Are they going to offset loss of green space for Victoria park strategy?!
The Quirk review describes Victoria Park as a 'greenfield site'. Basically an open, undeveloped plot of land with no other value.

Loss of green space has not entered their thinking. The Olympics is a carpetbaggers once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

They also ignored that the Brisbane City Council has already spent $33 million on the Victoria Park Master Plan, which was to further enhance this public asset - https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/thi...Q38-yKL8ARyVGvtCHg_aem_WE6LXnu6fisVsLJEiizo1w

maybe irrelevant but that park used to be a golf course so in actuality it used to be a sporting precinct. as for green space, what about the giant green space known as mount cootha only 16 mins away from cbd?

be interesting to see where satdium falls

It wasn't always a golf course. It's been a public park since 1875. Otherwise your comment means shit.

It's spelled Mt Coot-tha.

I don't have the link to the story because it is behind a paywall, but found the headline below in MacArthur Chronicle.

It appears that plans are now before the regions planning panel for the Centre of Excellence at Campbelltown. The plans look similar to Brookvale' s COE where it also doubles as a grandstand.

Green spaces are connected as corridors. Also, council will have % of canopy cover it aims to meet. This improves air quality & reduces temp. Doesn't help being outside of CBD.

Canberra would only be moving the warriors game to nz

And maybe the Brisbane game to Suncorp

They would make a shed load of money doing this in terms of bigger crowds and money paid by host cities

Nz would be Wellington Hamilton Dunedin chch or even rotarua or taranaki

Loads of the smaller clubs should do this to make more dollars

true but it was a golf course for 90 years. the stadium (if plonked there) wouldn't take up the entire space anyways. what would be the expectation 1/8th? of the land re-purposed into stadium and surrounding venues. the rest remains relatively the same as it currently is? makes most sense of the areas thats been flagged outside redeveloped gabba of course.

nathan seems way too far and way too much of choke point by the looks of that mains road. hamilton isnt much better with kingsford smith drive and general accessibility. gabba should be the candidate but short of that vicky park looks ok.

Rename to the Capital Raiders for a year and take 4 games to Wellington. Really ratchet up the pressure. Start reporting every Health and Safety violation every game, including for fans. Let the ACT government know they're looking at a lawsuit if there are any serious incidents at the stadium. If no upgrade annoucements by 2027 (30 years since last upgrade) - say the club will see the ground as derelict by 2030 and will be moving out of the city. Announce the relocation after the Grand Final in 2028 - coincidentally a couple of weeks prior to the next ACT election.

Play a bit of hardball and set dates. Becuase the ACT government at the moment is just delaying and avoiding. Still alot of bullets in the chamber, especially if they can coordinate with the Brumbies and any future Aleague team (they actually probably would have expanded to Canberra last round if they had decent facilties).

How Dunedin, a city of 136,000, can build a stadium of that quality, but Canberra can't.
If this was one of the American major leagues, that's EXACTLY what the Raiders would be doing - and you know what?

If they moved to Wellington due to stadium issues in Canberra I'd be a fan of theirs right away.

A $30m state-of-the-art sports and health science facility is a step closer to reality in Sydney’s southwest, with plans now before the region’s planning panel.
The Campbelltown Sports Centre of Excellence is set to transform the home ground of Wests Tigers and Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, with the addition of a modern building up to four storeys high.
The plans provide a much-needed facelift to the sporting ground which dates back to the 1950s, with works including demolishing spectator seating and landscaping at the northern end of the stadium, and relocating the electronic scoreboard.

The building will include a science education centre, health and medical hub, gym, aquatic recovery facilities and new change rooms.
Planners behind the project state the proposal intends to address the “unmet need in South West Sydney for elite sporting facilities” and will include “specialist equipment which can be used for rehabilitative purposes”.

“The Campbelltown Sport and Health Centre of Excellence will co-locate facilities for elite sports training … as well as sports and recreational areas for the community, and special-use programs for the elderly and disabled,” a planner said.
The facility will also provide a new restaurant and cafe for stadium-goers, outdoor seating, indoor multipurpose areas for events, and office spaces for coaches, players and media.
Funding for the project was jointly provided by all three levels of government, alongside support from Western Sydney University (WSU). Picture: Brewster Hjorth Architects

The NSW Government committed $16.7m through WestInvest when the project was first announced in 2023, with the remaining $12.7m sourced from Campbelltown Council, a federal government community grant, and WSU.
A Campbelltown City Council spokesman stated that the project aimed to enhance “dedicated female programs and facilities to improve pathways for women and girls”, and the overall community’s health through increased participation in sporting activities.
WSU will be a core partner in the project and is proposed to provide key services focused on “high performance health and sports science”.
In partnership with the Centre of Excellence, WSU and other partners in relevant industries will also provide key pathways for developing local sporting talent across Sydney’s southwest.

Long overdue. The grandstands need a huge upgrade. The growth in the Macarthur region will justify it. That whole area desperately needs upgraded sports facilities.
No question mate, Liverpool is way too close to CommBank for another CommBank, Christ it`s literally 20 minutes by good public transport, 10 minutes by car.
Now the Macarthur region is another matter entirely, it would be as popular as Parra`s, in the centre of a rapidly growing massive populace.

Like gong they more nrl games than six

A league side barely get 3k crowds tops
Fair point, but with a world-class stadium it will attract other things like concerts etc given its` position, christ the A-League may even start to pull bigger crowds and the union might use it as well.
That region is a fair way from the rest of Sydney, it`s huge and growing fast, it for me is the perfect spot for another Commbank. (Will benefit League more than anyone is the best bit)

If doggies get approval to build on the oasis site and find the funding they will lock out the tigers and own all of Sydney from belmore to Liverpool and push into Campbelltown

Sure getting funding for a 40k stadium is going to be a push but it could change them forever

The Oasis site may as well be called the Mirage site because it's been only 5-10 years away from reality for a LOOOONG time. (Correction, got my desert terms mixed up!)

I agree that it's a game-changer when (if) it happens, BUT if the Tigers can pull-off this development first and really bed-in to that south-west corridor then it may be too late.

It's definitely interesting times with two resurgent clubs shaping up for a battle in the west/south west!
