From NRL’s perspective.

Brisbane/Broncos/Dolphins: Absolute Zero benefit. Suncorp may become slightly more public transport accessible which it should as time goes by anyway.

Gold Coast/Titans: Improved transport links that incorporate Robina remain. Stadium remains as is which is fine. Minor benefit.

Townsville/Cowboys: Zero benefit.

Sunshine Coast: Stadium upgrade to go ahead as planned. New Sunshine Coast rail will run to Birtinya walking distance to the stadium. “Metro” to the SC Airport from there. - Very Minor benefit.

Cairns: New grandstand to be built as planned. Very Minor benefit.
Lions get to play at the gabba right up till the parraolympics is finished then move seamlessly over to brand new stadium

Amazing luck for them

I find it ridiculous that the biggest stadium in qld, and most expensive in Australia, is now an oval, it will be called ‘Brisbane Stadium’ in perpetuity, and be integrated with an AFL hall of fame to mimic downtown Victoriania.
who gives a f**k.

League has Lang Park and the famous Caxton St walk up, a bucket list sporting experience in the country.

Depending on exactly where the new stadium is, it may be poor for before and after drinks. I doubt it will be as good as what the Gabba had....

I'm really not worried about that TBH. It will be the Olympic Stadium - that's the history, and if the Olympics are awesome, like I am sure they will be, that is the legacy it will have. And the Lions can just play out of it.

Suncorp Stadium IMO, is the greatest stadium location in the country. Its proximity to bars and restaurants is just the best - Caxton Street is a vibe that can't be matched in Australia. It will remain the best for that reason.

My cope is that at least they can't make it ugly now.

Then it should memorialise the Olympics, not afl, which is what the afl have asked for in the report.

Somehow I think a $3.8bn stadium will make Suncorp amenities look like Leichhardt oval in comparison.

Check who the review team met with and you'll find your answer.

Rugby League was asleep at the wheel on this. From the NRL Commission, the QRL, Brisbane Broncos and Redcliffe.

Complete failure on all their parts.
yep, even of they had pushed for Redcliffe and Ipswich 25k stadiums it would have been something for the future of NRL in Brisbane.

How the future tenants have responded:

60k for Olympics
61k for cricket
63k for AFL
Rediculous.
Will be the third biggest stadium in the land.

As others have raised, why haven't the NRL, ARU or Football lobbied for Suncorp or other rectangular venues in Brisbane?

And i guess when you look at Victoria Park, it does represent a long term solution for Cricket and Fumbles. Bear in mind that Brisbane's population will grow. Whether the Lions can fill it is another conversation.

Is upgrading Suncorp to 60k a long term solution? But first, the NRL, ARU and Football have to lobby. And they should lobby down in Canberra too.
