere. It feels more soulless due to weird echo unless it is totally full. I remember a SOO there way back and the atmosphere was incredible, but with 20k there for the cricket last summer it was horrible.

Plus, many of us love a wet weather game every now and then.

Didn't the "astro turf" artificial fields used in American gridiron lead to an increase in ACL injuries?

Homebush isn't hard to get to, its smack bang right in the middle of Sydney, there's heaps of parking areas, and transport is fairly solid, its not about the travel... its about the veiws, the sheer emptiness of a normal club game, vs a finals/SoO game, i have zero issue going to Homebush during finals, its a great atmosphere when full, when its not it sux

The atmosphere inside the Dome on a sunny day with the roof closed is like being in some shitty casino, also.
