Is it just me or does that look pretty advanced for a stadium that isn’t due to open for nearly 2 years?

South Island if they get in will have that as a main stadium plus Dunedin as a secondary stadium, spoilt.

it does look ahead of schedule but that roof might take a bit to finish off.

Yeh fair point, I’m thinking of how it compares to recent ones like QCB & CommBank and it seems miles ahead. Roof must take a while.

Ah ok, afaik know there’s nothing in particular under the northern end, isn’t that the family hill? The sewer main is definitely under the southern end adjoining Howell Oval

Played Australian Age Touch Championships there almost 10 years ago. Wasn't as bad with two (three? ) Touch fields on that field

Maybe don’t make them televised events because it presents awfully on TV.

Just watching the replay now, jesus that is a huge oval, fans look further away than the MCG.

It’s tough though because especially in Australia I think you’ll find most of the regional grounds that have any sort of spectator capacity will be ovals, do we just brush regional footy entirely? I do think though that not having them as night games would help, night footy on big ovals with small crowds just looks terrible.

Off the top of my head Sunshine Coast, Mackay, Rockhampton, Toowoomba, Dubbo, Tamworth, Bathurst & Wagga are all rectangular-ish.

It’d be good if some more regional venues were better quality 12-15k grounds but in reality who will pay for it. At least Sunshine Coast & Cairns are getting something from the Olympics budget.
