Im advocating for a stadium that is befitting of the Olympics that wont make Australia look like some hick backwater, AFL usage I dont care one or the other, it wont make a jot of difference to RL and so I leave to the loonies on here to get triggered about.

What, have you forgotten about that big toilet bowl in Sydney that made the world look differently at Australia?

How's that going for the sporting public ever since the Olympics? Hunk of junk.

Sydney actually got the Olympic stadium perfect. 112 000 capacity. Record crowd was 112 574 - Athletics Night 4. The largest Olympic stadium in history which was full for all day and night sessions for the athletics.
Where we f**ked up was during the re-build. Beholden to CA and the AFL. The fact it wasn't converted to full rectangular afterwards was criminal.

Meanwhile in Brisbane CA and AFL are trying it on again faithfully supported by some peanuts on this thread.

Not sure how anyone can criticise the Sydney games. They are widely regarded as the most successful ever. Every Olympics since has tried to emulate it. They got it 100% right. Hopefully Brisbane do too.

What happened after in Sydney though can only be blamed on the AFL and the piss weak Labor Government at the time.

Doesn't matter how it happened, it just did.

Anybody with half a brain would know the field was too small for those two shit sports. Will the dumbos up in qld take note? As is usual in politics, whoever gives them the most money will drive the course of their decisions.

If Sydney never had the games and Homebush didn’t exist, I wonder the set up would be now?

Probably a 65k SFS and more modern SCG as well.

If there is a change of Government, there is no way 2 billion is getting pumped into QSAC, because besides a small minority who want that venue upgraded, most of the State don’t even want the games and those who do, don’t want money wasted on an athletics stadium because they know they will never attend it. Despite whatever sport they follow, and most Queenslanders have a passive interest in most sports and aren’t usually on these types of forums, most of all they want to feel their money is isn’t being pissed up against the wall. So they would probably prefer a new stadium or upgraded Suncorp and Gabba, than this white elephant at Nathan. They certainly don’t need John Coates or IOCs approval.

Eh? There would be dozens of cities in the world that have, or could afford, the right infrastructure for the Olympics. Given its only every 4 years you could have a dozen cities with the right infrastructure and they would only host every 50 years or so!
Personally Id build it all in Greece and host it there very time if the IOC is really serious about doing it cheaply. Greece could do with the revenue.
Yeah let’s pour even more money into Greece in stadiums because that turned out really well for them.

aw bless, someone's triggered by a bit of conversation.

ps perth is a non olympic city lol
I wouldn't say triggered, I'm just astounded by your constant whinging about venues that haven't been decided on yet and in some cases not even built yet.

You are falling for the media's trick of making a "disaster" out of the venues that happens in the lead up to every single Olympics, and you are also falling for the AFL spin than means only the Gabba or a new AFL stadium can possibly host the athletics despite it being overkill once the Olympics leave town.

Just relax, Australia has a great track record of hosting major events (except Victoria pulling out of the Comm Games, which you didn't seem to see as "embarrassing") and by the time the games roll around, a full 8 years away, the venues that do get selected will look spectacular.
