Did anything come of the feasibility study the NSW govt commissioned in April last year for a $300mill accor roof? Sounds like Vlad was in favour. Would they try and fast track it now they have the RUWC final?

Accor Stadium’s major tenants have been asked about a roof as part of a feasibility study formally commissioned by the NSW government.

Seems unlikely. RWC is just over two and a half years away. If the NSW govt. want to build a roof over ACCOR for the RWC, they better get cracking really soon.

Yeah.. will be interesting to see what reaction we get from having a Christchurch-based team playing most of it's home games in an enclosed stadium.

I'm hoping that actually spurs some jealousy across the ditch.. which might just kick-start the next phase of stadium upgrades/rebuilds.

From my experience, Marvel/Docklands is a bit soulless and lacks the atmosphere of an open roof stadium. And particularly day games feel very much like your in a dingy Casino

Hopefully Chch is a lot more natural light and well designed.

Fully rooved stadiums have a much better atmosphere.

To be fair, Marvel is primarily an AFL stadium - a covered rectangular stadium should make for a far better experience at an NRL game.

Correct.

The majority of fans prefer no roof. The same game of cricket or AFL draws 10k better @ MCG compared to Marvel.

Hasn't really spurred jealousy from the stadium in Dunedin for other rugby teams.

I don’t really see a roof as a major necessity in Australia as long as the majority of the seating is well covered. Wouldn’t hurt to have a roof at Canberra maybe, but getting a new stadium is proving hard enough.

If they can get a retractable roof as part of the deal if/when Accor and Suncorp are rebuilt bonus points but not the end of the world if not. Protecting against bad weather cancelling concerts would be the main draw, doubt the governments funding it care much about an NRL or Soccer game being played in the wet.

Correct the roofs are a great feature for concerts and events, for sports is a bonus.

I’d like to see Accor and Qudos Arena both demolished and rebuilt around 2030 as start of the art 75k and 20k venues, as part of the Homebush bay renewal plans with more entertainment options in the precinct.

$4B to rebuild both venues but tied into a greater urban redevelopment plan of the area costing many more billions total.

Since they can set up one big construction site they can save on some costs doing them together.
