There is a lot of support for football (soccer) because of the number of greeks/italians/other europeans and this team will attract more interest and support than the storm will ever.

Australian soccer competitions have historically been poorly supported in Melbourne. That is why they've struggled so much. The new Melbourne Victory will lift the profile somewhat but I seriously doubt it will be more popular than Melbourne Storm.

I just wished both teams had a decent stadium designed specifically for a rectangular playing surface.

And just in case you seem to think that TV ratings may be your saviour.

The live Bledisloe Cup match this year rated 238,000 in Melbourne.

The League Grand Final this year rated 380,000 in Melbourne.

Dont let facts and figures get in the way of Stalin's argument.

8000 is still 8000

its better off getting an 8000 crowd in melbourne than an 8000 crowd in newtown

those 8000 people all have friends and relatives who eventually will come along

tv audience is much bigger in melbourne than newtown

it doesnt matter if its paltry for that city

nrl must look at it as a challenge and help develop the code for once!!!

as has been shown by the swans eventually melbourne will see the storm as their team which it is

surely this will happen after many sydney siders see a south melbourne team as being their own

storm must stay

yes storm must stay in the comp but be relocated to the central coast.

the market now and in the future will be huge in both the gold coast and central coast regions as they are two of the fastest growing regions in australia where the melbourne market will dwindle.

you need to be aware afl is a religion down that way and they do not take kindly to any thing changing this and will not support any southern state football code at all.

one would think the alf season is still running in relation to the amount of radio/tv/paper coverage that game gets down there in summer.

You can bleat as much as you like, the Storm are staying in Melbourne.
The market in the Gold Coast (who will no doubt be in the NRL)and certainly the Central Coast is now an will continue to be much smaller than Melbourne.Melbourne is an economic and financial powerhouse whether we like it or not.Melbourne's population is growing not dwindling dont know where you served that up from.
Maybe if the Central coast(and by the way I want them in to the NRL) can do something about its so called huge crowds. The last City Country match in 2004 barely cracked 15,000 in a heartland of the game, with a state of the art stadium.Thought the locals would have sold the place out, they didnt thats a worry.
Soccer is a religion in London, doesnt stop the London Broncos staying in the ESL,nor the junior development in that capital which has grown well above expectations, with school teams playing in the huge Powergen Cup.
League is growing there despite b...all publicity and through the hard work of DOs.
Just because AFL is a religion in Vic,why is the soccer team going in there
and not because of their juniors but because of the city and the advtg and sponsorship it brings. the rugby union boys will have down the line a s14/16 team planned for the city, are they s.....scared of AFLs dominance.
Talk about agendas if Hadley didnt work for 2GB and singo would he be pushing for the Storm to move, would Gould who hates News with a passion be pushing for relocation of the Storm.
The only ones I feel sorry for are Bears supporters, but in the end the Storm moving is not the answer.

Union is more popular than league in victoria and even they the ARU wasn't dumb enough to put a super 14 team down there.

Isn't it plain to see that the time to pull the plug on the storm and relocate them is now -

There is a lot of support for football (soccer) because of the number of greeks/italians/other europeans and this team will attract more interest and support than the storm will ever.

i said the support for the storm was dwindling which it is.

The rugby union will be have a s14/ team in Melbourne eventually, the Perth option was the easy option and this has been stated by union people
in the print media, because of the Sth African and NZedders living in Perth and they were guaranteed a decent audience.
Both bids were pretty much the same in terms of financial clout.
Wait a minute if there is so much support for soccer in Vic using your anti Storm argument why didnt they turn out in their thousands for the NSL teams. They didnt simple as that.Their NSL crowds were dwindling, and apart from world cups and European tournaments the NRL creamed them in the TV ratings.
The Storm support is dwindling only marginally at the gates, rugby league is increasing its TV viewing audience in tha state with SOO G/F etc.
Heaven help any NRL team to have a crowd reduction for the season ,its off to the Central coast you would be the response using the Stalin plan.
A new Tv contract will have a pre condition to ensure that NRL games(Storm) are shown at respectable hours.Guess what that brings in further sponsorship monied and opens the game to bigger audiences.
So its stands to reason Storm is essential in Melbourne and a vital cog in the NRL now and more so long term..

when the storm are playing at gosford they get doyble the gate . double the sponsorship and support and be shown in prime trime - the money news spends to prop them up then can go to country league - the best solution for all

Mate they couldnt crack more than 15,000 odd thousand for City Country.
Double the sponsorship ? doh the Storm are in the top 4 on sponsorship.
Why would News who own the Storm outright as a long term investment,if they pulled out give that money to the country rugby league, they do have shareholders to answer to. One happens to be an investment which News has faith in and no doubt in the long term sell it to a private investor, compared to giving money away albeit generous as it may be for the sake of being nice blokes. The business world doesnt operate that way.
If you dont know what the programme requirements of the next FTA TV contracts are, then you are unable to ascert that the Storm will not be on prime time in other states eg SA and WA and decent hours in Vic.Achieving this will add to the Storms sponsorship revenue and more so with a 16team 8 games weekend comp.
The best solution for all comrade :) is 18 teams with Gold Coast, Central Coast and Wellington.Just be bloody patient.

novices all of them with no idea about the game. my idea will work as would my world league comp plan - the fools think showing the game in china would attract millions but what was needed was a team based in china - say the beijing bulldogs.

you say the above won't happen but aircraft engine technology will ensure it does - engines with the capacity to take passengers from sydney to london in 1 1/2 hrs at 1/10th of the airfare price.

It will happen
